[sp]So, the upside down world is supposed to look all sticky and musty and shit absolutely everywhere, right?[/sp]
If so, what the fuck would outer space look like?
I keep imagining that it's more like a window into the future. More so with the details they showed at the end of the series.
in my mind its like the ghost dimension from poltergeist which i feel the show draws heavy inspiration from
the thing it reminded me most of was the dark world from a link to the past
Can we just agree that [sp]"the upside-down" is a fucking fantastic name for the shadow world[/sp]

Eleven flipping the board was one of the most clever things in the whole show
[sp]the scene where they fish up "will's body" from the lake with the kids watching is probably the best scene I've ever witnessed. The music fits perfectly, the pacing, the hysterics of joyce with the police close behind, mike arriving home, everything[/sp]
I also think the actor playing Lucas played the scene [sp]behind the fire truck[/sp] very well
I actually started to cry during that scene

Im still calling it the Dark World :v:
[sp] they both have weird ass faces [/sp]
I kept thinking of Johnathan as a weird mini Norman Reedus. :v:
Anyway, I just finished the show. Has some downfalls for sure, but it was certainly an entertaining ~8 hours.
I just finished the show, one of the better series I've seen in a while (Or maybe I just don't watch TV much). Gonna leave a bit of a dump comment, since I watched it mostly all at once, so spoiler warning for the first season:
[sp]1.) It was a parallel universe, but is it the only one? What happened to that timeline? I feel like it's mainly that fungus-like stuff that's taken over the earth (and maybe the monster is fungal? Fungus scares the shit out of me), but I wonder if maybe there's something more, like maybe something impacted the earth and knocked it out of orbit or something, hence the eternal night and the alien life. the fucking library scene in the end was so creepy, with all the corpses and shit.
2.) Damn, I wish they hadn't killed off Barb. I know sometimes you have to kill characters to establish danger, but... I almost kind of hope she survives. She's probably fucked if she does though.
3.) I wonder if those things they point out in the D&D session at the end are going to be future plot hooks - the thing at the start of this season with the demogorgon vaguely paralleled this season's monster. I hear they're returning to Hawkins with the same cast for the next season though, so it may just be a continuation of the first season
4.) What the hell happened to Eleven in the end? I think Hopper is giving her food in that box, but... the shadow world isn't very hospitable to human life. I also think that maybe the monster isn't strictly... killable, or physical, or something. Gunfire did nothing to it, so I wonder if it plays by different laws of physics? Aside from being able to swap between realities, anyway.
5.) I wish my damn science teacher in middle school was as cool as their science teacher.
6.) I thought Steve was going to end up being the usual asshole jock kind of guy (and I fully expected his leg to get caught in that bear trap in the house) but he actually developed a bit as a character and ended up not being so shitty, which was nice.
7.) The scene near the end with the fucking government woman and the others getting their brains turned to mush... such sweet fucking justice.[/sp]
Also, I didn't realize this until I looked her up, but Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers) is the one who played Lydia Deetz in Beetlejuice.
Just finished the first season, man that was good. I haven't wanted to binge a show so much in a while.

I'm really surprised nobody has compared it to [sp]Silent Hill, especially with the fog, cool color palette, and the monster.[/sp]

Oh there was definitely times I thought of that. This series is unique

That's the first thing that popped into my head as soon as they revealed there was an [sp]Upside Down[/sp]. If it was a nod, I think they handled it very well.

I thought about [sp]silent hill when they were talking through the town streets. Really I loved the atmosphere of the upside down[/sp].
My brother just got me to make one of those GIFs of the lights that said "Be sure to drink your Ovaltine". Amazing.
Also, I think this is my favourite Netflix series of all of them.

That sounds like something I'd like to see. :v:

I'm glad I'm not the only person who thought this.
On a separate note, hopefully they get better with their car selection next season, that reoccurring background Ford Festiva was driving me nuts. That and Barb's cabrio(let), with it's 4 light grille and aftermarket plastic euro bumpers that weren't even a thought in someone's head at Volkswagen in 1983... [sp]not that it will be a problem next season[/sp]

Me too, even though I don't think I got anything to play VHS on anymore. Just to have it sitting there, for me to look at.

but the torn & bruised aesthetic gives it a "this vhs tape has been a member of the family for generations" feel
