A TV show this mature with children as the main characters and they aren't insufferable. That seems pretty original to me, maybe I just haven't seen enough TV shows.
That's not my definition of original. I like how the show subverts a lot of 80s tropes but the concepts/characters are things we've seen before.
They've said that they plan to have the second season, if they get one, take place in the same town, a year later. There's a lot of stuff left unexplained, or that they could still explain better, and apparently there's more weird shit going on in Hawkins than what we've seen. Not my original source, since I lost the link, but it'll do.
I won't complain. I just thought it might be nice to have a season-by-season twilight zone kind of thing. I'm still pumped for more Hawkins.
I'm kind of glad they're sticking to the same characters. Everyone did a great job acting and there were a lot of questions in the finale that still need to be answered. [sp] Like the people in suits taking Hopper, and then him sending food to El via the box. What did they talk to him about, what was his response, what else do they have hidden at the lab. Because that place was huge. If the slug is going to come back in play, and the fact that the kid may possibly be connected to both worlds, and randomly disappear. The egg that was hatched. How did it get there, probably more than one monster. [/sp] There's a lot more story wise in these characters, looking forward to a S2.
Watched it in one sitting yesterday, The first half is great and justifies the 9.2 on imdb but I feel like the second half is a little bit dumbed down, everything is too simple. Other than that it was quite good.

The first four or five episodes are perfect since the pacing and atmosphere sets up weird shit happening but all the weird shit seems to be consistent with that universe and seems to follow the rules they've set up so it's all believable. In the last couple episodes I feel that too much happens too fast and spoils the pacing of the series.
I finished it last night and now I'm hungry for a second season. I can't wait, I really enjoyed it.
I'm liking the series so far (I'm starting episode 4), but I feel like [sp]That monster thing is a lot like something I've read in SCP[/sp]. Or maybe it's just a coincidence.
People are entitled to their opinions. Especially when most shows are weak as fuck even if they are "original".
He didn't really imply that people aren't entitled to have an opinion, he seems to just disagree with it. I do as well, since I don't think it's the second coming of christ. I enjoyed it a lot, it's definetly well made and acted, but ultimately feels familiar because it's essentially an e.t./super 8 kind of story. Not that it's a bad thing in itself, but it hits the same notes you'd expect it to, and there are plenty of cliches, although not that many to make it annoying.
The theme music is so fucking good Sounds very familiar to Cliff Martinez's work in Only God Forgives.
Fantastic series, a lot of stuff played out the way you expected it to, but a few surprises. I was expecting [sp]the kids to kill/injure the monster with fire, as a nice callback to them casting fireball at the start, especially as we were just shown it was weak to fire, and they were in the science lab, but it was still a decent way to finish it. Expected Steve (Holt) to die after redeeming himself, but was pretty cool with him swinging that bat around like nobody's business. The sequel hook with the slug was cool, but Jesus that fucking kid can't catch a break, I was hoping they'd give him a happy ever after and let the next season focus on some completely new plot.[/sp]
Finished the season. Other than lack of proper character development and cheesy "jump scares" it's kinda good.

I just finished the first season and I hadn't realized that it was about 3:45 AM by the time I was finished with it. I'm liking the characters/setting/story as well as the 80s vibe it's got to it without looking exaggerated based on a few 80s trends that are relatively popular today. The title looks like it'd be perfect on the covers of a series of classic sci-fi novels for school kids or some shit like that. This poster would be nearly perfect for a novel cover: [t]http://www.what-song.com/images/showposters/173.jpg[/t] Really, the only relatively big problem I had with this was how [sp]the monster looked obviously like CGI. I understand that they probably didn't have a very big budget for special effects, but still[/sp].

"It's not exceptional" well it is for some people and it could very well be one of the best shows in a long time for some.
Except he's stating his opinion as fact. "It's not exceptional" well it is for some people and it could very well be one of the best shows in a long time for some.
It's not necesary to slap "imo" infront of every argument/observation. it's kinda implied.
Just finished it. The first half was twice as good as the second half. [sp] Like the monster in the first half was crazy and spooky as hell. By the time it showed up the in the second half it wasn't scary at all. It's almost like the second half was directed by a different person.[/sp]

Or maybe it's just a coincidence.
It really reminded me of [sp]SCP-106[/sp]. I like the show a lot, but one part of the ending kind of confused me. [sp]Was el just living in the forest after that hiding from the government? Spending her nights in the snow dying of hypothermia??? If she was in the other reality, how did that box transport the food there, it just looked like a regular box? How is she even staying alive in there, isn't the environment toxic?[/sp]

It seems like more of a sentimental, hopeful child thing to do. It seems really weird and out of character for him to do that. [/sp]
Just finished the season. They played on cliches very frequently but the overall presentation made it charming rather than cheesy to me. Honestly looking forward to the next season, I found it pretty enjoyable. [sp]one thing that really got tiresome for me was that electronic BRSRSHHHT sound every time the lights would flicker, really could have done for some variation in the sound design concerning the paranormal activity. the CGI was pretty scrappy too, but it never broke the experience for me too much.[/sp]

Like it's a routine for him.[/sp]
It's a very good show but it's one its way towards becoming the most overrated show of the year. People are acting like its some masterpiece of television. It's well acted, pretty well-written, and well directed, but it's not original at all and no part of it is particularly exceptional (except maybe the soundtrack). I'd give it like an 8, one of the best Netflix originals
i thought the casting was pretty exceptional. almost every actor is perfect for their character

[/sp]
[sp]I feel it may have something to do with Hopper being contacted by the men in black. I interpreted the insinuation being that El is still in the mirror world, and the box is a point of ingress between dimensions where she can collect items or is within an area where she can pass over like the monster did. Hopper leaving the extra food is supposed to represent both his awareness and involvement in the continuation of the project as well as an act of kindness by bringing El extra food for the holidays. It also works with Will still being connected to the mirror world, since the series ends with two prominent characters keeping secrets.[/sp]

They could still have the portal in the lab and know that El is alive. Just haven't found a way to bring her back. They offered him this information because he cared about the child, and they care about her because she can be used as a weapon [/sp]
i thought the casting was pretty exceptional. almost every actor is perfect for their character
this is probably the only movie/show in a long ass time that i didnt hate the kid actors. They actually acted like children with literally no idea of the situation at large. also the soundtrack was perfect for the atmosphere of the movie:
It does have a few predictable tropes, but overall it's pretty well written and aware of itself. I really like how each group of people in the show almost has its own genre attached to it. Hopper's perspective is like a detective thriller, the teenagers have a classic slasher vibe, and the kids have a supernatural horror storyline that's extremely reminiscient of Stephen King. I thought the ending was pretty funny considering how meta it was, with [sp]the kids discussing DnD and complaining about unanswered questions despite the campaign being 10 hours long.[/sp] Also, Dustin is fucking awesome.
I feel like it sometimes has a lovecraft feel to it on top of everything. Also Alien [sp] in the last episode with the egg, Will being walled up with that egg laying snake thing on his face and the larva inside him. [/sp]
