here's some real shit
So there was an interview with Araki recently, between him and a fan on some show, which hasn't been subtitled yet, but one specific, and sort of interesting part which has been translated and spread around a few times is this bit, where Araki is voicing his views on the upcoming movie:

"When they announced the live action movie, I wondered how they were going to bring out stands, or, those actors would be able to give the atmosphere that Jojo created.
I'm very aware the fact that I'm the creator, but, I'm also I'm a fan of this crazy world. Of course I'm worried about that. And worrying is part of the excitement.
However, I have to say this, I was surprised by how the actors are VERY close to the original characters. Like, I probably should use Kento Yamazaki as a reference when I'm drawing. Why not?"
A little spooky when Araki himself is worrying about the outcome of the movie. At least we know that if it's a travesty he'll likely take it upon himself to condemn it to eternal damnation just like with the Phantom Blood movie.

of course he's worried, it's a live action adaptation of a manga, every manga author would be, and for something as stylistic as jojo especially
that's not at all indicative of the movie's quality
I need to show someone jojo to try and win them over. I think showing them one of the fights but I'm trying to figure out what doesn't spoil too much and still is a good fight. Any ideas?

Showing someone Joseph's grenade trick is always a good way to get people interested.

Just watch episode 1, season 1. If he/she isn't hooked, then I would suggest what Bokito said or the later part of the fight where Joseph uses the glasses trick. Or if you don't want spoil Joseph's crazy tricks I would say the Jack the Ripper arrival and fight.
I dunno, right now it's next to impossible for me to get my entourage interested in Jojo because they're all hooked on Naruto.
I truly was born in the wrong place. :hammered:
that sounds fucking hellish
The Naruto manga isn't that bad tbh, the anime on the other hand....
believe it joestar san
The Naruto manga isn't that bad tbh, the anime on the other hand....
Oh the animes far worse due to the YEARS of filler, but if you gave me some time i'm sure i could write you a 12 page essay on where and Naruto lost its way and took a turn for the shitheap.
As for getting people to watch jojo, idk mine just involved a lot of pestering. Being around a few friends that are pretty into has gotten my girlfriend interested too so thats nice.
I have some friends who won't even give it a chance because of the "anime is weeb shit" mentality, yet they say that Hokuto No Ken and Dragonball are good because of the nostalgia, even if Jojo's as old as those series.
Seriously i find it really unfair that everything Japan makes is considered weaboo garbage, expecially if something's so different like Jojo.
The fact that people seem not to acknowledge that the manga's very old compared to the anime makes it worse, they think it's just a trend like Yuri On Ice or Himouto Umaru Chan.
So I guess playing ASB requires years of doing nothing but playing fighting games? Because this is fucking impossible and the game doesn't even give you a tutorial
Doesn't help that the analog stick is super sensitive and attacks that require it can only be done through sheer luck because the inputs are all fucked up, I can only mash buttons

ASB is actually a pretty shitty fighting game that can be won entirely by spamming square, however it's more fun to try and do fancy shit. That's not to say it's not amazing as a Jojogame though, the artstyle is top notch and just seeing your favorite characters beat eachother up in nearly 1:1 recreations of scenes that you know is delicious. The gameplay though, is nothing to write home about.

Not sure about the inputs since I have a fighting stick rather than needing to use a controller and can pull off inputs just fine (fighting sticks have an octagonal "well" for the control stick that allows it to 'snap' to the Cardinal directions/Diagonals in a more tactile way), but I've never been able to pull off any considerable combo in say SFIV, while in ASB it is definitely easier to land them. Arcade/Fight sticks aren't exactly inexpensive but if you can pick up a cheap one then it'll be much easier to play ASB. iirc you can just mash light punch(?) and the game will autocombo for you anyway, and there's a button that automatically triggers the GHA attacks for you, so you can land one hit and then trigger it for basically an easy win.
If we're talking about fighting games in general, then yeah it's kind of like learning to play a shooter or an RTS if you've never played one before, it's its own distinct genre. ASB definitely isn't as complex or has as high a skill ceiling as SF though. Can't remember if the game gives you a decently accessible movelist so here's all the character moves if you want it on another screen as you play; https://imgur.com/a/l2R11/all
Best thing to do is load up training mode and just start practising move strings (series of attacks that link up, or combos, which are of course different for every character.)
I wrote all this because I enjoyed ASB a lot and I want others to enjoy it as well! Definitely worth getting into fighting games in general.

edit: ignore everything about multiplayer and getting into a fighting game early in its life in this video, not relevant
maybe this video would be better, more about the fundamentals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nd9sEB6ku14

Use the d-pad, not the analogue stick.
Use the d-pad, not the analogue stick.
How does that work for diagonal moves?
How does that work for diagonal moves?
You press two directions (e.g. up+left) so you get a diagonal input in the game. It's pretty easy after you get used to it.

Yeah, I try to get my friends into JoJo but I haven't been successful yet (apart from one buddy who's only seen Part 4). I got one friend to watch part 1 and the first episode or two of part 2, but our schedules are different so she hasn't got any further. Plus she's not big into fighting/action anime and would rather watch YOI.
Another friend won't give anything Japanese a chance, which grinds my gears because he loves the Justice League cartoon so why wouldn't he check out another cartoon show?
Most of my other friends I keep pestering to watch/read but they never do. It just annoys me when I pester people with shows to watch and then they spend weeks rewatching some show they've already seen for the fifth time.
I've always been awful at convincing people to read/watch anything, though, so this is nothing new. It's just kind of bothersome how with the majority of my favorite things I have no friends IRL who are interested.
I got my classmates (who are super into anime, which I'm not) to watch a couple of episodes of part 2 but then they never spoke of it again so I just gave up to avoid pestering them and turning them away even more
I'm used to people not trying out things I recommend to them :(
the capcom jojo fighting game is the only really good jojo game

Killer Queen has already touched that email.
Part 4 spoilers.
I find it interesting how many comparisons to David Bowie people make about Kira, despite that [sp]he only spends a little amount of time in the show with that look[/sp]
Personally I think he looks better when [sp] he is at his second and third versions [/sp]

As much as I love [sp]Kosaku-Kira and Watermelon Head[/sp], David Bowie is the best-looking by far.
David Bowie Kira is amazing.
Especially if your first time seeing him was in manga form
manlets: when will they learn?
