- Tessa is a bit whiny by the time she gets involved. The scene with the anchors makes her feel like Willie from Temple of Doom
That's actually a really good connection you made. Now that I think of it, the anchor scene with how Tessa reacts is exactly how Willie acted when Indy and Shorty were in the spike chamber.
But really I'm glad a lot of people are enjoying it more than the rest. Blu ray/DVD release is already being announced too.

Also, Transformers: Age of Extinction brought "$41.6 million Stateside on Friday, the biggest opening day of the year." They're estimating $104 million over the weekend too.

This is a good direction that the Transformers franchise is going, I think. I hope Michael Bay doesn't fuck it up again.
I agree with a lot that has been said as far as the positive and negative criticisms. The human protagonists were more likable- well, Mark Wahlberg was- Tessa annoyed me because she was just another of Michael Bay's Victoria's Secret archetypes and her boyfriend was kind of there with very little to make him interesting. The new Autobots were interesting too with Hound easily taking the cake. Crossfire being a bit of a dick was a nice touch; I mean, given all that's happen I'd find it odd if Prime was the only one having second thoughts about helping humans. I really hope the human and Autobot cast remains consistent through the next films. The Yeager Family, Tessa's boyfriend, and even Stanley Tucci's character seeing them grow as characters would be nice. Likewise with the Autobot cast. Add more (or bring back ones from the second and third that were briefly shown), at some point; but keep this as the core cast [sp](As a side note, it was pretty hard to watch Ratchet's death. The fact he's one of the original group and the way he begged to live. It was great, too, that Yeager suffered loss with the death of his friend)[/sp]. Admittedly there were times where I wondered what the Sam and Agent Simmons were doing throughout all this.
Now, my hopes and possibilities for the future:
Go to space- Seeing as we're heading to more otherworldly grounds with all the [sp]Creator[/sp] talk and [sp]Optimus flying off into space[/sp] why not start moving out into the universe maybe even truly visiting Cybertron or another Transformer world.
Build up to Unicron- if this is to be a new trilogy, I personally believe it should also be the end. That being said; after the next film, which would dwell more into [sp]the creators[/sp] I think the best way to end the series and top all the other films is bring in the biggest bad in the universe: Unicron.
Introduce Rodimus Prime- I'm going off the notion of what Michael Bay said early into development: This is the start of a new trilogy; and my own belief that this is going toward the end of the Transformers movie franchise. Thus at some point they could start building up to a new era of Primes- since Optimus won't be around forever. Rodimus could be a brotherly like character to Bumblebee and an interesting foil to Tessa's boyfriend as he earns Yeager's trust to be accepted as part of the family. Both brash, young and arrogant. But soon realize the duties they have and the burden they have to bear for the things they care about.
Crossfire as a Traitor- Maybe not outright, but seeing as Crossfire has waning loyalties to humans and even Prime, it might be an interesting plotline where Crossfire opposes the Autobots. Perhaps not so much that he wants to kill the Autobots but believes in a different path in accomplishing the same task.
Unite the Autobots and Decepticons- Whatever big calamity they have in store for the sequels, we must assume it's bigger than what we've seen in the previous films thus far. It'd be great to see this big bad become so big and SO BAD that Optimus unites the Autobots and Decepticons to fight by his side.
Epps and Lennox- With a lot of humans hating on the Transformers, they know they still have some allies. Epps and Lennox would add some human muscle to the team, again. It'd make the human's advantage against the evil Transformers a little more believable rather than continuous dumb luck.
the movie was bettter than the second and third one.
but it was too long and too loud.
i dont know if it was the theater i was in that caused the loudness but eh.
i'm still recovering from loud everything (i dont like loud shit at all because it puts alot of stress on my brain). the whole last hour is dedicated to it.
the writing is dumb but i loved the action so whatever
dinobots were cool too
also since this is my first time in the thread, i dont know if anyone linked this but it's the greatest thing i ever read about the transformers trilogy:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/210677266/I-actually-kind-of-appreciate-the-Transformers-movies
i've not read the entire thing yet but he is right about blackout's attack in the first film, it really is one of the best parts of the whole trilogy
it's also possibly the only part of the film where baysplosions are really allowed

i always loved the part where you hear the classical transforming sound effect (just after the rotors go down and the camera pans behind the tank)

I went in for explosions and giant robots. I got explosions and giant robots.
Having that said, everything else was as bad as always, human element sucks dick, too much of it too. Product placement is obnoxious. Story reaches critical levels of stupid at certain times. But eye-candy was good and it was all I wanted from that movie.
EDIT:Nevermind, there's no aftercredits. Should have done google before listening to troll rumours. Kind of glad, because I hate the stupid after-credit trend, but that's mostly done by marvel with their super-hero movies.
The plot was dumb as hell and the dialogue, characters were stupid. But overall i enjoyed it. I think they forgot to edit the movie though, 3 hours is a bit much.
Y'know, for the sake of discovery, why hate Bay? He doesn't make the worst films in Hollywood, nor is he the best (Bad Boys II is a example of a good Bay film). Sometimes I don't get the hate he and his fans get when a TF film comes out. Sure they're not the best, and they STILL need some things to over in the next film like more TF melee action, 'Bot screentime, and a competent writer. I have a guilty pleasure of enjoying these films, but I'm getting tired and sick of us enjoying a film he makes and being called 'cancer' by 90% of the internet(go to The FP 'Rate the last movie you watched' thread second to last page for an example of that. UGH). It's really hard to explain this a bit, but here's a video that should explain it further:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/the-big-picture/9491-Leave-Michael-Bay-Alone
I understand. I think TF4 is one of the better Bay films and people need to give it a chance.
Anyways, the score for the film just got released.

TF4 is one of the better TF films
but it's still awful
respectively, the order would go
TF1>4=3>2
On Monday the weather sucked so we decided to go see TF4. I made my opinion on TF movies pretty clear so before I get into TF4 I'd like to point out that my 12-year-old brother walked out disappointed and done with TF movies.
Where to begin... The technical stuff. It seemed like some scenes were cut too quickly while some scene could have been cut out completely. The robot effects looked very poor at times, especially with the new robot Drift and [sp]Galvatron[/sp]. All the action scenes before the finale were extremely flaccid and finished very quickly, half of the finale is robots shooting at each other with guns. You know... when someone says giant robots I so want to see long shootouts. Seriously, fuck anyone who says the Autobots get more screentime. That is such a load of bullshit, humans were once again the focus. Big focus, too. Oh, what's that... Dinobots? Let's use them for 5 minutes total.
I really didn't enjoy the edgier tone of the remaining Autobots, especially Bumblebee and Optimus were too pissed for my taste. I guess they had their reasons but these movies try to be too dark and it leaves bad taste in my mouth. Then we get to the human characters, oh boy. I'm not a fan of Mark Wahlberg and I don't think he's an amazing actor. He's probably the worst possible choice for this role and the role itself is three different characters. He's supposed to be irresponsible robot maker, overprotective father and muscular guy who's not afraid of killing aliens. All this with a beautiful pube beard. Maybe you can write a character like that but here Marky Mark goes from one to another depending on the scene and what it needs. The daughter left no impression on me but the boyfriend kept switching from daredevil to total pussy I started to wonder if he had mental issues.
The only thing I liked a bit was the final fight [sp]between Optimus and Lockdown, I liked how Prime and humans fought the same enemy. That is before they almost start to argue whose fight is it and Marky Mark's parrying Lockdown's blows. The fuck?[/sp]
Also Hound was pretty cool but if Ironhide was still around I could see him fill the same shoes.
I saw this last night and I enjoyed it.
It had explosions and a big scale that delivered. I remember when watching 2 (I've not seen 3, apparently Chicago got attacked) that it was sometimes hard to follow exactly what was happening in action scenes, and that the Transformers seemed to consist of flashes of light more than actual Robots. This has been rectified and you can follow the fights with ease.
The film felt like it needed an edit to sort its pacing out. The only reason I knew I wasn't in the final act was because the Dinosaurs hadn't shown up yet. That said, the Dinosaurs weren't about long enough. Apparently they were just "always there", they showed up specifically to tag-team with the Autobots and then they left. The effects were pretty solid, but the new Transformers looked really really poor when they were actually transforming.
Still, 9/10 if you want a good film to switch off too. If you don't, why are you watching it?
So I'm in Canada and saw it again. This time though, in a DBOX theater. Holy shit. DBOX offers only select movies because the seats move and vibrate. It's like a 3 hour roller coaster. When they were flying in Chicago, the seats were revolving and tilting then vibrated whenever they shot guns, it was amazing.
http://www.d-box.com/en/consumer/about
Like I mean holy shit. It was a totally different experience than any other theater I had ever gone to. IMO, beats IMAX.
I really like the music Jablonsky composes for these movies.

wish the soundtrack got available sooner.
that's a weird way to spell CGI
the major difference being that so far the music hasn't been messy and overdesigned
like a zimmer score
Funny enough, Jablonsky was a pupil of Zimmer and Zimmer did help with the soundtrack of this film.

Might as well put in the full piece

Well, just got back from AOE in IMAX and boy what a trip! The only film gripes is that the beginning feels VERY slow when you come in and expect action right away along with it's almost 3hr running time. [sp]The "laminated Romeo and Juliet law" scene had me cringing; not because Tessa was 3 years younger than Shane in-story(she was 17 and he was 20, but Nicola herself is 19), but how they made such a big damn deal about it. I know technically she's a minor, but 3-years isn't that much of a gap. Stanley Tucci is fun to balance out CIA agent "Sideshow Harold" for the human baddies.[/sp] Bingbing was also some fun to keep Tucci on serious ground when something important came around. Lockdown was a great villain! Everything he did pretty much made this film. Along with that, the climax is wonderful once you finally get there. [sp]Galvatron was alright, but his little screen time and his small battle with Prime didn't do much for him besides bring him back from the scrapheap.[/sp] I still enjoyed this film, despite it's really stupid moments I might have forgotten. Hopefully the Blu-Ray release isn't too far ahead.
7/10.
PS. The nearly noticable fight between Prime and Galvatron got me and idea that involves a whole lot of Transformers SFM videos featuring our favorite characters and nothing but action. Who's with me? :D
^might want to spoiler some of that, just in case.
also, i just purchased the complete series of beast wars and armada. my childhood/early teen years have been safely secured.
I haven't watched the Age of Extinction, but I am watching the G1 series right now.
I found the Film to be too long, forced comedy and just well, to some extent, boring and repetitive.
i've not read the entire thing yet but he is right about blackout's attack in the first film, it really is one of the best parts of the whole trilogy

After thinking for a bit about why this scene is so great, I think it's due to the "unknown" element that the movie had due to being an new story. A ("prepared") army base was up against an unknown enemy with overwhelming firepower and resistances. This allowed for some build-up, tension, mystery and a paced action sequence. You know, things escalating at a reasonable speed. Not 150% force in five seconds like they have done in recent films to keep us interested due to us knowing the strength of the transformers already.
Before we depart this thread some things I want to give out:
1. Tf4 toy sales are doing terrible. People are buying the more complex TF figures for the older generation, but the numbers for the movie toys designed for younger kids are horrendous. The tons of cash poured into the movie-line doesn't help. It's been said that the decline and loss of toy income is evidence pointing to "the end of the action figure"(Which is complete crap imo). Here's to hoping next year pulls Hasbro out of the quick sand with the new toylines.
2. I'm having a dedicated thread to getting Transformers models from different games into Source. We are looking for supporters to get more popular characters and props out to people so that they can be used for some epic gmod/SFM videos. Link to thread: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1317412
I'm honestly not surprised about the TF4 toy sales being terrible, especially since they lack the care and attention that were put into the ROTF and DOTM (mostly) toylines.
It's a shame too, since some really cool things could have been done.
But no Leader/Voyager Lockdown, seriously?

They could have made an epic leader Optimus or something with the knight theme. Instead we got Power Battlers and One steps for toddlers.
But hey, at least by the end of this year or beginning of 2015 we may FINALLY get a good Generations Leader Megatron figure:

TF4 has hit 1 Billion dollars.
