This brings back so much nostalgia. They shouldn't of stopped it in the first place, but I am stoked that it's going to be back  I just hope they don't post too many spoilers before the show begins.
Tonight is the night! And seeing who is taking part in the opening episode I am super hyped. Hehe, when I told my dad the show was coming back he beamed like a Cheshire Cat. We used to watch it when I was a kid, watching the repeats on Saturday Afternoons when it first started and then every Friday when it came to series 2. I've not been this hyped for something in years.
http://www.battlebotsupdate.com/ Battlebots Update will be doing it's regular satirical commentary on Robot Wars 2016, he already did the first season that had Clarkson and that's worth a good read. http://www.battlebotsupdate.com/robot-wars-uk-s1-heat-a/ I hope he does the Craig Charles era at some point.
So, it seems that the House Robots have now got twitters and it sounds like Robot Wars will be broadcasted this month. Sir Killalot - "Fear me, I am the Dark Lord of Robot Wars. (Location - Your Laundry Basket)" Dead Metal - "I like circular saws" Sgt Bash - "I've been benched for this series. I'm not bitter about it though.. I mean, sometimes you save the best til last right?....RIGHT???" Shunt - "Yes I got had by Roadblock in Series 1 Sumo - let it go!"
WOW, so it turns out that a lot of work had been underway for the original House Bots. Not only that but they have been rebuilt to be hundreds of kilograms heavier :v:
We are now live. Those who get past the free for all have at least 3 more fights now that they have a small league system, that's great to see. Would maybe perfer if the free for all at the start would just give whoever survives a small point advantage and have everyone fight a fixed number of fights. That being 3 fights with 2 hour repair times and a downright win will give more points than leaving it to a judges decision. [sp]Looks like Razer should be remade more.[/sp]
Nuts nvp
Now that was pretty awesome, looks like the [sp]flippers aren't as powerful as before[/sp]. Also RIP old theme music, you will be missed.
Johnathan Pearce is definitely back.
That was fucking brilliant.
I was always amazed when comparing Robot Wars designs to Battlebots designs. So many Robot Wars contestants had ridiculously tacky and silly designs and still went in just for the hell of it. You never heard "we're really not expecting to win but we'll give it our best shot" in Battlebots. Only problem was when designs as Chaos 2 and Cassius caught on and people realized how unfairly the Robot Wars arena favored flippers unlike Battlebots whose arena and ruleset gave a pretty level playing ground for all types of bot (at least the original series since requiring a powered weapon meant that the check vertical spinner, the wedge, can't be entered). Additionally because of that the series never got many "destructive" bots not named hypnodisc and they had to rely on the house bots for all the gore. I'm glad the new design of the arena has the walls put up much higher in most parts to make flipper bots have to put in a bit of effort in order to claim their easy win.
Battlebots had Buddy Lee Don't Play in the Street, Peg Leg, Snake, Stewbot, Chiabot, Whatever that coffin bot was that Tombstone shredded last season. There's been plenty of bots in both that really had no chance. As for tonight's episode I thought it was decent. I'm not a huge fan of the camerawork, and the flashing arena lights got old fast. The fights were okay. I didn't really like the 4 bot matches as much but that may have had more to do with the camerawork than the fights themselves.
The fights were great but the camera made me feel like I wasn't watching the match and instead was watching a MLG pro montage of the match. The old Robot Wars actually had a nice birds eye view where the camera was zoomed out where I could see everything that was happening. Still while Razer didn't even make it through the pelims I'm at least glad we got a solid threat in the grand finals going in.

That needs to be back.
I'm watching this on iPlayer and holy shit it's so good. The tone is right, the robots are great and it really feels like everyone involved loves Robot Wars as much as I do. Good job BBC and everyone involved!
Carbide Is ridiculously strong.
some of the camera shots in the area looked like they had lower than usual FPS. Was kinda jarring to watch [editline]24th July 2016[/editline]
Carbide Is ridiculously strong.
thats just the nature of that kinda weapon, matildas flywheel and hypnodisc are also crazy strong, the only thing is spinning them up to speed, not sure why flywheels never caught on really. piercing attacks like razer are also devastating but harder to control as the other robot has to be somewhat compliant [editline]24th July 2016[/editline] flywheels store energy and just shit it all out when they get stopped suddenly
There was something a little 'sparse and reserved' about the episode in terms of production. No music during the fights, the poor sound quality of the commentary and the way it was shot make it feel a little less polished in terms of its appearance than the old series, which may be their intention; to make it seem a little more live and kinetic but there were times it made me feel a little motion sick. I am not 100% sold on the points system as I would rather there were more robots fighting rather than expecting the combatants to fight more, (which may be why the house robots were not as aggressive when the combatants rolled into their zones) but, this is a new series so maybe they did not have the numbers for that. I've never been sold on the big multi-fighter brawls though and would rather that there was 1v1s like in series 3 but that's a personal thing. Also I noted that during the package on Killerhurtz it showed footage of its upcoming fight against Nutz. Whoopse. I do miss Craig and the OTT nature of his series but I like that the pit coverage was split between the two new presenters. This one feels a little more Techy than the pure carnage and entertainment of the old. Which is not a bad thing per say and having the combatants fight more fights tests them more as builders and technicians which is a cool angle I have to admit and feels truer in some regards to the first two series; though instead of testing them extra trails its through their own ability. I still enjoyed it though, and it was great to watch, even if this new incarnation dose feel very BBC 2.
Carbide's weapon is the most powerful bar spinner in Robot Wars history, measuring 85cm in length, weighing 25kg and spinning at 2300RPM. The weapon operates at 20 horsepower to inflict massive damage. Carbide's armour consists of 5mm military grade steel, and 8mm aerospace grade aluminium.
The quality and materials of the robots have really jumped after 12 years.
The quality and materials of the robots have really jumped after 12 years.
aerospace/military grade dont mean much without a grade number. "aerospace" grades go from 2000grade to 7000grade, which have their own benefits and drawbacks
The camerawork was just weird. Most of the problems with it just shouldn't happen when the event isn't a live broadcast. There's no reason to miss parts of the fight while you're showing replay. Same with the cuts to the crowd, why advance the footage of the fight when you really don't need to.

The show might as well cut to black for a few seconds because not a single time I could see what was happening nor did I give a shit even if I could see. I just want to see the fucking fight and the editors struggled in giving me that one simple request.
I agree with the camera work complaints. I'm sitting right now here actually feeling motion sick after watching it on iPlayer. The content was fucking sweet, though. Nutz was brilliant and really entertaining.
I wish the pit exploded every time a competitor landed in one. Not exactly sure why they removed it in the new arena. Also having watched some of the old series on Challenge yesterday I really think a DVD boxset of the old series really would not go amiss.
im so happy :]
I agree with the camera work complaints. I'm sitting right now here actually feeling motion sick after watching it on iPlayer. The content was fucking sweet, though. Yeah, the camera work could do some improvement, those corner cameras are questionable and why is there a camera under the fire pit? I'm just going to say it's pilot season issues. I'm going to watch through the first episode again and get some data recorded.
i'm trying to watch this really hard but i'm just gonna give up halfway through 4 bots are way too busy, i can't see shit what's going on, shame really
Stand by for Episode 2. I'm going to shamelessly rip part of the pre-episode discussion at reddit here, but tonight we have... Chimera - a full body Axe robot Disconstructor - a powerful spinning disc (duh) Draven - a bird-like crusher Foxic - a flipper, lifter and guillotine all in one M.R Speed Squared - a full body spinner Shockwave - a lifter with interchangeable weapons Thor - a powerful hammerbot Tough as Nails - a vertical crusher/grabber
Just got done watching the first episode- I gotta say, I enjoyed it, anticlimax aside. Is it bad if part of me wanted Nuts to actually win a match, though?
Now that was actually a rather fantastic episode right up to the end. [sp]Thor got hit by a shockwave in the end sadly[/sp]
It wasnt a bad episode, not as great as the first one but fuck me, Foxic is terrible. [sp]I bet Thor gets the wildcard.[/sp]
