Just curious, what about anime characters that firmly realise they're in an anime instead?
Everybody in Xabungle.

Boku No Hero Acedamia does this a few times in the first 4 episodes, although it's more of an in-universe extreme narcissism.
I meant to get the guy's opinion on them.

That's Chronicles of the Going Home Club isn't it? Didn't much like that anime personally.
That's Chronicles of the Going Home Club isn't it? Didn't much like that anime personally.
It is exactly that.
Just curious, what about anime characters that firmly realise they're in an anime instead?
Again, it's fine if it's comedy, or trying for a comedic tone.
Or if it's a gag character or relegated to after-show gags. Or if the scene is just particularly lighthearted.
No problem whatsoever.
I'm talking about stuff like "this isn't an anime" when the characters are investigating a gruesome murder.
Cough Occultic Nine cough.
Sure, it's not always the most serious show, but when you're trying to keep a scene serious, keep it serious.
The Starship Troopers reboot thread got me to watch the 80's OVA. It's pretty alright, close enough to the book and still allowing for enough Anime tropes, although damn did they make everyone incompetent. And arachnids became... something extra alien.
Shame that it's only 6-episodes long. It could have been interesting if they tried to go further, even if for a few more episodes, to show the Federation's change in strategy.

yeah it's okay and it does capture some of the feeling of the book
and the op 1 is 80's as fuck

also I like the character design of zim and the mech design in the ova
[editline]6th November 2016[/editline]
and yeah I felt it needed more eps
also I like the character design of zim
Similarly the most generic and yet most memorable character.
That was a beautiful episode. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire duration of the performance.
I really loved how they simply showed the peice they played in full. Reminds me a little of how Rakugo sometimes simply just played the full performance by a charcter. No inner monologue or commentary. Literally letting it speak for itself.
Good episode of Izetta. Got a mix of SoL, brutal espionage, [sp]NAZI OCCULT[/sp], weapon prototyping...
"Four percent of the Empire's budget is spent here at the Imperial Technology Arsenal" wew work it babe, gimme that world building. This line really stood out to me because of the deceptively large amount of information that can be gleaned from it about Germania and their position in the world
Just curious, what about anime characters that firmly realise they're in an anime instead?
Medaka Box is the epitome of this and I love it
to the point where [sp]one character's final motivation is to find out whether this whole thing is just a manga or not[/sp]
Well that episode of Izetta solved last week's huge writing contrivance pretty fast.
new ep of classicaloid was ok, at least it explained some stuff.

Shame they waited 5 episodes for it
Arpeggio of Blue Steel | Chapter 80 came out!

[sp]Akashi tho.[/sp]
magical girl raising project really feels dated. you can tell it's one of those LN that were inspired by battle royale series like mirai nikki and dark magical girls like madoka, yet it fails to imitate both while at the same time committing mistakes from both series
not surprising the original LN came out in 2012,the anime is trying to capitalize on a fad 4 years too late
Hey, is anyone wants CR guest pass? I have one spare.
Drifters 5
[sp]I'm only speculating but I'm gonna get so upset if Yoichi's flashback person is revealed to be "mr neither end nor drifter" and is also great great grandfather of Nobunaga or Toyohisa[/sp]

[sp]Flash back guy is the non-deciding guy. Yoshitsune was a general of the Minamoto clan that Yoichi fought for. They fought against the Taira clan, which Nobunaga claimed he descended from. Their descendant Minamoto clan, the Ashikaga shogunate, would later be sized by Nobunaga during his reign, so no need to worry about that part.[/sp]
Heavy, heavy knowledge of Japanese feudal history helps with figuring out all of the main characters' references. Most of the other characters don't have such obscure and in-depth history requirements, as Drifters is meant for a Japanese audience.

Just watched Patlabor Reboot, the five minute long short that is exactly what it sounds like, and is pretty much that: a modernised Patlabor, with the plot being somebody streaming themselves over Niconico while going on a rampage in a Labor, with Twitter used to make you know that it's hip and modern.
But it was pretty good, and while there wasn't much to glean from the three characters featured, they seem like perfectly good characters. I hope this is meant to gauge interest for a potential proper series, because I could really go for more Patlabor and it's pretty much just a "hey it's patlabor, but new" pitch. There's not much to say about it besides that.
If you hate 3D mecha no matter what I can't really say anything that'll stop you from seeing that as a big problem, but the CG mecha was the best I've seen in anything short of an Orange-animated series.

I'll check it out when I get time, I'm still a bit concerned with CG labors though, since labor damage was one of the coolest parts of the series and I feel like they'll get lazy with it.
I'm thinking of watching NGE and just get it over with so I can say, "Yes, I've watched it."
I'm thinking of watching NGE and just get it over with so I can say, "Yes, I've watched it."
It's not worth it, the OP sticks with you for eternity afterwards.

Even without watching NGE you can't really avoid that song

it's not like it's unpleasant to watch
it's insanely overrated but it's not bad

I mean, as far as Whiny Protagonists and Nonsensical Endings that Actually Make Sense, it still hasn't been beat.

I'd say it got beaten pretty easily in the first regard because Shinji isn't whiny at all.
