That roof scene was really stressful. It must have been really scary going up their knowing you only have so much time to be up their or you would die, but you also need to clear as much rubble as possible.
That was probably the most depressing episode of the show and that's saying something.
One of the Ironborn with Theon when he sacked Winterfell is the General with the Liquidators too.
Jesus, what a depressing/crazy episode that was.
Though i have to say my favorite scene of that entire episode was Boris going nuts on that phone, good lord
However that was my 2nd favorite, the first one had to have been that rooftop sequence, just pure tension and anxiety through those 90 seconds.
One of those clips of people on the roof was actually in the episode, I didn't realise it was real.
It's amazing how accurate the show is though, all the environments and outfits etc are bang on.
We know that amazingly 2 of the 3 divers are still alive, but what about the people who went on the roof? Was 90 seconds up there really "safe" ?
coolest thing about the show that it was filmed like 100km away from me.
I should watch the series someday
To mark the end of the clean-up operation atop reactor 3, the authorities ordered three men to attach a red flag to the summit of the chimney. A group of liquidators had already made two fruitless attempts by helicopter, so the three men had to climb the 78 metre chimney via a spiral staircase, despite the dangerous radiation levels.
Radiation expert Alexander Yourtchenko carried the pole, followed by Valéri Starodoumov with the flag, while lieutenant-colonel Alexander Sotnikov ascended with the radio. The whole operation was timed to last only 9 minutes given the high radiation levels. At then end, the trio were rewarded with a bottle of Pepsi and a day off.

Boris is runner up for the best meltdown of the series.
we need a new phone
To be honest I'm kinda surprised nobody here mentioned people mining in the nude.
I think that moment speaks for itself better than anyone else could.
Uhhh, did you check out the last page?
Also in their defense, they weren’t exactly nude.

Thread music. Warning, this is really sad but also beautiful. I heard it years ago:

yiiiiiiikes someone stripped it for parts at some point
Engineers could've torn it apart after to see how the radiation damaged the components. There's always something to learn and this would be a great time to learn about how radiation impacts hardware.
Occurred to me after posting that Soviet authorities were probably also keen on learning what was inside.

When that soldier on the roof got his foot stuck under the graphite and the geiger counter spiked
fucking hell.
then after getting free, he falls over, and the geiger counter spikes again
fucking hellllll.
"you're finished"

So I vaguely know what happens to people who have radiation poisoning. Before I get further in the show, how graphic does it get?
I want to know mainly because I have a weak stomach and idk if I want to watch more after dinner tonight.
It doesn't hold back and is very graphic.
It is graphic, but it does show some restraint. There was the guy they said no longer had a face but they never showed anything above his legs.
It's not pretty but they never go full tasteless gore tier that genuinely did happen.
Mazin said he wanted to tell the story, not shock and repulse people watching it.
the worst of the hospital scene was still hard to watch, fuck. especialy knowing how accurate to reality they tried to be based on the wife's testimony, and that was is a real couple. I knew radiation burns were bad. but seeing the body decay and necrose like that while they're still conscious is worst than any gore horror flicks somehow.
thank fuck nobody was exposed to ARS tier radiation in Fukushima, i'm reading only one cancer death from radiation has been confirmed.
Got finally to watch this, I had fears after seeing the trailer that it could be filled with stereotypes and misconceptions, but after seeing these threads on Twitter decided to give it a go.
Is the best thing I ever watched this year. I'm so glad they decided not to do accents, it gives more quality rather than failing into cliché.
At least they didn't show the body bloating up, thats why she was holding his shoes as they literally didn't fit him any more.
And ep 4: The puppy still being alive while being buried in concrete, and the guys had no bullets to put it out of its misery
Point was they did it tastefully and didn't overdo it. Well as tastefully as ARC can be shown.
It shows that even with the show, reality was much worse.
At what point do they show the puppy being buried alive in concrete? I just went back to check and I can't find it
They don't. They explain in the podcast that that scene was cut because it went too far.
