So, after a short talk with a friend about how RomComs are basically taking porn plots and rolling with them in a PG way, I off-hand said that at least hentai has both the porn and the plot.
And that made me realize, that I can't really think of a single hentai that actually has good plot that isn't only enjoyable because it's ridiculously dumb. Surely there must be at least one out there that's worth watching for the plot?

the problem with hentai in particular is that they need to have the person watching bust a nut, so they have to devote a good chunk of time to fucking. because of this the plot becomes secondary and any plot that does exist has to be rushed because what normally would take about 30 seconds in an ecchi anime has to take at minimum 10 minutes
on top of that I'm pretty sure the budget for most hentai is a six pack of kirin and 200 yen to cover materials. somehow even with immaculate source material they inevitably manage to fuck it up

I've been watching Fate: Apocrypha (for Astolfo), and while I can really appreciate the waifu of the season, this show doesn't seem to be very good. I'm only 4 episodes in, but I am having my doubts. The characters are so inconsistent and confusing. I've never seen a Fate series before, but this show seems to be either assuming I already know the rules from other Fate stuff, or it's just making them up as it goes along. Does this actually get better later? I know 24 episode seasons can be a bit of a slow boil, but I'm not quite sure a few good character designs and an intriguing premise make up for a (so far) really confusing plot.

No the show does not get better, it's a burning dumpster fire that should not be consumed by anyone. It's one of the worst anime I've ever seen, based off a shitty, fanfiction tier light novel that also sucked dick.
I can't watch more after episode 5. Feel free to spoiler tag but i want to know what's so special about Astolfo aside his appearance, like does he do anything special? He is actually a likeable character? I see his fanart everywhere and i can see people liking his design (although i'm pretty sure if he was a girl, there'd be less fanart) I initially watched for Saber of Red and the cool master but that's it.
There is absolutely nothing special about Astolfo. He is the most bottom of the barrel, lowest common denominator, easy appeal overdesigned girl ever created, but because he's actually a dude people can't get enough of him for some reason.
It's not like he even has a personality to fall back on. He doesn't. Like every Apocrypha character that isn't Mordred and her Master, really.
Also, no, Apocrypha actually does not expect you to know about the rules of Fate in advance - because anyone who does will instantly know how seriously off the fucking rails it goes from the very start with the rules of the Grail War. In literally any other Fate series ever, this war would never fucking happen because [I]the Grail has no such fucking thing as a failsafe for if every Master happened to be colluding that forces it to summon an additional team of Servants and assign them to additional Masters to make it a two team war[/I]. Along with many other ballbustingly stupid mockeries of the Grail War mechanics.

Without knowing the rules of Fate, I already saw a few problems with a lot of "rules" the show follows. For instance, a bunch of things in Ep4 confused me, like [sp]Astolfo loses a fight with Siegfried literally offscreen, yet earlier Siegfried couldn't beat Achilles even with Frankenstein's help. Does this mean Astolfo would get absolutely splattered by Achilles if he tried to fight him himself? Logically, it should be yes, but it feels like that show just makes stuff up as he goes along. How powerful are the characters meant to be, relative to each other? What about Siegfried's master? Why was he able to force Siegfried, against his will, to use his ultimate attack thingy, but later on, Siegfried just flatly disobeys him and shoves him aside. Then there's a homunculus guy himself. Why does Astolfo care about him so much (to the point where he'd literally rebel against the rest of his faction just to save him)? Why does Jeanne? Why does Siegfried, to the point where he literally rips his heart out to give to him, which kills him, but not before giving a long monologue on why he's such an awful, irredeemable douche for saving the life of someone completely defenceless? Why was the homunculus even able to do the magic punch thing, when earlier he couldn't even walk? The show just seems to be questions that probably won't get answered[/sp]

I got suckered in because of the fanart. There's a lot (a lot) and it's quite good.
Some others like his personality, and in terms of the story, he's a pretty important character who's given a lot of screentime, especially when compared to Felix, who has like 5 lines of dialogue in the whole season.
