The entire movie is about Unicron transforming.
The other movies weren't really [I]that[/I] bad. I mean, they weren't that good either, but they were decent mindless actions flicks that were sprinkled with explosions and drama for the viewers who may not have cared about Transformers to begin with. You have to remember that movies like these are built to entertain kids and parents on top of the hardcore nerdes who grew up with Tranformers and sometimes, almost always really, one or more of those groups gets alienated. It's a hard mix to pull off.
I liked the first one, the second was alright and the third was probably the worst of the three, but I have pretty high hopes for number four. A new cast and a new plot seems like just what the series needs. It felt like the other movies were never meant to have gone past two, and even two seemed a bit shoehorned.
So, basically, this can either follow the story of the first three as well as its quality pattern and not be very good, or they can sort of treat it as a reboot/continuation and drop the previous story for a new one, set after the events of the first three movies.
I'm hoping for the latter, but you never know. Marky Mark as the lead could be neat, though.

Hell no, they're extremely entertaining movies, and they're ridiculously well made to that end, nowhere else will you see CGI that looks so convincing regarding something as ridiculous as nice cars transforming into large robots and fighting. It's an amazing spectacle, and the only real complaint anyone ever has is the human parts and the plot itself, neither of which are even that hard to fix, or even look past in favor of being entertained. Anyone who watches the movies and honestly hates them is likely missing the point, and I don't see why everyone feels that all films should uphold the same standard universally. Some movies in the general film market already prioritize certain aspects of the film over others, and such can work very well if done correctly, and I feel Transformers does the CGI and actual Transformers stuff pretty fucking well, so what's the problem?
I still remember going into the theater and watching Optimus transform for the very first time.

They're filming a lot of the scenes at my work. As I'm typing this off my phone they just filmed a car chase scene. Earlier they totaled a car on accident and tomorrow they're throwing a car out of a 5th story window

my co-worker and i were discussing our thoughts of what they should do for this new trilogy
i think unicron should be a constant antagonist across the three films, and have decepticons working for him, it would be a great way to bring in more guys from the shows like thrust and sideways, and then the final film should just be a giant transformers battle on the remains of cybertron against unicron.
basically, they should just adapt transformers armada.

Yes please. While I like the movies for their mindless summer action value, I think I actually enjoy all the footage that comes from the real stunts they do to film the action scenes. I take in every bit of that BTS footage I can get.
