Just trucked through the Golden Age berserk films, definitely cool shit and even knowing the act 3 twist it was pretty gripping
Yuru Camp OP song SHINY DAYS sounds like a Jackson 5 song at points and I love it.
Super comfy feeling still after 2 episodes, and that sight gag with [sp]the two dogs on leashes[/sp] made me bust a gut laughing.
With the thread going as slow as it is nowadays, how did you miss 3 posts with videos about this ~2 pages ago (on the day it actually aired).
[editline]12th January 2018[/editline]
But yeah, the show is comfy and the OP is nice (even tho it's clearly ripping off Jackson 5).
whats good this season?
Wait until everything is out and hit three episodes. As is the only guaranteed good pick is Devilman Crybaby.
should i read berserk or watch the 97 anime? i really don't feel the flow of manga (reading jojo was an absolute pain sometimes despite the really good material and it really threw me off) and i don't want to force myself to do it but everyone says the anime is so-so and the manga is godlike
There are drawbacks to every adaptation.
The 97 anime is the most complete adaptation so far, as far as retaining as much story material as possible. Downsides are that it feels like it's missing one episode at the very end, and obviously the artwork will never look as good as the manga did. No adaptation ever will really, so this downside applies to all adaptations. Miura is a great illustrator, so you'll always get the best quality art from the manga.
The movie trilogy abridges chunks of the story and cuts out some side plots, but looks overall better than the 97 anime (apart from some awkward use of CGI). It honestly works better as fanservice to people who are already familiar with the story, because it's a neat way to re-experience things you already know. Or if you're just not that into Berserk but you still want to know the general basics of the story.
The 2016/2017 series covers later story material that had not previously been touched by any anime, but it is godawful in pretty much every other department.
The first 14 volumes or so of the manga are the Golden Age arc, which the first two anime adaptations covered, and that arc is what most people talk about and care about. The manga will always be the most complete experience, but it's up to you if you want to stick it out for at least that long.
Just finished watching Death Parade and Death Billiards. It was amazing.
Nine episodes in, I wasn't sure if the series was going anywhere. It had the potential to be really deep and spiritual, but I wasn't sure if I had seen everything the series was going to offer on that level.
And then the last 3 episodes absolutely blew me away. Absolutely fantastic ending, I cried for real.
Great themes and spiritual issues carried by well-defined and memorable characters. I'll remember this one as one of the best short series I've ever seen.
[sp]I've not yet watched the series, but I remember reading somewhere when the show was first announced that she was an automaton so I guess it's no surprise?[/sp]
Violet Evergarden
[Sp]I think it's quite clear that she's a human, and now has "cybernetic" prosthetics since she lost her arms in the war. We are shown a clip of her bloodied and her arm falling off, and she has a facewound. It seemed quite clear to me that she's actually a human.[/sp]
Finished GLT
I cried
10/10
now to read the manga
word of advice for those asking what's good this season at the start of the season. there are still shows that haven't aired yet and many shows have at most only 2 episodes out. the answer to what's good is "we don't know yet"
It's not that there weren't any good first episodes and people don't want to tell you, but a show can have a strong start and end up going downhill as it goes on, a show with a weak start could become hype as it goes on, so people here won't be able to give you an accurate recommendation until much later in the season.
So how do you choose what to watch?
1. ask about non airing shows, someone here has probably seen it and willing to tell you if it's good or not
2. is there a sequel to something you watched? if so you can watch that
3. did you read the source material of the anime (assuming it's an adaptation)? if you liked it that's a safe option (and you can complain to FA about how much they ruined the story)
4.go to anichart.net and read the synopsis of all the airing shows and see if one of them piques your interest and try it of one does.watching the first episode won't kill you.
killing bites was very enjoyable, reminded me of a 70s-80s exploitation film with all the shameless fanservice and ultraviolence
that's fair, but i usually don't mind people recommending stuff that's only had a couple episodes. as long as it started good, that's fine! i'll be along for the journey at least
Just watch first ep of everything and find out then. You are the best judge and considering there are only 1-2 eps out of each show there is not that much to check out anyway.
Check out Kokkoku i guess? (this one has interesting OP at the least, but i just have a feeling it's gonna go downhill as a show and fast)
What's good next season? :v:
Full Metal Panic s3, Chio-Chan, Golden Kamui for starters. Hero Academia s3, Mahou Shoujo Ore, some other stuff, next season looks like it'll have a pretty good lineup.

In which case I guess I'm the guy to give the obligatory Violet Evergarden suggestion. The first episode was very good and got me invested in learning more about its world and characters.

Hero Aca season 3, why do you even ask.
Hello friends,
Yearly check in for anime recommendations, whats the good stuff over the year?
Hello friends,

At the top of the list in must-watch, Houseki no Kuni, Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou, Made In Abyss, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu season 2, Mahoujin Guru Guru. Personally I also really liked Alice to Zouroku.
After that, ACCA 13, ID-0, Akiba's Trip, Hero Academia s2, 18if (your mileage may vary due to the episodic format and rotating directors), Kekkai Sensen season 2, Natsume Yuujinchou Roku.
There are a handful more I liked but those are the ones I would recommend in general without knowing your tastes.
Check Violet Evergarden on Netflix,[Sp]Violet is directly called a robot in the synopsis despite episode keeping it somewhat ambiguous.[/sp]
Gee thanks.
That exact kind of problem is why I made Netflix: Blur Synopses while watching Devilman Crybaby. ([editline]edit[/editline] I just edited this to also catch the pause idle overlay synopsis, if your mouse cursor isn't directly over it. [editline]edit[/editline] It also blurs promoted video synopses on end screens now.)
I made one for Amazon Video earlier too. ([editline]edit[/editline] I just made an edit to this to catch more synopses on the site.)
If any of you decide to use this and see any unblurred synopses, send me a message or comment over there and I'll get it fixed.
[...] Psycho-pass (season 1 only).
The movie's good too.
Houshin Engi adapted an entire volume in one episode, skipping 2-3 chapters of the first volume. There's 23 volumes of the manga, and 23 episodes of the anime.
This may or may not turn out to be a completely rushed adaptation.

However it will take a while to get into Berserk. It took me about 150 chapters to really get into. But Miuras art is fantastic and the way it evolves (as it evolves for other mangaka over the years) is very interesting to see as well.
re: berserk, i watched the films first and fell in love with it. then i watched the 97 anime and loved it even more than the films. then i read all the manga and obviously loved that the best. idk why it would take you 150 chapters, it's immediately great

Story, lore, characters, atmosphere. Took me a while to get used to it and then to fall in love with it and there also was a big flashback in the beginning.
i'd argue the golden age if that's what you mean is the most coherent and traditional (and heartbreaking) narrative of the series and is a great way to start the series
Yeah, I think that's the one. I'm more used to flashbacks that happen later in a series, rather than being thrown into one right at the beginning. But that's just a personal preference. I like it when a story moves forward and a flashback is more of a re-telling where the present time is unaffected for the duration of it. It was pretty good though.
I also had trouble with JoJo just like Rapier, because the style, characters and such are so unusual for me. Berserk was more into my personal direction (fantasy) but it was still very unusual because it was the first dark fantasy comic series that I read.

I think it took me until Guts' first sad face in the manga to get absolutely sucked into it. Before that it was cool and good enough to certainly keep going, but that one panel completely changed the show for me, as I feel like it's meant to. Guts goes from a really angry man who's clearly a lot kinder than he lets on to a broken man I really wanted to see win, all in just one panel.
DARLING in the FRANXX was... not good. half the episode is wasted on the most hamfisted, stupid, pointless allegory for gender and sex, then the other half is just evangelion but worse.
The animation was fine in the action scenes, but everything around it was so bland and unappealing, especially the cookie cutter characters.
Little late on the train here, but finally getting around to watching Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable.
Yup. Shit's just as weird as when he was fighting some vampire ass-hole.
Another Saturday, Another Pop Team Epic episode. Man i don't know how long they'll keep the VA swapping slick for because i'm actually getting upset. Aside from that the jokes hit home a fair bit better for me than the first episode.
I'm optimistic for DITFX but i haven't watched it just yet, waiting till i can feast on something.

Feeling mostly the same but I think the action was top notch shit. Everybody but the quirky poster girl, [sp]unsurprisingly a monster hybrid[/sp], is bland as fuck so far or a walking cliche.
About as I expected really.
trying to remember the name of an old series, guy gets woken up in the future the world has been taken over by aliens, end up joining a group trying to kill them using exoskeleton style mech suits. has the typical hes a little bitch boy and has a crush on the woman who rescued him storyline
its old pretty sure its not even 16:9, the alien design is zerg with a bit of geiger
Rip merge
Oh and the protagonist guy is literally factory made, I swear there are four dudes just like him this season alone.
