Just finished watching this, my only real complaint is [sp]the monster is CGI, if it was puppetry or even stop motion or something it would have fit a lot better with that 80's theme.
Also I'm guessing the upside-down is an alternative dimension where earth was invaded by something alien War of The Worlds style via red plants (or in this case gooey veiny plants).
I have a feeling 11 has a closer tie to the upside-down then "her mother took a shit ton of LSD while pregnant and now she can cross dimensions". I hope that gets expanded on in the second season.[/sp]

I made a tribute/recapilutation of the first ep with my original song, what do you say, I think it turned out great.
I went to a convention today and saw two (unrelated) Eleven cosplays within seconds of each other - one was a girl who had the look with the wig and the blue jacket down spot-on, the other was a guy in his late 30s.
Both of them I only noticed because of the fake nosebleed :v:
I'm annoyed, eleven and hopper will be at nycc on a day that I won't be there. They're imo the best characters on the whole show.

Finished it up just now. Brilliant show, loved all the Stephen King book references. The writers really knew their stuff, like there were references to It (kind of obvious), Firestarter [sp]the references to LSD experiments, which were real, but they were also the source of the telekenisis and then passed on as pyrokenisis[/sp], The Mist [sp]trans-dimensional experiments, the demagorgon[/sp], The Body/Stand By Me (also kind of obvious), and Cujo (well, all the Castle Rock books, since the town has that kind of vibe as well as Hopper being very similar to George Bannerman/Alan Pangborn).
I can't wait for the second season.

I recently watched Ascension two days ago and it was a bit similar to Stranger Things (good story, sci-fi and horror, good characters, etc).

I thought it was tied up. Only a handful of people know she died. The rest of the town thinks she ran away.
I see no reason, other than Nancy/friends/family mourning over her death/running away. And maybe a couple of flashback attempts trying to locate Barb via cops/family.
They shouldn't let the internet dictate their story like that. [/sp]

It's kind of a shame that not a whole lot of people seem to recall [sp]Benny Hammond[/sp].
Then again, [sp]He was only alive for like one episode, so I guess it's not as surprising that he's not brought up as much[/sp]

[sp]Benny Hammond was somehow one of my favorite characters in the show, despite his like 5-10 minutes of screen time. Introducing him and then killing him off was unrealistically effective in making me hate Brenner and Frazier[/sp]
It certainly helped that the actor is also Cleary in The Knick, which made it real easy for me to get attached.

[sp]It was ballsy to catch and release Hopper, but there were pros and cons to it. Unlike Barb or Benny, Hopper had time to prepare. They had no idea whether Hopper had told anyone about his breaking and entering plan. They figured it would be easier to set Hopper free and then deny whatever he said as insanity. It's not like Hopper could go around saying things like "I beat up a trooper, chopped up a corpse and broke into a government facility."[/sp]
[sp]Note that their strategy paid off big time. Hopper helped them cover up all the deaths and recover Eleven. He probably got hired at the end of the season.[/sp]
