This season was entertaining but largely forgettable to me and the issues stems beyond ep 7. Large part of this season felt like it didn't know what to do with the characters. The new ginger girl and her asshole brother felt kind of pointless and their scenes were repetitive. After 11 ran away, her character didn't do much besides her adventure in New York and her "cathartic" scene with Jim felt unearned because there was such a large gap of absence with the two of them together on screen for a large part of the season.
The first half especially felt like it was dragging its feet in the ground tying up loose ends and introducing new elements that really weren't that interesting. Once things kick off in ep 6, it becomes entertaining, but overall this season felt really uneven and really don't see where else they can take these characters. I'm starting to wish that this series remained an anthology. From all the media buzz and the direction of the show, it's starting to feel like it's too in love with itself.
Just finished Season 2.
It's overall just as good as/even better than Season 1 until episode 7.
Then we get [sp]a totally pointless plotline that's resolved in the same episode it's introduced in.[/sp] Follow that up with episode 8, where [sp]every coincidence ever happens. Really Samwise? You just "forgot" the gun? Fucking really? And they're able to completely deduce how the shadow monster works because it's kinda similar to a DnD monster? I know they did the whole Demogorgon thing last episode, but at least that was like, an animal, rather than some inter-dimensional psychic cloud.[/sp]
And then episode 9 is actually pretty goddamn good, just barely managing to pull out of the nosedive by virtue of being really, really [sp]cute[/sp] at the end there.
I feel like the main plot was really solid and a nice follow-up to the first season (they even point out how derivative S1 was, and it feels like they did put in some real effort to rely less on established tropes), but they spread it too thin. Honestly, I'd have liked an entire episode about Max and Billy rather than "ooh, maybe [sp]we'll get a spin-off featuring numbers 1-10 and it'll be just like X-Men"[/sp].
All in all it was pretty good, but MAN do things get sloppy near the end.
[editline]16th November 2017[/editline]
The opening scene with the robbers would have been an amazing stinger to lead into Season 3, tbh. They should have completely purged all that stuff since it amounted to literally nothing in the end.
[editline]16th November 2017[/editline]
Also MAN did they do our boy Finn dirty this time. I don't know if it was because he was off filming IT or something, but Mike hardly did anything besides bitch and moan about his blueballs until the last episode.
I agree. Given how short the season is, blowing a whole episode on a one and done story seems wasteful and like lost time.
Given that it's exactly one episode longer than the previous season, I can forgive them for the indulgence.
That almost makes it worse though, since they already proved they can do a story in 8 episodes. There's an extra episode here but it's literally all filler, so there's no point to adding an extra episode aside from being able to hype it up as "BIGGERER AND BETTERER THAN THE FIRST ONE", which they really don't need to do, since the escalation of story and threat feels really natural off the bat.
[editline]17th November 2017[/editline]
Especially since, like I mentioned, they could have spent that whole episode developing Max and Billy since they really don't impact the plot in any meaningful way aside from being "the new characters". They get some stuff, but it's clearly the short end of the story-stick, ESPECIALLY when compared to BasedBob.
[sp]and really? 'the cat dies!! so scary/evil it EATS the cat wooaaah!!' that is such a poor trope and terrible writing.[/sp]
I don't get it mate, it seems like a fairly inoffensive piece of writing. It's logical, has its place in the narrative, and moves the plot forward. What's your issue with it?
Personally it felt a little weird how [sp]Dustin didn't seem to care at all that his cat was getting disemboweled on his bedroom floor[/sp].
Like, it feels like that's the kinda thing a kid would at least get a LITTLE upset about, but his reaction was way more [sp]"OH NO, THIS THING IS A MONSTER, I'M IN TROUBLE" rather than "HOLY FUCK MEWS"[/sp].

Dustin's shown to care about [sp]his turtle but I don't remember him showing affection to the cat, it's his mom's baby more than anything.[/sp]

Was it his cat, or his mom's? I felt like his mom was really attached to it, as she seemed really broken up about the cat being missing.

The Tumblr nose is strong
those don't look anything like the actors
I hate show//mv's cos they remind me of bad AMV's and this is mad spoilers, but this video made me actually cry
I have a feeling [sp]joyce is gonna be with hopper, its somewhat implied they feel for each other in season 2. If it does it just be cliche, and chances are bob will be forgotten.[/sp]
[sp]They got to be together in the future, otherwise there would be no logical reason for Joyce and her family to remain in Hawkins. The main reason they still did this season is because Will needed to be examined at the lab, which no longer exists. Probably because of Bob too, but he is out of the picture too. Hopper will stay because he feels responsible to the town.[/sp]
I kinda hope they don't end up together. It just feels like the low-hanging fruit, I honestly think it would be way more interesting to see them function simply as friends who've been through some shit together.
That's the thing that kinda bugged be about [sp]Johnathan and Nancy's arc this season. Them not ending up together in S1 was a fun subversion, and while undoing it made Steve into the best character on the show, they still UNDID it, yunno?[/sp]
Besides, he totally should have [sp]hooked up with that girl dressed as Siouxsie at the Halloween party instead of crooked Nancy[/sp] and y'all know I'm right.
Felt like they really rushed the whole[sp] Nancy/Steve/John triangle at the end of S1. We really don't get to look at why Nancy and Steve ended up together. Nancy and John just being friends made sense, but Nancy really wants to get back together with somebody who was that much of an asshole by the end of S1? Just because you smashed a monster with a nailbat doesn't make up for your horrible shitty outbursts all the time. We really needed a scene where Nancy and Steve talked about their relationship at the end of S1 because their relationship seemed super undercooked by the end. S2 explored their relationship a lot more and the motivations of all three characters made a lot more sense.
[/sp]
Basically being subversive for the sake of being subversive at the expense of actual character depth doesn't accomplish anything.
I'm glad [sp]Steve and Nancy didn't end up together. The friendship between Steve and Dustin were some of the best scenes in s2.[/sp]

[sp]They kind of explained it this season, though. She went back to him because it was the comfortable choice. After all, they were already boyfriend and girlfriend, carrying on like nothing happened was only natural when a return to normalcy was the thing they wanted the most.
edit: I mean, they explained it, but it was already the subtext of the S1 ending
On that note, I love the writing for Steve this season. They realized his role was a bit undefined after he outgrew the "douchebag jock" shtick, so they went and gave him some great duties to fill. The dynamic between him and Dustin was hilarious[/sp]
Where's all this negative pushback about the kids coming from? Dustin and Lucas' actors seem like the nicest kids ever, I don't think Will does anything but Stranger Things, Millie Bobbie Brown just kinda does stuff like talk shows and cons and Lip Sync Battle and all that, and then you got /ourguy/ Finn who's probably gonna have the best career out of all of them, yet still takes the time to put out shit like this:

All the shit these children have to put up with, with creeps sexualizing them on social media and harassing them in the streets, it's a miracle they're as well-adjusted as they are (or at least seem to be).
I hope the kids stay humble and don't let fame completely ruin them.
But with how big its become its gonna be hard to avoid
What is the rating of this tv show? I finished both seasons and i feel like theres too much scenes of overall smoking here and there and im pretty sure minors are watching this show too. Kinda worrying.
It’s not like the kids are smoking.
I can't say I was alive in the 80s but my assumption is that smoking was just more popular then.
Speaking of the show's rating, I was really surprised to hear[sp]Billy's dad say "faggot"[/sp] The "worst" besides that is just "shit/bullshit"
It's basically at the level of a PG-rated monster movie from the 80's.
If your kid can watch Indiana Jones or Monster Squad or Goonies, they can watch Stranger Things.

This is probably the case considering Billy is lifting with a smoke in his mouth but it just felt a little concerning for me.

I was honestly 100% expecting Billy to say 'Nigger' in that one scene with Max, I'm surprised they didn't do that tbh. Would have given the scene much more weight imo. In fact, looking back on it, he didn't use any racial slur or make any overt reference to race, which is kinda weird and jarring considering the scene is all about him being racist.
it's because the show is playing it safe to appeal to the mass netflix demographic (after season 1 proved to be such a hit)
But the first season wasn’t even that hard edged. They didn’t even say “fuck” as far as I remember.
They got a cool word for the upside down in the first season, so for the second one they decided they needed to push for another cool word but all they got was "now memories" and it was terrible.
