Wow, a full season on one VHS? [sp]I'm assuming there's a BR hidden in there or something[/sp]
it's a fan project, dunno if there are even vhs tapes long enough for an entire season of anything http://www.cnet.com/pictures/modern-movies-vhs-box-art-iamsteelberg/

I think this could happen!
im sorry but what kind of elitist crap is that
no elitism just facts
[sp]Why didn't Eleven just straight up kill the monster instead of just ambiguously disappearing? The government guys shot the other monster to death, they can be killed by regular means.[/sp]
no elitism just facts
how is that a fact? tastes change and evolve if someone doesn't like something even if it is objectively good and well made they probably don't know what to look for that makes something great, which can be improved upon. for example children usually have shitty taste, but that changes with experience and understanding. and there is no age limit to it. saying that there is "no cure for bad taste" is just sounds like a way of trying - and subsequently failing - to sound superior.

It then bursts through the door after it's done killing all the guards and we have the climactic scene with the slingshot and Eleven. No other monsters of this kind have been implied to exist, ignoring the egg in the forest. If there was more than one, I'm pretty sure it would have come up as a plot point[/sp]

It is pretty difficult to tell what's going on when the entire screen is flashing obnoxiously. I didn't like that, I wish the lightning to [sp]mask their obvious cg monster[/sp] was more clever, I think that was just lazy.

Netflix's budget can't be that high, so I'll pardon them for that, especially considering how good the other parts of the series are. [sp]There was some really conspicuous CG parts where someone's hand brushed the rift-goo in Hawkins Lab and it bugged me but I rationalized it in-context as being something that plays by another universe's rules... silly as that may sound[/sp]

I wonder why the CG was so shit at certain parts.
Actually, certain Netflix series can be quite costly. Luckily this show is neither of those so id bet you anything that S2 will be higher budget.
Really lovely show. Brought back a lot of memories from my own childhood. Hope there will be a season 2.

The monster wasn't eating people, it was using them to incubate and hatch offspring. I'm really interested to see what they do with this in Season 2, especially with the big hint at the end that Eleven may still live.[/sp] Honestly the best show I've seen in ages. [editline]22nd August 2016[/editline]
Really lovely show. Brought back a lot of memories from my own childhood. Hope there will be a season 2.
There were so many cool little easter eggs and references! The movie posters in the backgrounds of so many of the scenes were especially rad. It was a deeply nostalgic experience all around. Stranger Thigns brought me back to my childhood, staying up all night pounding through Stephen King novels. Speaking of, if ya'll liked Stranger Things, read Stephen King's Firestarter and It if you haven't already. Both served as glaring sources of inspiration for Stranger Things. Firestarter is a story about a man with the ability to psychically influence people (think Kilgrave, from Jessica Jones) and his young daughter with pyrokinetic abilities. Both are trying to escape the shady government agency that created them in a university drug experiment. It's a fantastic read, and a very quick one. The agency in Stranger Things is extremely reminiscent of the one in Firestarter, and so are some of the struggles of Elle and those experienced by the protagonists of the book, including [sp] the imprisonment of both young female characters, the experimentation and testing they are put through to explore and grow their powers, and associating nosebleeds with the use of her powers.[/sp] It is a book that just about everybody has heard of. An extradimensional entity returns to the small town of Derry once every generation to feed on children. A young group of social outcasts discover the existence of this entity and scramble to find a way to defeat it. Obviously another huge source of inspiration for Stranger Things, not only for the monster itself, but for the social dynamics between the main characters. In both, they even try [sp]killing the monster with a slingshot.[/sp]

Was awesome to see the show capture that.

Finished watching, hella good. [sp]Rip barb, I think people saying nancy just forgets her best friend dies, but nancy is pretty much utterly distraught until she starts to get a grip on the situation. I'm fairly sure nancy knows barb is dead around when she sees the photos of the monster, and her grief manifests as revenge. It's a little underdramatised but honestly it makes sense. I really like upside down, it's an awesome environment but tbh the Alien "twist" was a bit lame. I would have been fine with it eating people and laying eggs but going for a literally facehugger just seems silly (the tie in with the respirator in the hospital was a nice bit of writing though) Eleven sacrificing herself was not even close to a surprise sadly. I also kinda have to question the toughness of the creature, it loses a foot to a bear trap and gets the shit beaten out of it and takes some visible damage, but SMGs don't do anything? I can accept that it's like a fungus so projectile weapons don't really do much since it has no "organs" but there's better ways to write this than just making it tank 200+ bullets, make it pick the guards off or something. The other problem with the toughness is why does it behave as it does? If the creature literally can't be killed by conventional means why should it only prey on the weak, injured and isolated. There's no reason it couldn't take on groups. Basically to justify it's behaviour it should have been as strong as a human at best, not ridiculously unkillable. I appreciate that it needs to be a threat but the creature can teleport and is as smart as a person so there's no reason to make it invincible. It just jostles me.[/sp] anyhow those are tiny gripes, I loved it. Really looking forward to season 2. [sp]I think hopper got hired at the end. He's good SCP Agent material.[/sp]
I guess I have to agree with RLM (big surprise) that it's good because it's not hitting you over the head with 80's references so much as it is an homage to certain movies. The kids were hilarious and possibly my favorite part.
Honestly I didn't notice the poor quallity of the [sp]cgi monster-man[/sp], but it really did bother me how the light kept flashing during the [sp]final showdown between him and eleven[/sp], I'd rather just see the poor [SP]CGI[/SP] Also it's dumb, but the whole time I was thinking when they started calling [sp]Eleven "El" instead, they should've called her Evelyn(Evelen)[/sp] it just felt so obvious.

My sister recommended this show, I thought it was just another average show that I would lose interest in fast. I finally got myself to watch it yesterday, and I finished watching the entire season at 8pm. One of the best shows I've ever seen. Can't fucking wait for season 2! :godzing: Just had to post it here.
So instead of waiting years for the Blu Ray I simply decided to start the free month trial on Netflix. I am watching the show right now!

I also keep forgetting this takes place in 83 and joker would only be in his 40s at the absolute oldest, so it doesn't work at all.
3 new characters for s2:
Max is a tough and confident 13-year-old female whose appearance, behavior and pursuits are more typical of boys than of girls in the era. She has a complicated history and a difficult relationship with her stepbrother, Billy, that's made her protective of her past and generally suspicious of those around her. She's also good on a skateboard, which she uses to get around pretty much everywhere. Billy is a super muscular, overconfident 17-year-old. He's so captivating and edgy that there are rumors flying around that he killed someone at a school he attended in the past. Billy steals peoples' girlfriends, is a drinking-game pro and drives a black Camaro. But his violent and unpredictable nature shows itself to those closest to him, especially to ones who are younger than he is. Roman, meanwhile, is described as a male or a female of any ethnicity between the ages of 30 and 38. After growing up homeless with a drug-addicted mother, he or she suffered a great loss at an early age and has been seeking revenge ever since. Roman is ultimately an outsider who doesn't understand how to connect with people.
Source.
Honestly, I'm only surprised that there isn't a writer character yet. Given how much the series draws inspiration from Stephen King, and the fact that Stephen King has an author as one of the main protagonists in, like, 80% of his books... The show handles all the classic archetypes very well, though, and the tomboy is a major one. Besides which, it was a favored archetype of Stephen King (primary source of inspiration for this series), as seen in characters like Beverly Marsh (It) or Cynthia Smith (Rose Madder, Desperation). Great characters, and a really fun archetype to work with, in the right hands. One of my favorites, tbh. Arya Stark from Game of Thrones, for example, fits solidly into the tomboy role, and her character has had one of the most consistently engaging storylines in the series imo. Same goes for Khutulun, from Marco Polo. It can be handled very poorly, sure, but automatically writing a show off for including a tomboy character is very silly.
Can't wait for season 2, gonna be awesome :joy:

Maybe he/she's supposed to be some kind of mysterious character or something?
