Where would you guys recommend i start reading the manga, can you actually order english translated books or is it fan translations still mostly.
Also out of the next 4 arcs to go what are peoples favourites, from what ive seen im looking forward to stone ocean and steel ball run

SBR is generally considered the best part, in my opinion it's tied with DiU
the official translations only go up to some ways through part 3 so far, so anything beyond that is strictly fan translations
not that that's a bad thing, they're all pretty high quality now (except the end of part 5 but that's being fixed) and dont suffer from a lot of issues that official translations would have, such as stand names

JJCA has the best translation and is almost done, by the time you catch up to where they are at, they'll be done

Honestly I'm excited to see Part 5 animated and translated properly, 6's ending, 7 for obvious reasons, and 8's not done so. If I had to only pick of the 3-4 remaining parts, it'd be 7. It's the peak of Jojo.
So I'm reading SBR right now, and I'm wondering... when does it get good? or at least, really good?
I mean, I'm enjoying it just as I've enjoyed every JJBA part I've read but SBR has such a stellar reputation that it so far hasn't been living up to. Seems like everyone on here, /r/stardustcrusaders, and /a/ say it's the best one. On MyAnimeList it's ranked as the #4 best manga of all time (Part 4, at #36, is the only other JoJo part in the top 100).
I've still got a great deal to go (I just got to the part with the waffle-haired guy with the invisible-left balls) but a lot of the main things have been established and although the art is real nice I'm still not finding it all that impressive.
I don't know if it's a classic case of something being overhyped but I remember being enthralled with Part 3 despite the great reputation it has. Does it just pick up more as it goes or is Part 7 just not for me?

I didn't really start loving it until the last few volumes

Nothing truly mind blowing happens immediately, it takes its sweet time establishing an extremely likable and interesting main cast and setting for a while before it decides to start ramping up. What chapter are you on?

I wasn't feeling to hot with SBR at first (Was still enjoying it) but I would say when[sp]D4C starts to come into play[/sp]is when it gets a lot more interesting.
Though overall, I would still rank SBR as my third favorite part. (Behind 4 and 2)

The pacing is noticeably different (thanks to the switch to longer monthly issues) and I do like that it takes its time fleshing out the characters' backstories and personalities. Gyro and Johnny make a good duo but I feel like Johnny doesn't have that much depth to his character compared to the backstory-heavy Gyro.

Still not on board after[sp]Catch the Rainbow[/sp]and[sp]The True Man's World[/sp]? It's going to start getting really serious in the coming chapters. But I dunno, everybody's different and not everyone likes things the same way.

I mean, it was good but I found it no more impressive than things from 4 or 6 or whatever. [sp]Ringo Roadagain[/sp] was a really cool character/fight.
I guess the problem isn't that I dislike it, it's just that I don't find it to be markedly better than the other ones despite its reputation. I dunno.
I do quite enjoy the horse-racing stuff because I'm a big fan of racing fiction.
part 8 is shaping up to be one of my favorite parts as is in its current state.

Does sound like your classic too-big-to-fail scenario. Try tempering your expectations and maybe you'll enjoy it more. On the flipside, 6 is among my least favorite parts because it has (opinions) the least interesting crew with the least interaction, some good stand fights and then some really truly boring or even lame stand battles, though it's mostly saved by the explosively good ending. 7 represents such a marked increase in art quality and despite being weirdos fighting weirdos every other chapter with ghosts, there's something about it that just feels so much fresher and interesting
I think focusing on two main characters allows them to be much stronger individually and easier to write than trying to make every member of the good guys equally interesting. Araki naturally gravitates to his favorite characters and has a tendency to neglect others if you ask me. That's on display in like every part before 7.

imagine being in that audience. Pay for a ticket only to watch an empty ring for nine minutes.
I don't know why this is bothering me but part 3 spoilers [sp]I wonder if anyone back in japan wondered what happened to that transfer student, kakyoin and then jotaro had to tell his teachers that an immortal vampire punched a hole in him[/sp]

boy better snip that, not everybody has read the manga yet
One thing I'm pretty hyped to see in the anime in case they do part 6 is how they'll handle [sp]Made in Heaven, that entire final fight was really trippy and it'd be rad to see in motion[/sp]

ah no big deal. <3
Did some research and I decided to read Dead Man's Questions first after watching the anime series (parts 1 to 4).
It's pretty good, I recommend it for anyone like me who's coming from watching the anime. I'll be reading part 5 and onwards now.
