I watched the previous new Berserk series with massive amounts of hype and it was so genuinely bad that I couldn't finish it. Dropped it about 6 episodes in. I NEVER not finish an anime series that short. It's a shame to see that this studio is getting another run at it. I'm genuinely kind of tired of the whole CGI shit in anime. It's very rarely done properly.

The studio that did the original Berserk wasn't a better choice or anything /s. I know that Mangaka generally have to be approached by the studio in question but come on man, I would have contacted them if I had a manga that seriously popular and well written. The first anime release by OLM was fucking art. It's still in my number 1 spot, although it has been challenged many times by all the anime I've seen (particularly Hunter x Hunter). Then you have OLM with 180+ individual titles under it's belt. Just... wat? Such a shame. Also yes I believe this is the place to post manga shit too.

The new Berserk makes more sense as an elaborate tax dodging scheme than a serious attempt to adapt the manga.

The use of CGI seemed fair to me, since it was used to fill scenes with movement and animate huge battle scenes. The new series is the worst of both worlds, ugly [I]and [/I]a poorly animated slideshow. If anyone has something to recommend based on what I liked, I'm always hunting for something interesting. I read some of these quite awhile ago so I'm writing from memory. I also probably forgot some of them. [B]General:[/B] Ultra Heaven: My new favourite. The things Keiichi Koike does with panels leaves me in awe. I just wish the ending wasn't so abrupt. This manga pretty much ruined manga for me because nothing else holds up. Berserk: It's Berserk, it's fucking awesome. Heads: Tragic story. It slowed down a bit in the middle, but the ending went places. Pretty good. Homonculus: Nauseating and with a strange grasp on psychology. Interesting. Ikigami: The stories were less predictable than I expected, but I lost patience with the episodic story and dropped it. Still good though. Eternal Sabbath: Interesting and well drawn, but I found the ending to be a bit cliched. Sanctuary: I wasn't expecting to get so interested in something so political, but it was well told and extremely well drawn. Strain: Same artist, different writer. An interesting story although the characters made some odd decisions towards the end. Eden - It's an Endless World: I started out really liking this, the art is great and the science fiction is on point, but the pace slowed to a crawl in the second half. The protagonist also lost all his personality, and became less and less relevant as the bigger picture revealed itself. I would've liked the ending more if the story didn't drag its feet so much getting there. Billy Bat: It was great, but I keep having to remind myself that it ended because the ending felt so rushed. Shamo: It's like evil-bastard Rocky. I only read the first big arc so far, I might keep at it. Vagabond: Brilliant, but something tells me I'll never finish it now that I hit the hiatus wall. I am a Hero: Pretty damn great, I like the unique take on zombies. I keep up with it whenever it updates. Mr. Arashi's Amazing Freak Show: I felt like I needed a shower after this one. I honestly couldn't say if I liked it or not but it left an impression. Shintaro Kago in General: Completely twisted, but with a sense of inventiveness and humour which makes it palatable. [B]Takahashi Tsutomu:[/B] Jiraishin: I never finished it, it's pretty long, but it was good. Hardboiled cop story. I would've kept at it but I finished one of the arcs and I didn't have the energy to start another. Blue Heaven: This is all thriller, I liked it more. Short and sweet. Alive!: Very short and with an intriguing premise. I liked it. [B]Jiro Matsumoto[/B] Freesia: A cool story with interesting characters and some great twists. Is the movie any good? Tropical Citron: Surreal for its own sake and the story kept stopping so he could draw porn, it felt like a waste of time. [B]Matsunaga Toyokazu:[/B] Ryuuguuden: A very pleasant surprise, a story that feels like someone's daydream. A simple but effective artstyle and a perfect balance between comedy, tragedy, light and dark. Bakune Young: Fucking hilarious, once it picks up speed it never slows down. Paperakyu: I loved this one too, though the ending was quite abrupt. [B]Usamaru Furuya:[/B] The Music of Marie: Masterfully told story and it really packs a punch, exactly what I was hunting for. Short Cuts: Sometimes hilarious, sometimes incomprehensible, contained a lot of obscure Japanese cultural references. I liked it a lot. Probably my favourite strip: [URL="https://i.imgur.com/TJeWykk.jpg"]1[/URL] [URL="https://i.imgur.com/8S1v23m.jpg"]2[/URL] (flipped) Chronicle of the Clueless Age: This one is pretty light for Furuya though still very surreal. It felt like something Satoshi Kon might write. Garden: Extremely surreal and very disturbing at times, I'd probably read more like it. 51 Ways to Protect Her: A couple survive in the city after an earthquake. Straightforward but harrowing, I liked it. Palepoli: Like Garden but with Short Cuts sense of humour and parody. An even split between hilarious and disturbing. Genkaku Picasso: Formulaic and with flat characters, I wasn't impressed. Innocent Shonen Juujigun: Nasty and medieval as fuck, surprisingly grounded in history despite the fantastical elements. Very unique. [B]Inio Asano:[/B] Goodnight Punpun: This story left stains on my soul that will never come off. I loved it but I hated it, if you've read it you know what I mean. Nijigahara Holograph: I had no idea what exactly was happening, but it was very compelling. Worth another read for sure. Solanin: Good all-round but a bit too short and straightforward for my tastes.
