Is literally one of the shows with less propaganda out there, these are just delusional.
I have a good friend of mine who grew up and lived in the SU in Moscow. Being a single parent running off a teacher's salary in LA she doesn't have a much of disposable income for shit like HBO so since Chernobyl is so good I let her watch it under my account. She really enjoys it, but had to stop halfway through ep. 1 because it made her so upset.

Oh yeah for context she watched it with her 16 yo daughter for mother daughter bonding time, fucking Russians lmao.
She also mentions that Chernobyl had thrown so much Radiation in the air that it contaminated the weather, after the Soviets realized the gravity of the situation it was discovered that weather patterns threatened to bring irradiated precipitation to Moscow so the Soviet Airforce used cloud seeding to make it rain on Belarus instead. She is extraordinarily thankful for both the first responders and liquidators for giving their lives to contain the incident.
She also notes that Russia was largely covering the cost of cleanup and liquidator pensions but after the collapse of the SU Russia immediately abandoned the project because it was now "independent Ukraine's" problem.
Yeah this show is already hard to watch for most westerners at home, I cant totally see how people who have a closer connection to this era and regime have a real hard time watching it.
It's more gore and depressing that most horror shows, and real people went through all this, most of the anecdotes and small details are from real accounts.
All things considered they've been very respectful with the gore. When they do show it, they do so to get to the point of the damage of it, then they stop showing it.
Both the hospital scene and the dog scenes are very much like this. They show once, then they show restraint and let you imagine the worst.
It's very well done.

Gotta love how is starting to consolidate as a meme
A few days late but I just watched Episode 4. That episode was really harrowing.
I really liked Boris’s character, I instantly hated him because he didn’t give a shit about what he didn’t understand and once he grasped the situation and how it would affect him he changed completely.
Speaking of Boris he felt familiar and it took me till episode three to realize he was Bootstrap Bill

I mean, the Skarsgård family is in fucking everything so it doesn't surprise me. His 4 sons are also pretty accomplished actors. He also was the enemy sub commander in Hunt for the Red October.
I'm sure other European users can corroborate but my mom (in NE Italy) said in the ensuing weeks or months they'd either drive, convenience permitting, out of affected areas or bother people on vacation elsewhere to bring back legumes and milk after the government indicated which areas were affected by the fallout - although I'm sure some amount of hysteria was involved.

The Hunt for Red October, BAY BEE!
105%, not good; not terrible.
When I heard about the show I was like haha stalker memes then I saw the first episode and was like jesus christ this is stalker as shit.
They did a great jobmaking the reactor really terrifying, not just that it was spooky but it felt like it was actually evil, no doubt the music helped a lot.
For example... Anyone remember Bill Skarsgård? The actor that plays Pennywise?
Legasov's actor, Jared Harris, was the son of Richard Harris... Albus Dumbledore
And the guy who Plays Fomin, Adrian Rawlins, also played Harry Potter's dad
The score for this show is fantastic. If you can, take the time to listen to it on Spotify in its entirety so you can really hear what went into the music. It supports the show so well, but obviously when you're watching it you don't notice the little details in the music itself.
Fun fact: I used the song Evacuation (I think basically the main theme for the show, it seems to be used the most) to sell a speaker to a customer at work yesterday.
This why I actually liked Boris a bit more than the character Legasov; Valery doesn't seem to have had a character arc in to the same extent. He's described as a "party man" in the podcast but the series hasn't really showed him toeing the party line initially as one might've expected? I guess it could just be that the script had to be written like that for it to make sense? The brilliant character interplay would've been lost if both Boris and Valery had the same mindset.
This show is so good. It's so eerie.
I especially liked the soldiers working with the kid. Also, the 90 seconds on the roof with the geigercounters going crazy was pretty intense.
The scene in the basement at the end of EP2 with the Geiger counters going crazy and the flashlights dying one by one is so eerie.

Time to get liquidated
This was something that actually happened apparently, and I thought it was just the artistic license. They apparently used the pipes to feel there way to there destination.
Man, I hope when this is over they throw an in-depth "The Making Of" on Youtube or even the Blu-Ray release because the production values and authenticity continues to astound me.
Oh man I was hoping we would get to see the events leading to the explosion. When I first watched I was a bit disappointed that it started immediately after the explosion and we didn't get to see it unfold. Doing it during the investigation is a good idea that works really good for this show. I'm pumped.
How front and center is the nasty stuff? I'm an absolute wuss when it comes to body horror, but I've heard nothing but spectacular things about this show. Is it worth it?
It can be hard to watch but IMO they're never overly gratuitous. For reasons of taste, they don't show the worst of the worst. Most of the injuries that are depicted are very 'full body burn victim' in nature. Take from that what you will. It's not a walk in the park but it's not trying to be Saw or anything either.
I find this funny coming from someone who has a horror set as their profile background.
