Well, today's the day. After years of delaying, I'm finally watching S1E1.
First impressions: Sean Bean's character is awesome, I'm going to get as invested as possible in him and can't wait to see how he changes over the full 8 seasons
Yea enjoy those sex scenes every 15 minutes for that first episode. That'll totally keep happening in the later seasons, for sure.
Main thing I'm looking forward to is the cute wedding scene where everyone dresses in red or something? Sounds adorable
If you watch the series at x 100 you won't be disappointed when you reach the end.
Brienne's actress is such a sweet cinnamon roll

Does it get better once they're done establishing the world and stuff? I'm 4 episodes in and it's mostly just people walking around talking about things
You're watching the peak of the show. People walking around and talking about things is pretty much the early show - and you have no idea how much you'll miss it when logic goes out the window.
Season 1 is basically something of an extend prologue that does a lot of essential world building. The good stuff starts around Season 1's ending (leading into Season 2), but it relies on you having picked up on/paid attention to various character backstories, character arcs being set up, etc for it all to be impactful.
Savor every second of it. It doesn't take long for things to go absolutely sideways in season 1, and from then on it's just a nonstop roller-coaster of war, intrigue, and suspense, at least until season 5 or so and then everything gets a bit shaky. Seasons 7 and 8 disappear into a black hole of stupidity.
I gotta say though, I really like S08xE02. It really felt like old GoT, and had one of the only characters to really "finish" her arc in an agreeable way, with (S08 Spoiler)Brienne becoming knighted.
Podrick, Jorah, Theon, Tormund, Beric, Melisandre and Brienne (mostly) had their arcs resolved quite nicely, and true to their characters. Too bad about...well, everyone else, including the protagonists.
Yeah just wait 6 seasons and they stop doing it so much ;)
Seeing that motley crew just sit around a hearth and talk was one of the best moments in season 8 for me. And it was genuinely written very well.
"I wonder why the first two episodes of this season made everyone optimistic about the writing..."
"Oh wait, they weren't written by D&D......."
I think in season 1 it wasn't until episode 7-8 that things started picking up and I got really hooked. From there season 2-3-4 are unabated awesome.
The books end with Dany shitting herself in a field just before Jon's final chapter
I'm curious now.
Some days ago I was thinking about small and costless, shall we say, tweaks to the more contentious plot points of the final season.
Regarding Daenery's death scene in the Iron Throne room, I thought of having Daenerys behave far more hostile towards Jon the more he started to voice his objections more clearly. This would had culminated in an heartbroken Daenerys declaring Jon an enemy and prepare to command Drogon to burn him here and there, but she'd had been killed mid-sentence ("Drac-") by Jon. As she died in his arms, she'd had realized what she had become, started crying and begged for forgiveness from him and everyone else (especially Missandrey, Jorah and Barristan, among others).
Do you think this may had worked better or am I missing the plot point that Daenerys really completely lost herself in her delusion at the end and she could had never come back, even with her last breath?
I think either direction would work; Emilia herself said she was trying to portray Daenerys in that moment as almost having reverted to a strange kind of childlike innocence, maybe as a means to mentally cope with what she just did. Biggest thing though is that whether they went the way they did in the show or an alternate direction like yours, the actual problem is that they just couldn't be bothered to lay the groundwork for her going insane so neither way feels earned. I've seen this sentiment shared all over and I've said it myself, but despite being the second most important character on the show and one of my favorite characters, Daenerys getting killed made me feel nothing. Not mad, not sad, just nothing; she might as well have been a different character entirely. And then the show swept her death under the rug in about 3 minutes, completely unceremoniously. Jorah, Theon, The Hound, Jamie, Cersei, even Euron...every single one of them got a better, more satisfying final scene than Daenerys.
It's staggering how badly they fucked that up.
I think that if they even just made her go straight from burning the ballistas and battlements to then just burning the city, kind of snowballing violence, it would have looked better. Then just have the bells toll while she's strafing, and the guys on the ground can remain in shock.
The whole thing could be done with editing.
I can't help but feel they could have fixed 2 retarded moments by instead of having teleporting aimbot Euron kill a dragon like that, have the dragon die during the attack on the city and have THAT be the reason Dany goes over the edge, instead of, you know, randomly slaughtering everyone only once it was all over. Fuck it could still be Euron if it had to be (although the fact it was him was entirely inconsequential anyway).

Words fail me.
[WARNING, SPOILERS FROM THE FINAL EPISODE OF THE SERIES]
There's an awful lot of scenes that could be improved either with better editing or adding in just a handful of lines. Fixing the biggest problems with the season would require half of it to be reshot which certainly isn't happening, but it would be nice if they re-edited certain sequences and/or inserted some scenes that may have been left on the cutting room floor for the upcoming Blu-Ray release.
just wanted to remind you that this exists

Would've been more appropriate if it was Ghidorah.
I will be looking forward to the inevitable fan edits that will probably redo the last 2 seasons.
My cousin started game of thrones and sent this:
