okay so if you have a stand can you still learn hamon, and if you have hamon does that limit to what stand you'll get?
okay so if you have a stand can you still learn hamon, and if you have hamon does that limit to what stand you'll get?
The first question is probably explained by Joseph, who has a stand and can continue to use hamon at the same time. As for the second, there's nothing established within the manga- it is said, however, that "Mastering The Ripple (or Rotation) is a way to develop a stand."
My personal theory is, if you train in hamon enough, it evolves into something similar to or exactly like Hermit Purple, due to the techniques you need to learn shaping your subconscious to think a certain way (thus why Jonathan and Joseph have similar stands and Tonpetty, a hamon master, had psychiclike powers not unlike HP). However, if you're in the process of learning hamon and you get struck with the arrow, there's no telling what you'll develop- you're probably going to have some overlap, though, depending on what techniques have affected your mind.
Finally finished Part 1 of the anime! It was pretty great and it was fun to see it animated. Part 1 still isn't my favorite by a long shot but I do quite enjoy the characters and situation.
There's one quirk of the anime that annoys me, I do like that they closely follow the manga but sometimes they follow the text too closely. Because it's animated I can see the action and you don't need to spell it out:
(Dio's right eye is hurt, Jonathan goes to punch him)
SPEEDWAGON: By Jove! Jonathan's swinging in to attack Dio in his blind spot! What a cracking strategy by Mr. Joestar against that demon!
DIO (V.O.): I can't believe it! JoJo's attacking from my blind spot! That damnable Joestar - how dare he threaten my invincible reign of power?!
JONATHAN (V.O.): Dio, you villain! By following up on your eye injury, I'm able to attack in his blind spot! I must strike for victory and justice!
I know the dialogue and characterization is from the manga (and it's part of the series' charm) but the lack of 'show don't tell' sometimes rubbed me the wrong way.
Part 2 is pretty fun so far (two episodes in), it's still one of my favorite parts so it's really fun to see Joseph's shenanigans animated. Really looking forward to [sp]Tequila Joseph[/sp] next episode.

That's a high quality Polnareff, what do you think about these ones?

Anime Polnareff's design was quiet the improvement over the OVA one.
Jesus that nose is big.

Everyone's nose is gigantic in the 2000 OVA.
I-its a good thing the upcoming dub will do it justice....r-right?

At least they still got Brit Dio
Personally, I don't like the dub either, but it's good enough to get people into Jojo, and that's good enough for me.
Does the dub have Takehito Koyasu?
No?

I like Richard Epcar as Joseph (and Seitz as Dio) but most of the others feel pretty dry. Also I do wish that Polnareff had an accent.

It sounds so weird the way they pronounce "Jotaro." Can we petition to call this the "My Neighbor Jotoro" dub?

People pronouncing it "Joe-tarot" is just as jarring honestly
There's a couple things I've been wondering about part 3.
Like, is it supposed to be "Avdol" or "Abdul"? When I was reading it, it switched back and forth, but was Avdol at least 75% of the time, but Abdul would be a way more common real-world name.
Also I don't remember if this ever got addressed but like... Is it ever really explained why non stand users are able to see certain stands, like Strength and Wheel of Fortune? Were those just kinda sloppily written parts or is there actually some logic to it?

Some stands are/can be bound to physical objects, which normies can see. That's why when strength/wheel of fortune was defeated they turned back into regular vehicles.
Most of the stands that non-stand users can see always somewhat possess real-life things unlike Star Platinum and other ghost like stands that are just pure manifestation of someone's fighting spirit. That's why the average person can see it.
Aka Yukako's hair, Anubis Sword, Strenght's Ship, Wheel of Fortune's Car and Hazamada's surface.

The reason is probably that calling him "Abdul" is a direct reference to Paula Abdul, while calling him Avdol is a result of the Japanese pronunciation of previously mentioned reference, "Aboduru" leading to a sort of hybrid of the reference and Araki's original name for the character. He is officially "Muhammad Avdol". Interestingly, Kakyoin's original name was Tenmei. The reading of his name as Noriaki was a mistake. He's sometimes referred to as Tenmei in the manga and in some post-Part 3 sources, like Jojonium.

part of it is due to the wacky fact that the Japanese language doesn't have certain sounds, so some are borrowed and replaced, leading to translation and pronunciation goofs. Avdol is his 'official' name, but Abdul is, as far as Japanese pronunciation olympics go, essentially the same name
So I watched the latest JoJo episode. It turns out I'm the exact height and weight as Yoshikage Kira? How peculiar.
How's that quiet life going for ya?
If it weren't for those meddling kids.
Hi I also have Kira's height and weight.
Kira's weight is bloody bullshit though.
With his muscle mass he should be going near or over 80kg which was what I had when I worked out in high school

The Japanese L/R thing messes with me, too.
Was the knight named Blueford or Bruford? Is the younger D'Arby named Terrence or Telence? Is Bruno's last name Bucciarati or Buccellati? Heck, Will Zeppeli writes his name as "Wirr" in the letter to Dire.
(these are rhetorical questions)
With all this talk about height, I found out that I'm the same height as Okuyasu
