Sorry and thanks, by the way. I see the OP took the time to make a ton of suggestions, but I'm not entirely sure where to start since I'm still having trouble defining what I actually like.
Obligatory check the op post
Also I think Psycho pass, Steins;Gate might be up your alley
Yeah, I was just looking at that. I can eliminate a bunch right off the bat thanks to the art style, but I still don't really know where to start. That's a long list! I know I've heard of Pyscho Pass before, and Steins;Gate rings a bell, but I've never watched either.
try Legend of the Galactic Heroes
I'll give it a look! Thanks.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes, PsychoPass and Steins;Gate all got mentioned while I was typing
So I'll add From The New World onto that pile
Watching the pilot for PsychoPass now, since it's on Crunchyroll already! Will report.
[editline]/[/editline]
30 seconds in, and I think the art style is very pretty so far. It reminds me a lot of Ghost in the Shell.

They're animated by the same studio
PsychoPass is one of my all time favourites. Just make sure to skip over the second season and go to the movie after you're finished

I stopped watching because I thought it might turn into a female-led harem show. Does it not do that? Because I really want it to not do that.

the hell
I'm not turned off yet, but I'd just like to say that Inspector Akane Tsunemori looks like she has fetal alcohol syndrome.
I keep watching random shows on Crunchy Roll and hate most of them. I could use some suggestions!
Shows like Ghost in the Shell and Attack on Titan were a lot of fun for me. I watched the most recent series for Berserk, which was pretty cool, and also watched Ajin on Netflix-- not too bad either. I'm watching Parasyte right now, and digging that a lot. In a word, I guess I'm into serious and suspenseful shows with adult themes? Sci-Fi, fantasy, supernatural elements, violence, etc.
What I'm definitely not into is overblown cutesy / comedy stuff. There are a few exceptions, probably, but as a general rule I don't really click with that kind of humor. If people are calling each other perverts and idiots and hitting each other with oversized leeks over ~humorous misunderstandings!~ , and shit like that, I'm not going to be into it. I'm also pretty picky about animation style. I prefer a more polished and "realistic" look.

Animation and situations like that are what I hate. My girlfriend used to watch this show, and it drove me up the wall. That just isn't funny to me. Fair play if you enjoy it, but that's not my scene.
Help steer me right? I'm basically just randomly watching stuff right now, and end up quitting after a couple of episodes.
mushishi
darker than black
kino's journey
madoka
psycho pass
log horizon
evangelion
tatami galaxy
Don't worry, you'll eventually crack and end up watching moeblob.
Everyone does.
everyone.
I've seen a little bit of Evangelion, but not much. What I saw was pretty cool, but Shinji wouldn't stop crying.
I watched Madoka Magicka a few years ago, and liked it for the most part. Have only seen the original series, though. Aren't there other series and movies and stuff now?
Mushishi is the one about the guy who hunts for ghosts or summat, yeah? I've seen a little bit, but it didn't really capture me for whatever reason. Didn't have any major complaints; I just wasn't all that engaged. Might give that one another go at some point, though.
Never heard of the others! I'll have to keep them in mind.

Several are in the OP, but oh well.
91 Days
Ping Pong The Animation
Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinju
Hyouge Mono
Cromartie High
Death Parade
Infinite Ryvius
Shingeki no Bahamut
Seirei no Moribito
Fafner Dead Aggressor
Kaiji
I have no idea how many are on Crunchyroll so if you only watched CR picks, too bad.

There's 3 movies, 2 are just recaps while the third is a sequel to the series. There's also a concept episode out to tease the future series.

more akin to remakes than recaps since there is no old footage in them
PsychoPass :ok:
Will keep watching! Thanks for the suggestion(s).

I just want to mention that you're overlooking a show beloved by pretty much everyone right here.
Actually, aren't these from the 2003 version anyway? You should still consider watching Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
I've tried multiple times on my own, and have seen quite a bit just by having my fiancee watch it while I was working on other stuff. Hate it. Sorry! Glad you enjoy it, but it's just not my kind of show.
fma is probably less chibi comedic pause in the manga but it's been awhile since i read it

those moments always flow better in the original is a manga. What is 1-2 panels of comic relief needs to have animations and voices, taking up a bunch of time and potentially ruining the mood.

That's a shame, you really are missing out, especially if you like more serious storytelling. FMA:B is probably one of the best stories told within the anime medium in that it has amazing characters, soundtrack, production, and a story that knows what it's doing from the start. It's very well written and directed and I'd hate to see you dismiss all of the great parts about it because during the less-serious parts of the show it succumbs to a certain art style

I'm not dismissing it based on brief snippets of an art style I don't like, I'm dismissing it because I've seen a lot of it and just didn't generally enjoy it. The show's sense of humor definitely played into that, but it wasn't the sole reason.
I'm not trying to say it's a bad show or that ya'll shouldn't like it; it just isn't my cup of tea. I like what I like, yo.

no, that's fair, I didn't think you were trying to say that at all, it just sounded like the at-times humorous artstyle was a large gripe with the series that put you off it

It's the worst part of Drifters because each time it happens it takes ages and tends to happen at least once per conversation and kills the mood every time.
It's the worst part of Drifters because each time it happens it takes ages and tends to happen at least once per conversation and kills the mood every time.
I hear you, dude. I really loved the style and concept of Drifters, and the animation was beautiful during the combat scenes, but after five episodes or so I just had to throw in the towel. The poor writing and forced comic relief in every major conversation totally destroyed the mood.
Not sure why shounen shows need to cut to chibi art during comic relief moments.
Because there's certainly tonnes of shows out there that have obvious comic relief moments without feeling the need to turn everyone into crayon drawings
it's the easiest way to convey that "this is the joke"
u should watch hidamari sketch bda

It also conveniently reduces the time taken to draw the panel.

sounds like you need to finish things tbh
anime isn't like American TV, for one Anime actually have a planned finale to seasons unlike American TV which has a tendency to cliffhanger every season and continue til it gets cancelled, anime on the other hand will (generally) tell a full story from start to end over a series.
