Rip shunt A flipper robot that's actually fun to watch, never thought i'd see the day.
Oh god. If Sir Killalot ends up getting flipped in some Rules of Nature kind of shit, they are going to end up revamping the House Robots again.
Apollo was actually rather entertaining for a flipper, I loved how it actually shown some weakness in parts. I'm really surprised thinking about it how they let them do anything to the house robots, they can't be cheap to produce.
It's a shame the winner of this week's heat looks almost exactly the same as last week's winner. They're the same tall wedge flipper with very minor tweaks. Also I read up a bit on Storm 2 and holy shit talk about being shafted in RW of old. I'm amazed after all the shit the team's been through they weren't denied for the reboot out of pure spite.
Oh god. From what I heard the only reason Bash isn't back is because they did not finish him in time. I personally don't think the house robots don't need redesigning or anything as the reason they seem a little more muted in their destructive power is how the game is organised now; the contestant bots have to fight multiple rounds a heat and as such the house robots can't go to town on them as they would have done in previous years. There are plenty of times that bots have landed in the CPZs that in any other year would have seen the contestant's bots getting smashed but didn't. I have a feeling that we will see them more active in the finals, but of course, if they are not, well, perhaps they will need a looking at or this format as is. As I may have said previously I am not a fan of this format as I would rather there were more bots fighting than the same bots fighting, but then this is a new series so they may not have had the numbers for that and this is somewhat preferable to what they did in series one by having 'stock bots' to make up the numbers. In any case tonight is the final bout before the series finals featuring newcomers Crazy Coupe 88 which is armed with a horizontal bar spinner on the front which can spin up to 2450 RPM and a vertical spinning disk on the back. Also fighting is the tallest bot this series Gabriel; A thwack bot with a range of interchangeable weapons but unlike other thwack bots it is able to operate it's drive and weapons independent of one and other, Our final new comer in this heat is Pulsar and it is a record breaker; it is armed with a spinning drum capable of reaching 9000 RPM making it the fastest spinning weapon in the show's history! And as for veterans we see the return of Team Beast who entered in series 5 and 7 with 8645T and return with their new bot Beast (must have spent all night thinking of that name); it is armed with a front flipper and very little else, so very little else it is rather short on armor! Also returning is Team Cookie Monsters with their bot Chompalot who had fought in Series 6 and Extreme 2 and is armed with a front mounted crushing jaw, rear spike and a pair of wings on its back to aid in self-righting. Next up is the lightest bot in this heat Infernal Contraption armed with a front mounted rotating drum, not the fasted weapon but it can reach its top speed in as little as 3 seconds! And Back again is Team Mouse/Team Outlaw who made their debut back in Series 3 with Velocirippa and are now back with Ironside 3, armed with a horizontal iron bar capable of reaching 1500 RPM who in their first match tonight will face another team who made their debut in Series 3 its Team Lobster with Thermidor 2; rebuilt for the new series with a flipping front face and grabbing claws!
What a show! All of the battles were really good, can't believe it took this long to finally have a Robot catch fire though, I seem to recall that happening quite a bit more. Stoked for the grand final, I hope Thor makes a comeback from the wildcard picks, there's a lot of spinners and flippers in the final and Thor should crush them all.
Now that was a chaotic but incredibly enjoyable episode. More like this for series 2 please.
I've been busy so i forgot Robot Wars was on again. Still watching it, just watched the first group battle. Now, about that Ironside 3 guy. I'm sure i've seen that guy before... wait a minute. ...wait a minute. He's a fucking Dead Ringer.
Watching it now and why did Pulsar had to fail. Nothing gets my robot fan dick hard like a noisy high RPM drum. [editline]21st August 2016[/editline] The only one I was rooting to make it to the round robin was Ironside. The rest didn't look very interesting in the sense that they can't destroy stuff and beast is ANOTHER flipper. [editline]21st August 2016[/editline] Aw shit Pulsar gets a Second Wind thank fuckin god. [editline]21st August 2016[/editline] Pulsar vs Ironside was a mess of a match. They need more firm rulings on all this shit instead of just asking the judges for their interpretation. At least my man Pulsar is making it in. [editline]21st August 2016[/editline] I knew I was rooting for the right team.
Pulsar is a beautiful robot, they just need to fix the reliability issues
Yeah there were plenty times in its last fight where it was pivoting round a lot and had Gabriel gone for a heavier or more accurate weapon like its pick-ax or hammer rather than it's sword or that strange scoop looking one they had with the Ironside 3 the end result could have been far closer. It is worth considering the time-frame between the qualifiers and the final; I imagine that it will have all been done on the same day so they may not have had time to properly fix that and they could suffer if they face a more maneuverable bot who can take advantage of that.
2 Hours until the Finale. Who do you guys want to see win? Really enjoyed this series despite it not being perfect. Hoping the finale has some good action.
Carbine seems like a good contender, but if [sp]Thor[/sp] comes back I think it will be in with a good shot.
Should be able to get back home in time to watch it live. I say this while being the passenger of a car currently driving through the A74 from Manchester. If not, Iplayer hasn't failed me yet. [sp]Thor for the wild card.[/sp]
My thoughts in a nutshell on each bot: Carbide: Powerful spinning weapon and I am not 100% certain if the other bots (those who are defiantly have a place in the finals that is) have the armor to hold it off. However as is the case with all bots with a spinning weapon it takes time to spin up to be fully effective and should it strike the sides of the arena it could damage the spinner, and its armor has never really been tested against a powerful weapon which given who it could be facing and the potential for more aggressive house robots it could be vulnerable if it gets tossed around or hit too hard. Shockwave: I was never really convinced by the bot's offensive power as it feels its path to victory relies on shouldering the punishment of the other bots which is fine against spinners and over head weapons like Thor's hammer and M.R. Speed Squared's spinner but it will struggle I feel against the flipper bots even if it is invert-able as its own flipper (the scoop) is too slow combat that and if the flipper bots really give it no quarter it could be tossed around like a rag doll. But it dose have the highest top speed of the bots in the final so it could work quickly to TR2: The only bot to make it to the final undefeated which is no mean feat given some of the bots it was up against, however it is not the fastest bot, dose not have the mightiest flipper and is up against three bots potentially who can all move inverted if need be. Dose this mean that the bot has not got a prayer? No, as it is piloted by a driver who was the youngest featherweight and heavyweight UK champion on the live circuits so there is a great deal of experience behind the controls even if the bot may not be the out and out 'best' on paper. If it presses the advantage early on against the spinners and can out maneuver the flippers it stands a chance. Apollo: Another flipper but a powerful one, a big one so if like TR2 it can press the advantage on that it can win out. However as we saw in the heats it may still have drive issues stemming from its strike from PP3D and like all flipper bots it has a limited C02 supply and if cannot finish its matches quickly and is out maneuvered by the spinners it could be left vulnerable either getting struck in the tires again or being left without a flipper. It has to get in got to town on them other bots ASAP else it will be found wanting. Pulsar: Powerful weapon, crazy powerful and unlike Carbide it may not suffer as much damage from direct impacts on it, it's small and invert-able. It has a lot going for it. But, drive issues again may be the issue and with exposed tires come the extra vulnerability from over head weapons. And I am not 100% sure how tested the bot really has been. Its last fight was against Gabriel which whilst I really like that bot it was never really challenged the same way the others have been I mean, I don't even recall it facing a flipper so who knows how it could really do against that. As for the wildcards, really, it is going to be Thor as its the best bot out of the others. Winner, I will say either Carbide, Pulsar or Thor if it makes it.
That was a pretty good finale, poor [sp]Thor[/sp] however. Either way will be picking this up on Blu-ray in the near future.
That was fun to watch. Honestly didn't know who was going to win at the end. [sp]Carbide fucking ripped shit up. Poor shockwave just got chewed up and spat out. You could see the nerves hanging out of that TR2 kid's face just before their fight against carbide.[/sp]
Well it's over, and it was enjoyable enough but needs work. S2, should it happen. Give the teams more time to fix their shit after a fight. it aint fun watching broken robots limp on through subsequent fights in the space of 6 hours.
I agree with that statement but cannot elaborate on my position or opinion as I am exhausted after watching that last match and need a cigarette and a lay down.
Dat final. Holy fucking shit. I can sum it up with perfect music. That was like watching Rocky 4 all over again from start to finish.
Bit of a bump, but...
Bit of a bump, but...
It's a shame they're still going to make it only 6 episodes compared to the 15 or however many Extreme got. Plus because of their rushed schedule, applications are only open for 10 days, and the building process for accepted groups will last only 7 or 8 weeks. This is why we had a few half-assed entries last season. Still good to see Robot Wars is popular enough to continue. Hope Battlebots gets the season 3 announcement very soon.
Great news! Really enjoyed watching the recent series with all my mates who have nostalgia for Robot Wars.
I am sure that the number of applications that they get this time around will help to influence the number of episodes a potential third series will get; if they get more than they got for the first series (which is more than likely) They may open it up more maybe. Failing that there is just a push by the fans for more by messaging them or petitioning them etc.
