I know, that is their idea though which seems to have just been grasped from the air in a way that would not break the show too much for the spinners. Personally I would either put a max speed limit on spinners and/or reconsider the inactive weapons ruling. The key with beating spinners is to deny them the chance to spin-up to full speed, that is what Eruption tried to do but failed as it's armor could not stand the punishment or get a decent flip to stop it. If you had a bot who could withstand that punishment and bully the spinner as Terrorhurtz did when it fought Carbide it stands a better chance to win.

It's such a good machine.

And the producers seem to be willing to waive the active weapon rule when it suits them, seeing as Chimera2 got through.
Chimera 2 was able to get though on it as it was able to use it's weapon without fully moving the bot like with tradition thwack-bots. Granted the scoop thing on the front allowed it to do so but same end result.
So filming started on the new series the other day, and this series will only have 30 competitors. The featherweight tournament has had to be delayed to a future series. The fewer competitors are due to a new heat format, hopefully to avoid the cripple fights that plagued the last series. Amazon have just put up a listing called Robot Wars - The Complete Compendium 2017, and it's due for release on 16th October. I doubt they'd release the DVD before the series finishes, so assuming this releases the Monday after the series finishes, we're looking at the last week of August for the new series.
Looks like we've got an idea of the airdate, from The Guardian:
Are your children unimpressed by you? Of course, I’m just embarrassing Dad. The only thing that’s really clicked with them is Robot Wars. Our house is scattered with cardboard cutouts of robots. It’s back on TV in October, and this series there’s a 10-robot battle, so I got the kids along to the studio for that. There were 10 illuminated robots flying around the arena at once. It was by some distance the longest fight ever. By the end there was a huge robot pile-up in the pit, all still clanking and spinning. Even my kids conceded that was pretty cool.
Do we have any idea how many episodes there could be this year? If that compilation DVD is supposed to be released as predicted at the end of the series it would only be a matter of counting backwards from there to get an approximate start date. Or maybe once again I am over thinking a Robot Wars thing.

A little bit of news regarding the new season, The two biggest new things if note is the new episode format and a new rule. A new episode will feature only 6 contestants instead of 8 and use a double elimination format. [T]https://i.redd.it/8auacnut5kxy.png[/t] I personally enjoy it, since everyone will get at least 2 fights in. Presumably the season will be 30 contestants over at least 6 episodes. Additionally, The rules will give bonus weight for walker bots (think Pressure Drop or Mechadon from Battlebots). They're also legalizing entanglement weapons under certain rules, giving spinners like Carbide an extra challenge when keeping their weapons running.

[sp]Also, probably the closest to a BattleBots/Robot Wars crossover we'll get[/sp]
I wonder how long it will take some roboteers to convert then into ant weight bots...
I wonder how long it will take some roboteers to convert then into ant weight bots...
They're always made up of flimsy plastics and weak motors since they need to abide by child safety standards, so to "convert" it into something built for an antweight arena would likely mean replacing literally the whole toy in the process. Plus, heavyweight designs usually don't translate very well into making a 1lb version.

New teaser trailer plus confirmation: October 22nd 8pm.
In the meantime, check out King of Bots, which starts on the 7th. It's China's first robot tournament of this scale, and a good few of the contenders are international legends and contenders from Robot Wars and Battlebots, so it's totally worth checking out. Also, one of the Chinese contenders looks like a fucking gaming mouse.
Why am i getting an Edgy Chaos vibe from that thing?
The BBC have put up a press release that accidentally revealed the line up for the first episode. A week later I feel actually well enough to post about my thoughts of last week's fight. I love the new format, it feels a lot more relaxed to me, but then that is possibly because the roboteers are not falling over themselves trying to tape their bots together again from what few parts they were able to stick in their bin bag before the next fight started. I have to say that I did see the final two coming, not the end result mind, but I'll take it, one bot was far better than the other but, I am fine with it! I was ill that weekend, couldn't speak so when the end happened I was physically unable to enunciate my shock. Just a raspy squeak. This week, well, unless something spectacular happens with Carbide to knock them out or damage them to such a degree their effectiveness is servery hindered I can see them winning the group. Second place will either be Eruption or Aftershock. As my as I love Gabriel I can't see it being too effective against the other bots it is placed against.
Gabriel 2 is ... interesting to say the least. Carbide effectively beat this shit out of itself. And eruption does not play well with others. Well it's over, [sp]after last week and this i feel confident in saying the New format is infinately better than previous, no more bots limping though subsequent rounds meaning the battles are alot more entertaining, this week helped by the arena being torn apart and robots being thrown about left right and centre, i'm also finding the match ups a little more 'fair' as there does seem to be more thought put into the matchups. Carbive vs Aftershock for example.[/sp] I'm looking forward to the 10 man free for all in the final more than the actual final if i'm honest though.
That's gotta he a contender for one of the best RW episodes out there. Sure it's probably because the 6 teams were all possible finalist contenders, with 3 being top 4 material, but still entertaining nonetheless. Every robot had its own amazing moment.
Eh, I wasn't all that keen on last week's episode, I loved the variety in it but in the end it just turned into the usual Carbide/Eruption one flip/hit K.O.s, still not to say I hated it. Hell, it proves one thing if nothing else, Carbide is wound-able... maybe. Anyway tonight sees Apex Track-Tion Terrorhurtz Bucky The Robot Vulture Rapid Apex has the largest horizontal spinner in the show's history which potentially means it is rather powerful (even if the bar it self looks ugly as sin). But just because a bot is powerful dose not mean that it is necessarily going to go the distance. Last series it did next to nothing despite the power it is claimed that it has. But still, if it gets up to speed very little could stand in it's way. Tracktion is school team's bot which I believe is made from a bomb disposal robot, it is a crusher/grabber. I don't hold out much hope for it honestly. Terrorhurtz, axe bot, we know it, we love it, not really changed from previous series. Heavy armour out from, stonking big axe on top. If it can withstand Apex then I dare say it has a good chance of winning this heat or at least getting second place. Bucky the Robot, looks more like an advertising project than a legit attempt at creating a formidable robot. Still, it looks great even if it dose look like it is made out of Meccano. Vulture, has an 'Overhead spinner' which by the looks of it means it is an axe bot with a spinner rather than a static blade, or that it can act as both a static blade or a spinning blade. A fantastic idea if it can work, hell, even if the spinning part buggers up it can still just twat the other bots with it. Rapid, flipper, most expensive bot in the show's history (unlike Mortis the team actually paid for the parts rather than calling in favors and seeing what they could get). Fast, powerful, but given the cost and bespoke nature of some of the parts repairs are going to be a bitch. My top three would be Apex, Terrorhurtz, Rapid.
Hopefully Rapid actually lives up to the hype the team built up around it last season and it doesn't shit out halfway through the episode. I'm rooting for Team Hurtz for this heat. I always love their robots in action.
Fun Fact: [sp]Rapid vs Track-tion[/sp] is the [sp]Fastest Robot Wars match of all time, clocking in at only 5.6 seconds, .2 seconds faster than Gravity vs Dantomkia, which was all the way back in series 7.[/sp] [sp]Good episode though, was a bit disappointed there was only one spinner worth mentioning, but it made sure to show destruction never before seen on Robot Wars, for better or worse.[/sp]
Well, I suppose that Apex really is the apex of distruction... or something, I dunno... Penultimate heat tonight with a curious selection of bots: Androne 4000 - Crusher Iron-Awe 6 - Flipper The Kegs - Cluster-bot/Horizontal Spinners Tauron - Horizontal Spinner Nutz 2 - Twackbot (though officially a spinner (?)) and a minibot Concussion - Drumspinner This is an odd heat with a range of robots that either have great destructive capabilities; Concussion's spinner will eat lighter armor in no time, Androne's Crusher can crush with eight tones of force and Tauron's spinner apparently sounds terrifying when at top speed so it must be good, right!? But then you have harder to deal with bots like Nutz 2 who can now spin and move at the same time (Though it could do that last series but never got chance to as it was bummed out of the arena by Matilda) The Kegs which is two spinners coming at a bot from two sides. And then you have Iron-Awe 6 whom on the live circuit have been nigh unstoppable so has considerable experience behind it which as we have seen before can help to overcome more powerful bots. But, with that all said, top three for me will be, Concussion, Iron-Awe and Tauron. EDIT: 26/11/2017 Okay, it has been over a week due to sodding Tennis but we are back for the final qualifiers before the finals next week, this week features the following bots: Coyote - Crusher/Chainsaw bot with Mini-twack bot Expulsion - Spinner Hobgoblin - Egg Beater Spinner Magnetar - Vertical spinner Push To Exit - Front Hinged Flipper Thor - Hammer Bot So, we have two previous finalists and four other robots of varying potential. We have Coyote, looks wonderful but didn't do much of anything last time, but then they were mangled by Carbide so it is hard to say how strong that crusher can really be. Still, the machine looks rather fragile all the same and a good wack from Magnatar, Hobgoblin, Expulsion, Thor, Push to Exit, a stiff breeze and it will be mangled up again. Expulsion just looks odd, I understand the design is meant to against flippers and absorb shocks but... it looks like a more competent Detonator! Hobgoblin, potentially powerful, but one flip and it is on it's arse, whilst it has been reworked to work both ways it looks like a janky way in doing so. Magnatar, it is Pulsar, but bigger, nuff said. Push to Exit, it is the only flipper in a heat with bots who could struggle against one. But, it is rather big, lots of wide area to get gobbled up by those same robots, but, . And finally we have Thor, everyone loves Thor! Everyone Loves Jason Marston! Given the competition it is facing this heat, well, it has a good chance in going the distance. My as usual possibly incorrect top three will be, Thor, Magnatar and... Push to Exit?! It is kind of hard to figure what the third robot will be as the others are all potentially good, but then so was Iron-Awe and Tauron and they both did next to nothing last week. So... eh! We shall see!
man expulsion really couldn't drive for shit
