The memes from this show are fantastic and I require about 500 more
You didn't see any memes because they're not there!
This show has been the best show for memes since The Terror last year.
10/10. Easily one of my favorite TV series I've watched today - I've always been super interested in the Chernobyl disaster.
I'm kind of disappointed they didn't show what was done post-accident, like building the temporary sarcophagus (the one before New Safe Confinement), to prevent radiation from leaking into the atmosphere temporarily until a better solution could be found.
They also didn't mention anomalies like the elephant's foot, or the fact that Chernobyl-1, -2 and -3 were still operating until '96, '91 and '00 respectively.
So how high does Chernobyl rank for you all as far as best shows HBO has done? I put up there with Sopranos, Deadwood, The Wire, and True Detective easily.
I could've understood them not being mentioned in the context of the series, but when you have the end-cap of still imagery, they really could've fitted in a handful more slides covering such.
I especially like how the final episode doesn't criticise nuclear power, but rather corrupt governments and mass disinformation.
While obviously you feel so terrible for what is done to Legasov in the end, this episode continues the trend the series has had of endearing you to Boris. When he started to cough more and more then coughed up blood and had his conversation with Legasov, before finally commenting on the caterpillar, fuck that shit will make you cry.
The real life stuff at the end though really made me cry because fuck that's hundreds of thousands who didn't deserve to have their lives fucked up. Honestly this is definitely one of the best things I've seen on HBO, and I'd say definitely my favorite docudrama series.
And I'm sitting here eagerly awaiting the final judgement the official propaganda will pass on this series. Final episode says a lot about Soviet Union and, along with it, about the pathetic worms that took over when it shat the bed. Just remember "Kursk".
Can HBO now take this steam and make a STALKER series ty
What can I say that hasn't already been said? What an ending. Would it have been cool to have another episode to see the Sarcophagus? Yeah, but at the same time, I think that the way it ended was pretty perfect. Seeing the change in Shcherbina was fantastic and Legasov's story leading back into what we saw at the start of the first episode was brilliant. It's been interesting to see how quick this show shot up in recognition and how universally praised its been. Everyone involved can be proud of what was produced with this show. It proves that an amazing story can be told with just a handful of episodes, and even though they could have easily made it a longer series, they chose to leave us wanting more.
Would have wanted to see the fuel being discovered, elephants foot and so on...
i want a roadside picnic show
There was a pilot for it not too long ago, but no one picked it up
I would have enjoyed it greatly even if it wasn't so well produced simply because the subject matter is incredibly interesting, the fact it's so well made just elevates it.
Definitely a great series and I would rate it highly, but imo its a different category to those multi season fiction shows so I wouldn't really try to compare it at all.
I think it ranks pretty highly, but I think Band of Brothers is still slightly better.
I'm just dying for them to finally start work on the "Masters of the Air" adaptation that they have been talking about for years. I really need more Hanks/Spielberg WWII stuff.
this is easily the best show i've ever watched. god fucking damn that last episode. when legasov told boris he was a good man? i felt that.
Just saw ep 5
I think this is now my second fav live action series ever, right after true detective.
When they mentionned that the radiation caused a rise in cancer particularely in children at the end, I seriously got hit. One teenager in my family contracted cancer, right after chernobyl happened actually (she was under the radiation cloud, no way to know if it's connected for sure though), she died after years of fighting it a decade ago, and no family deserves to go through this anywhere.
The way the show focused on the pain chernobyl caused in in real people, not just the big politics and the cold facts of the cause and effects of the explosion, is exceptionnal. I don't see how you could have told this story with more respect to the people who paid the price for the accident and the cleanup.
And keep the memes flowing, theyre the only way to prevent meltdown after exposure to this depression fuel.
There are other scientists like me. Any one of them could have done what I did. But you... Everything we asked for, everything we needed. Men, material, lunar rovers. Who else could have done these things? They heard me, but they listened to you. Of all the ministers and all the deputies - entire congregation of obedient fools - they mistakenly sent the one good man. For God's sake, Boris, you were the one who mattered most.
That scene was so good.
Oh my god, that was truly an end to such mini-series. Without a doubt on the top ten of best shows I ever seen.
The "epilogue" was hard as Loth said, even if I already knew about it.
Truly, no way to convey what effects goes covering your mistakes and deluding yourself from the truth better than this show ( and the real event ofc ).
I wonder if we will get a similar one about Fukushima one day, it would have less drama but for sure with all the shitstorm it was unveiled it could potentially be viable for another mini-series.
I have to say watching this made me reevaluate how I perceive Chernobyl and I hope something on this scale never, ever happens again. If it wasn't for the effort of some of these men, half of our blue ball could be an irradiated wasteland today.
They do a very good job of explaining the science behind the disaster without taking you out of the experience. I'd been reading the Wiki pages about the disaster all the way through, trying to wrap my head around what actually went wrong, but episode 5 really cleared everything up. Now I know how an RBMK reactor explodes.
Best thing I've watched all year, by far.
It doesn't an RBMK reactor CANNOT EXPLODE
Loved the show.
Also I find the Boris Meltdown one of my favorite parts.
