i'm pretty sure the whole point of episode 7 is to pave the way for season 3 focusing on [sp]all of eleven's siblings with Dr. Brenner being the main antagonist again. the smoke monster will probably return again for season 4. the upsidedown is amazing and all but I wouldn't mind if they hit pause on that for a bit to instead focus on a psychic army plotline for a season. they'll probably find a way to cram both plotlines in at once anyways lol but if not I bet it'll end with their fight accidentally tearing open a new gate to the upsidedown allowing for season 4 to return focus to that place + smoke monster[/sp]
I was really hoping that was going to be the case this season. Felt like kind of a retread of season 1. Here's hoping they go full out with their Firestarter game next season.

Just mashed through the whole season in the last few days. Damn what a great show this is.

Spoiler alert, found the pic on reddit but thought it was worth sharing https://i.redd.it/7l55a4zry4vz.jpg [sp]this such a sweet image, I never noticed this when I watched it[/sp] [editline]7th November 2017[/editline] Also the Stranger Things soundtrack is just great, I have been listening to it a bit on spotify for the last few days. I am far too used to electronic music being quite energetic and actioney, ST and also Blade Runner have shown a different side to it that I have never really experienced before.

Here's some early s3 news, and i'm liking what i'm hearing for it.
[sp]If there is anything that characterizes the distinction between Season 1 and 2 of “Stranger Things,” it’s that the breadth of the world is explored more. However, the Duffer Brothers hinted that a third season will focus more on character development than on expanding the scope of the show, which we got plenty of in Season 2. “It’s not necessarily going to be bigger in scale,” said Matt Duffer. “What I am really excited about is giving these characters an interesting journey to go on.” Season 3 is still so early in its stages of development that it hasn’t even gotten an official greenlight. “It’s really just Matt and me working with some writers and figuring out where it’s going to go,” said Ross Duffer. Yet, they were able to say that the new season is going to be “something almost weirdly more intimate” and “a lot of fun.”[/sp]
Source :http://www.indiewire.com/2017/11/stranger-things-duffer-brothers-season-3-1201894841/ [sp]I'm putting my money on john hughes films being one of the major inspirations for s3, breakfast club came out in 1985, back to the future also came out that year as well. Hell there were a lot of movies that came out that year they could use.[/sp]
IMDB just posted this on their Facebook. (spoilers) [vid]https://my.mixtape.moe/apbjsv.mp4[/vid] Pretty neat seeing all the 80s period references.

Early in season 2 I kept thinking, [sp]it'd be easy to keep Will from having more episodes. Every time the lab is about to do a burning, just put Will in the car and have someone drive him around for a while.[/sp] [sp]I mean, if only Will appears there in the Upside-Down, who would be driving the car? Would the car be there at all? He couldn't just be floating along as if in an invisible vehicle. The storyboarders wouldn't know how to portray it, so he'd be perfectly safe! And if he just fell to the ground in the Upside-Down, there'd be a serious client-server desync, and you'd need to restart the whole match so that the engine doesn't crash trying to reconcile physics objects being in two places at once.[/sp]

The driver turns around, and it's a demagorgon in a cheaffeur's cap
[sp] Nancy just didn't love him and sorta forced herself to be with him because Jonathan wasn't emotionally available, she was lonely. Nancy is sort of a bad person. [/sp]
[Sp] most of them are sort of bad people. Dustin hiding the demodog and sending his momma off with false hope, Jonathan being a creepy photo stalker, Steve being a dickhead until he decided not to be, etc. Part of what makes the show great is that grey morality where the good guys give in to weakness or impulse or just bad decision making and manage to redeem themselves in other ways. [/Sp]

so I've mostly been avoiding everything from this show up until recently, but the hype of Season 2 has got me slightly interested. Am I right to assume this is a Super 8-ish Stephen King X-Files/Twin Peaks amalgamation? cos if so that sounds p neat-o and I'll watch the first episode today.

The children protagonists are basically the same kind of group as in IT, Stand By Me, E.T., and the Goonies. Stranger Things and Super-8 are both modern works that give omage to that setup. So if you liked those movies and books, Stranger Things is pretty much engineered to be up your alley.
holy frick I'm on episode 4 and it's already a wild ride [sp]I sorta really like how it's a mix of Freaks and Geeks with Super 8/Stephen King odd shit. And every cockblock that these science lads keep pulling off reminds me so much of the X-Files, it's honestly great.[/sp] actual spoilers... [sp]I kinda hope Barbs doesn't die, she was actually sorta rly likable, and I'm already salty about that bearded lad from The Knick getting got. I just want everyone to compare notes rn omg[/sp]
It's weird how I never caught the Sean Astin goonies reference

Season 3 being on a smaller scale while still ramping things up jhfusdfuasdu f I need it.
Strongest part of the new season for me was that they didn't take certain characters in super obvious directions. [sp]Steve wasn't just "jerko wrong boyfriend" and was great with Dustin/the kids. Bob was useful and not just "unlikable out-of-touch dad replacement" character. Paul Reiser wasn't a totally irredeemable bad guy. That would have been silly if he was the exact same character as in Aliens. Billy was even given the scene with the hardass dad so that he wasn't a totally 1-dimensional bully.[/sp] There are other pros and cons, but the bad things that stood out to me: The scenes with [sp]Will after he got infected felt really clunky, dunno if anyone else will agree here but about 1/4 of the way into the season or so I started to worry that it was gonna go downhill. It was also probably because Joyce started doing the crazy lady putting weird shit all over the house thing again.[/sp] And I agree that [sp]The 11/8 episode felt out of place too. Once I realized they were doing an X-Men vs humans thing it was obvious that 11 was gonna go back. I'm glad it was contained to 1 episode.[/sp]
Season 2 spoilers, to finale [sp]Dustin and Steve walkin' around was really funny, of course. But i do think it could have made Steve's transition make more sense if they used that relationship to show him the truth of his behavior. He goes from hating Nancy to accepting that he was a shitty boyfriend, and it happens over time, but the change is all at once while they're helping set up for Will's exorcism. It would have been great if Dustin asked him how to talk to women, and Steve responded with his usual high school boyfriend womanizer tricks, prompting Dustin to be his foil. It could have led to Steve doing some real and apparent reflection with the help of someone who's looking in from the outside. When they talk about the party, for example.[/sp] [sp]"How do you know when a girl likes you?" "Sometimes you never know. Sometimes it turns out they never loved you at all. And sometimes they freak out and drink too much and call everything bullshit and you just gotta...get out of there." "Is that what happened with Nancy?" "Yeah. But you don't tell anyone that." "So...if someone gets drunk and yells at you, you ditch them?" "Well..." "And then you let them walk home alone?" "No. No, I mean, Jonathan took her home." "Oh, so you let her #2 take her back home! And then later you...uh." "..." "..." "...I might have been a huge dick to Nancy."[/sp]
mmkay I finished it, I spread it out over a couple days... I got some things I wanna reflect on, but mostly... [sp]I love how concise and neat the show was, everything was very well planned and executed and the acting was extremely superb. I love how all the characters felt real and weird either otherwordly smart or down right stupid.[/sp] [sp]Barb dying sorta felt out of place and, I know it'd be weird to have them save her AND Will, but I don't think she should've died. Maybe become the UpsideDown Queen or something, idk...[/sp] [sp]I'm really loving this X-Files theme of the government watching everything and shutting things down the closer Hopp gets, it's used so well. Also I think Hopp might be ex-Fed, just the way he handles that interrogation scene and when they're beating/tazing him asking "WHO ARE YOU WITH?!"[/sp] [sp]I really hope El is okay, like we see Hopp put the waffles in that lil bin but like why would she be out in the freezing cold? Unless she's in the UpsideDown and is trapped?[/sp] [sp]idk if there were multiple monsters, I mean Hopp finds an egg and then him and Joyce track it back to the library. Maybe their nest is the library and, we've actually been seeing multiple monsters, what if the one Jonathan and Nancy and Steve hurt is different from the one the MP were shooting. I sort of find it odd that when Nancy shoots it, it flinched heavily, yet when it's under sustain gunfire it waltzed around like it wasn't just bleeding before. Also the slug/worm/things does that mean it turns you into a giant easter egg and then you turn into the monster or? Whatever they are, it feels like they gave Will powers too. It looks like he can now travel between the UpsideDown and real world. So now I'm wondering if El is trapped there, will Will have to save her?[/sp] [sp]The score is fantastic, I didn't know if I'd like the bouncy creeping synth, but it actually reminds me of The Knick, where it picks up and plays perfectly with the scene. That's very thoughtful editing[/sp] [sp]I thought it was extremely well how they did Steve's arc, and how they redeemed him and didn't make the whole cliché where good guy gets the girl. That was done very well, it was also a special touch of him getting Jonathan that new camera.[/sp] [sp]I kinda wish they didn't show as much of the monster early on as they did, like it was okay in the photograph and thru the walls, but then it sorta got to a point where it wasn't that scary by the end. It was really scary when it took that one explorer/scientist in from the gate. And that deer scene was hella spooky.[/sp] [sp]OMG AND THE SLINGSHOT FINALLY COMING THROUGH!Lucas over here acting like the Vietnam war never ended, I stg him in that tree watching everything and piecing it together and coming through was insane.[/sp] right now all my thoughts are like super scattered and I have so many questions, but at the same time everything feels answered and how it was presented was feels enough... it's very queer.
[sp]I don't think Hopper was with the feds, I think it was just part of him having been in Vietnam?[/sp]
[sp]I think at that point Hopper only knows that there's a cover up. Not who is actually responsible.[/sp]
