Funnily enough they're actually just regular human beings, which - get this - is the cautionary lesson of the show this thread is about.

Well that was miserable and I honestly loved every minute of it, can't wait for the last episode.
Eh? My point wasn't that humans are stupid, it was that nuclear energy isn't terribly unforgiving compared to say, fracking. Most criticality accidents resulted from terrible decisions that violated basic safety protocols or directly ignored advice—they did not come strokes of bad luck or "tiny" mistakes. The lemmings joke is because one generally would not expect nuclear physicists to prod unstable nuclear cores with screwdrivers.
It came off as belittling when we're talking about a show that's trying to demonstrate how there's a shared responsibility in incidents like this. The engineers had no idea they could explode an RBMK reactor, which getting down to brass tacks is an immensely complicated machine that took humanity until very recently to master and therefore probably isn't as "retarded" as you think it is. If you think that's bad, the first nuclear reactor was crudely made out of stacked bricks of graphite and uranium on the University of Chicago's tennis court. Minor radiation accidents were halfway routine throughout the Manhattan project. The paradigms that governed the safe practices and use of nuclear energy arose with time. But the people in charge of the Fermi pile knew the risks, and they did it anyway because of the vicissitudes of the war effort. They weren't stupid, or lemmings.
I know it's aided by virtue of being a miniseries, but the level of quality across these five episodes is staggering. Actors, set design, prop design, costume design, storytelling...just top tier across the board.

Wow that was amazing, I can't wait until Season 2 /s
I legit wish there was just one more episode detailing the effort in building the containment facilities. Ah well, show still ended on a satisfying note for the narrative.
What a powerful and emotionally moving finale, stellar show from start to finish.
I found Legasov's tapes https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/57917/46dfb9d1-6d08-43a2-92f5-1725a15960db/image.png
"We're asking for permission to kill 3 men..." "Shiittt comrade, that's all you had to say!"
christ
The real photos and footage at the end got me good. I wasn't prepared for that.
"Hold up.... Y'all mothafuckas made Lava?!"

I mean, she'd feel happy to know that there is a Georgian man in episode 4.
I'm glad I didn't look up the whole of what happened before the show ended. I knew the trial had to be stretching things a bit, was fascinating to see how about half of it was made up for the purposes of narrative, but holy cow was that all satisfying. Getting to see the chain of events and the explosion was just a perfect cherry on top of this amazing series.
definitely felt like legasov's speech was written to be an allusion to climate change
That was a fantastic show. Great show. Easily in my top 10 ever. If not my top 5. It's among Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones for me. I think I'll rate it 3.6 for comedies sake.
"Not great, not terrible..."
more comparison pictures of the filming locations. Where do you live.
Presumably around Vilnius, Lithuania
Man what a series finale. Really happy that they put all of the real information at the end of the episode, that was a nice touch. Makes me sick to my stomach what they did to legasov at the end but he managed to get the last laugh in the end with those tapes and with his suicide. Really sucks this was only 5 episodes but man what a ride it was.

Really fucking great end to the series. I love how that last episode made go from thinking Dyatlov was a dickhead to completely hating him. I'm also sad that they didn't show any of the construction of the sarcophagus of the new safe confinement. It kind of left the final part of the cleanup in the air, especially if someone were to watch this who had no knowledge of the events of Chernobyl at all.
Kaunas, there were actually 3 filming locations, 2 of them were in the old town so i decided to get there with an electric scooter.
