I love 'calm before the storm' moments like this reflecting on the long journey you've had with the characters. Many will likely die before the end and I don't know if I'm ready for that lol. Theon, too, I think.
Man, what if we deal with the Whitewalkers in one episode, lose like everyone but a few, and end up in a horrible Pyrrhic struggle against Cersei? I feel like Daenerys almost has to die for all she won't be willing to give up with her news from Jon. Or there will be some form of standoff between Daenerys and Jon and one of them is killed, forcing the other one to finish the race to the Iron Throne. That's what I love about this show. You can come up with an entirely simple explanation for what happens next, but more likely something will hit you completely out of left field.
I mean Jon doesn't even want to be king, I suspect he'd rather keep it all on the DL and do everything in his power to get back to the north than go on some crusade to rule the seven kingdoms. The last thing he wants is to go on some fucking war for power and titles and chairs. And if push comes to shove and word gets out about his heritage, they love each other anyway, they could just get married and they could rule together, or she could be de facto ruler while his marriage to her gives her legitimacy. Kinda seems to all work out. Assuming they, uh, survive, and there's a King's Landing left to rule.
I'm impressed with the amount of filler with so few episodes left.
The show would already be done if they only focused on the White Walker segments.
All in all, I really liked this episode. Arya's, shall we say, display of humanity and Brienne being knighted (I was on the verge of tears, by the way) were my personal highlights, but the overall subject was great. The one thing that's bothering me though is that, as I noted above, it's becoming more and more clear who the real heroes of this story are, and the writers have a knack to take all the potential conflicts between Danerys, Jon and company and either solve them hastly in a matter of a single scene or postpone them indefinitely. I know that we have fewer episodes this season and the characters are on a verge of a zombie apocalypse, but the way Jaime and Theon are simply brought back into the fold without much of a fuss and how Sansa and Daenerys just stop being at each other throats for the time being kinda left a sore taste in my mouth. As a side note, and I'm asking this to the fans of the books first and foremost: do we finally have a confirmation or something about Rhaegar Targaryan and Lyanna Stark relationship and, thus, if Jon was a child born of a rape or not? As far as I know, in the books the questions about if and how Rhaegar really loved Lyanna aside from the whole Prince That Was Promised prophecy and if Lyanna really was abducted and raped or actually loved Rhaegar back are still open, while in the show the two did marry in secret in Dorne at one point, so we must assume love was a factor (I hope) The final stages of character development, plus some actual important events, don't exactly strike mas filler
Maybe the last episode is after the Walkers have been defeated, Cersei's dead, and now everybody stabbing each-other in the back over past grievances?
Please yes
I think at this point it's p clear Azor Ahai is a thing, and it's not going to be jon either. For one to live the other must die, and jon frankly has already done that once, and it's frankly GoT as fuck to have him die again for no real reason, that's how GoT works, never mind that he's quite simply not king material in the way Daeny is. He can lead armies just fine, but he's about as useful as boar tits at peacetime with any kind of grey stakes. As for other survivors, I'd say Pod, Yara, Tyrion, Varis, Daeny, Sam (who becomes the Rook of Telling after Bran willingly gives himself to the night king, Arya and Sansa; although Sansa as the Hand of the Queen and Warden of Iron could also be a thing. Unless they completely Disney Princess The Night King, I don't really see how they have chance to hold the continent, the wights and walkers outnumber them (them being ALL the westerosi living) 6:1 at this point, and they still have to deal with Cersei after that. A thing of note is the Golden Company pledged to fight for the queen of westeros, not Cersei personally; if they need to an evac fleet, there we are. Basically to win they need to body the Night King in a way that hasn't been seen, and then literally nail Cersei down in a building and nuke her from orbit to win without taking monster casualties. Also speaking of manipulation, totally teared up at Brienne's knighting.
By the way, I really have to appreciate Daenerys sense of priority: Jon just revealed her they are kin, so their whole relationship has just taken a very, shall we say, uncomfortable turn, but hey, him staying the fuck away from the throne is the number one concern
Imagine being Gendry in that scene and having to be all like "damn, Arya, you fuckin' fine, all sexy with your body and horrific androgynous monster face. I would totally have sex with you."
Ah, the 4chan approach of deeming Emilia/Maisie/Sophie as borderline abominations. A quite transparent projection, if you ask me, because half those people will then go on INCEL tirades. Oh well, damn fine episode. And, between Avengers coming out and how the next episode is shaping out to be, I'm certain that, in a week, many beloved and iconic characters will be dead.
Many Starks may die this month.
This isn't filler. Filler is useless, ineffective padding of time: what we're seeing here is a wrapping up of character arcs and people saying their last words. Episode 1 and 2 are every bit "The Calm Before the Battle" style episodes, with this last episode feeling like the build-up to Helms Deep.
Have you ever been outside/seen what regular humans look like
I dunno, I'm liking the episodes fine, but there's just too much audience pandering with throwback lines in my opinion. That said, I think we're in good hands going forward, I'm just worried.
That's a terrible thing to say about another person, what the fuck is wrong with you
In their defense, Emilia's not a very good actress and the Sansa's storyline the past season or so has felt a little contrived at times.
How dare they. What monsters, to *checks hand* not act well in every single moment, or to *checks other hand* be given writing that they had no part in creating (!??). What horrible monster abominations.
Regardless of her past acting, Emilia's performance was suburb this episode, she nailed the reaction perfectly.
I just flat out find scenes with Dany and Sansa quite tiresome at this point. They're pretty predictable now and I'm not buying the rise to power of Sansa at all. It feels very 'unearned.' It doesn't help that I find the characters kind of smug and unlikable now, but I guess I'm supposed to in some ways. Unrelated to the topic at hand, but I really liked the scene with Jaime and the Bran 9000. In fact it's one of the few scenes with 3ER-Bran that I've enjoyed. I honestly felt the build up of the entire series when those two spoke, and Brans monotone, blank personality played off really well against Jaimes emotional vulnerability.
https://puu.sh/DiiTu.png Love this shot.
Was missing some action this episode.
I'm pretty sure this was the question (and answer) that GRRM used at a dinner with the show runners to see if they had knowledge of the material. It's legit.
The Hound will like to know your location...
Who thought it's a good idea to hide the non-combatants in the crypt anyway, and why did the show writers think that it would make for an interesting plot twist, it's so obvious what is going to happen
I really felt like a creep watching Arya get all horny. I don't know why I still feel like she's eleven years old. At least i know i ain't a pedo.
HBO actually tweeted she was 18 hours before the episode aired, lol
I think it's because she's so short. It makes her look younger.
Each Ghost sighting significantly bumps up an episode's score. Now here is hoping that they had enough budget to animate both scales AND furs for the next one.
