Pretty sure in the original he hardly ever flew Thunderbird 3 alone. I think the only time he didn't have a co-pilot was when he was restocking Thunderbird 5.

They're hinged, and are used as grab arms, for docking with Thunderbird 5, and holding craft it's rescuing stable during the rescue.

Sylvia Anderson will play Penelope's Great Aunt Sylvia, in an episode called Designated Driver, written by David Baddiel.
The BFI will be holding a special screening of the pilot episode "Ring of Fire" in London March 31st, followed by a Q&A with Giles Rideg, Kayvan Novak, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and David Graham.
And the first trailer will be released next Friday.
