I have to agree it likely doesn't further the plot, I just can't handle the storyline they've built up like that just simply ending in a very unsatisfying manner I guess.
For anyone wondering, Ghost is still alive, he can be seen in the next ep preview. https://puu.sh/Dllbu.jpg
I can't wait to see how damaged Winterfell is after that blue dragon assault.
I'm actually mad, holy shit
Something interesting occurred to me watching this. Back in S2, Bran prophesized a blue ocean wave crashing over the battlements of Winterfell. At the time it seemed like he was predicting the Greyjoy siege (seafaring people, kraken sigil, etc.) but after this episode it's entirely possible that the wave was the "sea" of the dead overrunning winterfell, with the blueness being derived from their blue eyes.
Have to say, that was fucking amazing to watch.
It's Snoke all over again, really disappointed with his death so early, I bet they won't explain shit about the night king anymore.
The episode was really cool and tense, but I don't have a lot to say about anything else other than it was incredibly disappointing. It was the worst case, most predictable way for one of the most mysterious long-term plots to play out. They destroyed the mothership, and the droids fell.
I can't believe they wasted Bran like that. The fuck was he doing for the past 3 seasons besides being a dictionary? I thought for sure he'd pull some major mojo with the tree. They really wasted the talk of starks being buried with iron swords in the crypt to keep their souls at rest by doing the most obvious crypt gimmick. Why didn't anyone think to move the corpses out?

I knew right away that everybody were about to be mad about the way the Night King died but I've honestly always been more interested in the conflict for the Iron Throne which has been like 95% of the story. Knew it was going to happen when they introduced the "kill him, kill them all" mechanic in season 7 anyway.
The Alt Shift X guy seems to think that we'll see a new Nights King/Army of the dead rise up in the midst of the battle at Kings Landing, citing the possibility that the origins of the White Walkers is the tree that the Children of the Forest made the first Nights King on. I don't know, would be kind of weird to have it end and then come back like that.
Yea that ending was a bit weak but I still enjoyed the episode. There was some really fucking fantastic imagery all throughout this. Especially that battle in the clouds. Also props for that slight bit of foreshadowing on the first episode of this season, where Arya sneaks up on Jon at the godwood and he asks "How did you sneak up on me?". She's sneakin up on everyone lol.
The show never hyped them up more than what they were, people kept listening to YouTubers like AltShiftX who kept drawing on source from the books which was never brought up. I kinda figured it would end this way
I'm more pissed off that we'll never know the true intentions of the night king. Here the king went and smiled for the first time EVER and he got so close to Bran it felt like he was about to open his mouth, too, but alas. I know the heroes deduced for themselves that he's basically crusading against life as revenge for cursing him, but like.. If he's pure evil he shouldn't have so much hubris and take so goddamn long to slay Bran. His hesitation to raise his sword was as if he was savouring his victory.. It's just a real sour way to end the mystery with a bit of a hand wave and a teleporting ninja girl. RIP you smug prick.
Not really a spoiler but whatever You know, those dragons are big enough they could probably strap a huge saddlebag on that thing and have some skilled archer ride on the back and attempt to shoot the Nights King with a dragon glasss crossbow bolt, or kill the dragon with a Glass spear like the King did with the Ice spear... or something. Or strap some dragon glass spikes to the end of its tail and whip that bitch with it mid flight while the dragons were fighting. I mean, Dragon hauled all those people south after rescuing them up north. And they seem smart enough and trusting enough to let you do it... Just seems like those thing aren't being weaponized to their full potential to fight the dead. Not that it matters now. Basically a flying war elephant.
By far the biggest balls. It's now used as stock music, shows you how much EA cares about the franchise. For those mad about Arya, it's damn sight better than the ragged sruvivors end up on iron island waiting for the next go round of the cycle. Not entirely sure Sam is ok, a shit ton of that blood is his.
Agreed. I'm more surprised that people thought we would actually get an in-depth analysis into the motivations of the while walkers and the Night's King on the show. And, in my own opinion, I'm perfectly fine not knowing. The more you tell me about what the white walkers really are and what their real purpose is, the more you humanize them. I'd actually rather keep them as this nebulous force with their own unknowable logic. And as I've said here and elsewhere, I suspect that anything they would've done would have drawn criticism and disappointment. But unless they intended to just have the show end after this episode, the NK had to die to somebody. And with Arya there's enough clever hints dropped across the show that point to it.
I think I need to see an ophthalmologist because I couldn't see shit most of the time.
I liked the Skyrim reference where Arya went 100 sneak and took the 15x dagger modifier.
Also, as for people saying Bran didn't do anything: He's the one who gave Arya the dagger that she used to kill the NK in the first place. And we see her train against Brienne with it, using the exact same swap-hands trick. He urged on Theon, which inspired him to charge the NK in one last desperate attack. Dispatching Theon took up just a minute amount of the NK's time, which allowed Arya to make it to the Godswood and intercept them before Bran could be killed.
I am somewhat mad, but mostly hysterical over that ending
It's hard to think of how this episode could have ended, the way it played out was great (minus the invisible armour protecting half the character while they were literally covered in zombies). But I wish there was a little bit more to this fight's climax, a vision from Bran or some explanation. We might get that going forward but moba blinking Arya killing the night king did leave a sour taste in my mouth, as did Jon and Dany seemingly just fucking about. Seriously the entire trench fire thing is cool but the following shot literally shows Jon just sitting then on his dragon watching the trench light up.
So what was Bran doing with those ravens?
I really doubt Cersei is the final boss, there's too much set up for Dany being it. Jorah has been her moral compass since the pilot, now he is dead.
5/10 at least I character I like didn't receive a cop out death for once, too bad so many characters survived honestly, really lessens the impact when it's all side characters and mooks. Also that lyanna mormont moment was garbage, her getting bodied should've been the end of that scene. I'm not even going to touch a lot of this, for combat schlock and for non DRRM GoT it's pretty rad but for the non fantasy bullshit it isn't exactly great. I don't expect anything intelligent from D&D anyway so I guess might as well make it all a spectacle
so you're telling me that aryas footsteps make absolutely zero noise but a little bit of blood dripping off her is enough to alert a zombie across the room? idk what the obsession with making her the most fuckin powerful person in the game but fuck me. night king has been totally wasted imo.
Oh man, will Cersei do it as a final "fuck you" to everyone when she's close to being beaten? Night's Queen, coming up.
Its not that bran didn't do anything, but we didn't see him do anything that episode. Also, did Arya really use that dagger? Remember, she gave away her dagger to Sansa at the beginning of the battle when she told Sansa to hide in the crypts. Later, Arya fell down the stairs and lost her weapons, picked up a dragonstone glass dagger from the ground, and fought with that for the rest of the episode. That's how I saw it at least. Also, what was the point of us seeing Lyanna Mormont die in 1 scene, and in another turned to a wight, but not see anything else of her after? Unless its whole point was just to give the audience confirmation that she was dead or to further a sense of dread, it gave me a vibe that they were going to do something with it and never got around to it.
although I will say God I love Theon, Alfie Allen has to be one of the most talented actors on this show, or at least the one that tries his best in every scene
