Is it ok if I skip Part 5 and read Part 6 and onwards until Part 5's updated translation is finished?
Is there anything in Part 5 that I need to know to enjoy 6, 7 and 8?

There's a resolution for a returning character and the events are veeeerly slightly referenced in 6. You can probably do it, but I do suggest you return when you can.
I thought he couldn't use it on himself?
if i recall[sp]in one of the rohan one-shots he uses it on himself and says that he never tried using it like that before or something[/sp]
eh if all characters in jojo used their abilities to their fullest potential most fights probably wouldnt be very exciting

What's with Part 5 translation anyway? Why is it the only part without proper finished translation? (or at least that's how it seems like, from this thread)

the translation's been underway for a long while now, it started around the same time part 4's good translation was finishing up
the western jojo fanbase just wasn't very big before the anime so back then people just had to make do with duwang and the other bad translations
What's wrong with Part 5? Is a translation that hard to find? I have the whole thing translated in my computer from long ago. :s:

They're probably the poor scanlations.
At the moment JJCA seems to be the only good one doing English translations with 20-30 chapters left, other languages seem to be fine from what I've heard.

What are scanlations? If I remember right, the one I got is translated just fine.

scans + translation, meaning scans of the manga that have the text edited to be english instead of japanese using a translation
it's probably the bad translation that existed before JJCA, completely misinterpreting a lot of lines and lacking personality for the characters

I can't speak for the misinterpreting nor lack of personality, but this translation and quality seems fine to me.

And it's all of Vento as well.
I just realized Rohan is a fucking idiot:
When [sp]he is affected by Bites za Dusto, he could have just taken out Heaven's door and wrote "not affected by Bites the Dust" making it dissapear and "I am completely healed" so that he doesn't die.[/sp]
[sp] I don't think that would work because Hayato is not the Stand User of Killer Queen/Bites the Dust, he doesn't command it to kill other people so how should he be able to stop it from killing other people? And he can't write stuff on himself just like Josuke can't heal himself with Crazy Diamond, otherwise he would just write "I am invincible".
I think most people don't understand the logic behind some Stands. Heavens door can only control the person who is being written on, not stuff that happens to the person itself. Also it has to be something the person itself is able to, like not hurting Rohan but not "can't be Heavens Doored by Rohan". You also can't write "doesn't follow the laws of gravity" on a pig and it suddenly flies away. Because it is not part of the abilities/skills that the pig has.[/sp]

this looks like the JJCA translation to me, but they've only gone up to volume 11, so if you have the rest of it as well then it's probable that it switches to the old translation after that

Ah, alright. Gotcha. That would explain the confusion.
I don't think I ever really paid attention to it switching in quality.

it's not that noticable, it's not hilariously bad like the infamous Duwang translation for DiU
i read the whole thing with the bad translation just fine, but the characters really do lose a lot of their unique personality when they all speak the same "normal" way, plus it can be somewhat confusing when some characters say things that dont really make much sense
[t]http://i.imgur.com/INttsmL.png[/t]
also note how the old translation awkwardly cuts the first sentence in half between "outside" and "world" while the JJCA translation cuts it at a more natural point

It's not that I don't want to read Part 5, in fact I've been enjoying this series I found on youtube:

It's just that I don't want to read it any further if it means a poor experience.

I wonder if anime adaption is going be completed before JJCA translation then.

probably not, JJCA is 11 volumes in and VA has 17 volumes, and considering there'll be a break between the part 4 and 5 animes and even then it'd take at least half a year to catch up to where the JJCA translation currently is

Actually, JJCA is halfway through Volume 13 out of 17, so it's further along than you think.

i only saw it being up to volume 11 on their website, maybe they forgot to update it or something then

Probably, they upload the newest translations on their facebook page before uploading them on their site. I think the Mega only has finished volumes up, while they upload per chapter through their facebook. They're like halfway through the Oasis/Green Day arc now.
Can't believe next week is the last episode already :(
I still remember during the first few episodes stuff like BTD and that felt like a eternity
What/where is the best way to watch JoJo (preferably dubbed because I'm trash)? I've always wanted to try it out, always seemed interesting unlike most other anime.

crunchyroll is your best legal way, no dubs but you shouldnt watch it with the dub anyway
The dub is infamous
The dub is infamous
is it? what i've heard of it is that it's the usual dub quality of just being mediocre
Watching the dub and missing out on the engrish should be illegal

damn, that episode might've had the best animation in jojo so far, really strong, expressive animation in some moments of the second half
the [sp]phone[/sp] part :scream:
