ASOIAF/Game of Thrones Discussion V3: A Song Of Ice Cubes and Fire

My highly scientific Instagram story poll asked "Whose ending was worse?", and it was 52-48 (GoT vs Lost).
why would you want someone to lose their jobs over this
I'll grant it's a bit vindictive, but I'll explain. The prevailing theory for why Season 7 & 8 turned out the way it did (namely, the excessive rushing of the plot, simplification of characters, and emphasis on spectacle over substance) is because the showrunners were just done. I can absolutely sympathize with them if they were feeling burned out or simply wanted to move on; after working on the same show for a decade that's understandable. It is not understandable, or professional in any respect to rush through the remaining material just to get it over with. It's a disservice not only to the fans, but to the cast and crew that poured their hearts into this thing. If they wanted to move on, they should have made the decision to hand off the show to someone like Bryan Cogman or anyone else that clearly understood the material and the characters and wasn't suffering from that burnout.
So we have a show with a legacy that is heavily damaged at best, outright destroyed at worst depending on your perspective...so they just move on? If it pans out that the above is indeed exactly what happened, then I feel they shouldn't be trusted with a property like Star Wars if they were willing to throw Game of Thrones under the bus.

too bad this literally meant nothing...
Especially considering that Sansa was in King's Landing for the entirety of the Northern rebellion. Has she even ever met Edmure before? What cause does she have to treat him poorly?
The white walkers meant literally nothing...
Are Hollywood movies a charity cause or something? Explains a lot if they really just keep hacks around, because we wouldn’t want them to lose their jobs™️
I mean dude, these people aren’t exactly flipping burgers down at the joint. They’d be fine even they had nothing else lined up. And perhaps it’d be a nice time to bring in some new blood to write?
You do a bad enough job then you lose your job.
They got rich, and are doing a suboptimal job contrary to what they sell themselves at, while enforcing a hostile attitude towards any critique.
Primadonnas aren't good.
I'm beginning to question why the later seasons couldn't get more episodes. I'm pretty sure that HBO wouldn't had objected, especially since more episodes means more money for the company. I'm told that the showrunners themselves assured everyone that number of episode was going to be enough somewhat, but I can't find proof of that.
I'm asking because, while some plot elements don't feature even the slightest amount of sense no matter from which angle you decide to look at them, I kinda appreciated some of them, but I thought they needed far more screen time and more development in order to be actually good
Also can we take a moment to talk about how embarrassing the meeting was?
Like seriously, ignoring the awkward jump in time, where we don't see Jon being apprehended or, you know, anyone's reaction to Daenerys being killed, what have these people been doing for these weeks? Apparently none of them had considered the fact that they would need a new king, and none of them had even thought over what claims they would like to make, until Tyrion brings it up... and speaking of Tyrion, what was he there for exactly? Grey worm tells him not to speak, but he didn't seem to be there to be executed either? Like were they planning on talking to him? What did they wanna ask him or tell him, since all of them were assembled? Why didn't they also invite Jon?
Then they quickly decide to take a vote on the basis of... stories? Wow, Bran the Broken was pushed down from a high tower, so he should be king. Convincing stuff. How about "Arya killed the Night King" or "Jon Snow literally rose from the dead, killed Daenerys and is also the - lineage-wise - most suitable candidate"? They also didn't establish any voting rules (Sam Tarly is for some reason allowed a vote, and I'm doubtful Brienne really should've had one either), no one convenes with their advisers or their people - like, these people have been sitting around doing fuckall for weeks, and now very suddenly they definitely need a king pronto. No time to think or discuss. Also Sansa you can keep the North. No one will even question it, or ask for anything for themselves. Yeah, I'm sure they'll appreciate that back home.
Also Grey Worm might be the worst character ever written.
Also also: Bronn actually getting high garden and the reach was... you know, fucking retarded. How did Tyrion explain that to the others? "Yeah, he threatened me, so are you guys cool with giving all this shit away to him, even though he very obviously has no allegiance?" Also, since Bran is such a wise king, let's put fucking Bronn on the council. Yeah. That's a great idea. Good job.
Like this is just unfathomably bad.
Why should they keep them?
Cuz it's just a bad tv show. Who cares if they produce shit, it's not like anybody's losing anything important.
You might be being sarcastic and I'm whooshing here, but the cast, crew, and fans who poured their money, time, heart and soul into it may beg to differ.
They made millions on Game Of Thrones, I don’t feel bad about them losing opportunities for doing their job poorly. They could live a good life without anymore jobs.
That's kinda fair, i was wrong in saying nobody lost anything important, but i still think it's still over dramatic to want D&D to lose their jobs over a shitty, but mostly harmless tv show.
Kind of baffled that Twin Peaks, a series that was revived almost 30 years after it ended with no real end point possible and no goal ahead of itself, got a better ending than Game of Thrones, something which had a clear end goal.
You're missing a critical point: Sam told us that those assembled represented all the great houses of Westeros.
Y'know? Tarly, That Guy, Tully, Stark, Stark, Stark, Tarth, Seaworth, Baratheon, Another Guy, Greyjoy, A Dornish Guy, Arryn, Royce, and Guy #3.
I think the fact it managed to sledgehammer me in the intestines and leave me literally emotionally reeling for days (and not because of the quality of production like GOT) makes it an incredible ending. Lynch has always been an emotive director first and foremost and TP3 is IMO
the opus of that.
It's worth mentioning that, as much as I like Gendry, his legitimacy as a member of Hourse Baratheon and nobility title was given to him by someone who, for all intents and purposes, was a mad, bloodthirsty usurper and now also dead, so him attending in place of the lord of the Stormlands is questionable, to say the least.
Seriously guys, let's just drop the whole summit subject altogether. It's the recipe for madness.
Twin Peaks season 3 has one of the greatest endings of all time.
I am currently watching Twin Peaks Season 2 for the first time so can we please stick to ASOIAF and avoid potential TP spoilers. Thank you
Looks like a fan over on /r/Freefolk has created a support page for Emilia Clarke's charity, as well as providing links to other charities supported/created by the actors. Nice way to bring some positivity out of the collective fan disappointment. Anyone here familiar with JustGiving and if they're a reputable charity site?
I could see most of them upholding Dany's decree since Gendry did help in the long night and he's the only known Baratheon heir left.

And then the toxic butterflies get them.
Yeah yeah, this finale was garbage and that's terrible
but can we talk about how fucking shit the lighting was in this goddamn show from day 1? 90% of the time I found myself squinting at the TV. I can't see shit, captain.
I watched them all at night in a dark room.. Even the final NK battle wasn't too poorly lit.
Also can anyone tell me exactly when they ran out of book material? I am compelled to re-watch the series up to that point as a sort of fond farewell.. Eyebleach out this debacle of a final season.
Season 5-ish? The books end with Dany in Meereen, Tyrion on the way to find Dany, Jon dead, and Ramsay in Winterfell.
