Super good show.[sp]Actually think that El is in the Upside Down, given that she and the monster outright disappeared. Not sure how El could have possibly had a good ending given she was hunted by the secretive CIA organization; I think how it happened was the best way to do it. Its going to be an awesome season 2![/sp]
Just finished watching it. Great show.
[sp] I'm kind of bothered by how nobody seemed to give a fuck about barb's death. It's basically confirmed, we saw the body, eleven said she's 'gone', but even nancy doesn't mention her for the rest of the show. [/sp]

[sp]Perhaps that will be addressed in season 2, if it gets picked up. Eleven confirming her death was in like the last episode, and it was left fairly open ended. I imagine everything that's happened to Nancy will come into play at some point.[/sp]

[sp] What could they do? The gov said they wouldn't go after them if they kept quiet about everything and no one would believe them if they said anything anyway. Everyone had to keep quiet. [/sp]

[sp]I think the thing they're talking about is the fact that Nancy's best friend fucking dies brutally and there's no grief attached to it whatsoever.[/sp]

[sp] I'll chalk it down to them being prepared for the worst and having shit tons on their mind. I do feel bad for Barb though, she was only trying to help her friend. I'm guessing we'll see the aftermath next season. If it doesn't have any effect on Nancy whatsoever it'll be pretty bullshit. I'll feel like shit for the rest of my life. [/sp]

[sp] I really feel like one of the annoying kids should've disappeared along with barbara and died, allowing barb to escape. I don't know what they have planned for her, but there was no reason for her to die like that. Feels like that one death in Jurassic World, where the character did absolutely nothing to deserve it [/sp]

To be fair, reality tends to be like that regardless of who people think "deserves" to live or die.

[sp]honestly i think the detective's deal was, if he told them everything they saw in the dark realm, the government would leave him alone afterwards. As long as he kept quiet about it. That's why the CIA picked him up after they rescued Will.[/sp]

[sp]Character deaths don't have to happen to people who 'deserve it'. It's already hard enough to establish a sizable threat without introducing obvious redshirts, so that'd take all of the tension away, knowing only bad guys can ever be killed.
Barb's death was a decent way of setting up the monster and the government cover-ups, while teasing the upside down. If anything the fact that she was a character we already felt sorry for made it more impactful. That's not to say I wouldn't change anything if I could: IMO, Nancy should've found Barb when she went inside the tree, while the monster should've stayed out of frame for that whole sequence. Hell, I wouldn't be opposed to an Evil Dead style thing, as tacky as that might be[/sp]
The theme music is so fucking good

Sounds very familiar to Cliff Martinez's work in Only God Forgives.
Also on this, apparently the music is done by S U R V I V E, whose tracks you might have heard in The Guest (Omniverse, Hourgless)
A soundtrack will be out soon which will be incredible

Beautiful cover by Peter Gabriel. Made me hope that [sp]Will would at some time listen to the mixtape he got from Jonathan and it would have the original Heroes as the first track, but no :([/sp]
Good show, but I got a bit annoyed at the halfway point when every single lazy prediction I made turned out true. I'd prefer to be wrong to have some surprises left. I guess they played a bit too much with the genre conventions.
[sp] seems like the second season will be a sequel. Kinda disappointing as I would have preferred an anthology series.[/sp]
I'm watching the first episode, I'm really liking this so far. It's very well shot, I like these child actors alot, especially since they act like little bastards who swear and shittalk instead of the idealized kids you usually get in movies and tv. And I am just absolutely loving that 80s-90s nostalgia with the wood paneled walls and those old ass TVs, mmm
The bit when the cover of Heroes plays was fucking great. [sp] I also think that the quality dropped off a bit in the last 2 episodes, but regardless I still think the show was great.[/sp]
At First I thought the wrist rocket knocked it back that far after hitting it in its mouth and if that was true then it would have been really stupid, glad that wasnt it.
Also no way 11 is dead.
I was looking for this thread a few days ago.
How did you guys interpret the ending? [sp]To me it seemed more like the alternate universe was actually them going into the future rather than an alternate reality. That the ending was just tying it in to a loop[/sp]
[sp]I'm wondering what happened to Hop when he entered that car in the last episode[/sp]
I watched the first episode of this and I really can't get into it. should I keep trying with a few more episodes in case it's one of those things that take a while to hook you?

I feel like if the first episode didn't get you then the rest probably won't do it for you either.
no cure for bad taste
Just finished it. The first 2 episodes I was thinking it is a well-made show but after that it picks up incredibly and turns into an amazing show.

[sp]The problem for me was the deaths didn't really serve any kind of purpose. The Chef's was to show how the government agents were willing to kill anyone to prevent the information from getting out, then they proceeded to never be close to that dangerous again.
With Barbs it's like the story completely forgot about her. Basically nobody cares besides Nancy, and even she drops off that subplot towards the end. The reveal of her death was almost comedic in how much no one gave a shit.
I liked the show, but really felt like it suffered from a Twin Peak's kind of mistake in the second half. Revealing all the mysteries too soon, and showing the monster far too often.[/sp]

[sp]I certainly think the shows biggest mistake was showing the monster as much as it did, and showing how Eleven had created the door way so early specifically felt like a really bad decision.
Barbs death was weird, we knew she died right away, but the whole show kind of forgets to do anything with that besides torture Nancy which it doesn't even really do a lot of. I think they should have at least done something with the police investigation there, but I guess the implication is that the government just did their best to cover that part of it up.
I think they wanted to show the government as unrelenting and willing to go to any lengths by killing Benny so quickly, but it is odd how they never really return to that level of danger again. What that makes me think is that the show runners used that early to get the hook in and just leave it as a foreboding feeling, but it probably should have had another reminder later on. [/sp]

To be honest the first episode left me curious but I didn't really get hooked into the show until like ep3
Just finished it a few hours ago. Really enjoyed it, quite refreshing to have a show of this quality with this subject matter. I felt the last episode to be a little lacklustre though, specifically [sp]how little we got to see of the upside down, the main baddie's death and the monster's death.[/sp]
[sp]the upside down was so boring, it's literally just the normal world but dirtier[/sp]
[editline]6th August 2016[/editline]
[sp]I've seen zelda dark worlds that are more interesting alternate realities[/sp]
watched the entire season, loved it.
my favorite thing about the show is that each character has a certain charm or uniqueness to them. their relations with each other become more believable with each episode if they aren't already, and some of it is just quite adorable [sp]mike and eleven[/sp]
I was really surprised that every characters was interesting and had something likeable about them. This is pretty rare with new shows imo. Also liked how [sp]Nancy and Jonathan DIDN'T hook up, and she actually stayed with the douchebag. I was expecting the classic and overused "good guy gets the girl in the end", though I am pretty sure it will happen the next season. [/sp]
