I would say that it couldn't possibly be worse than the first season, but I'm sure it'll find new ways to impress me.

Overlord was boring.
holy shit can this thread get off its Overlord hate bandwagon for once?
the show did exactly what it promised you
holy shit can this thread get off its Overlord hate bandwagon for once?

No it didn't? It promised skeletor going around fucking shit up but instead we get him going under cover helping villages for a good chunk of the series, and then the last few episodes are about dealing with an unruly subordinate.

skeletor was a strategic guy since the very first episode
[sp]him going undercover was to learn more about the world he's in and try not to fuck up, as was pointed out many times by the characters themselves
a good bit of character development happened throughout as well, like Momonga realizing he's no longer human after all[/sp]
[sp]It still ended in him fucking shit up so I don't get your point here[/sp]
Overlord mostly shines in its world building and mystery, which the show displayed quite well
Did you really just want mindless action 24/7? Becuase that would have made it shit
Overlord was quite faithful adaptation of light novel. They toned down monolog and skeletors thinking a lot, but it would have made things even slower.
If overlord shines in it's worldbuilding why was the world completely generic and uninteresting??
holy shit can this thread get off its Overlord hate bandwagon for once?

it promised me a boring show with a world that it barely bothers to actually tell me about, and when it does it's just el generique fantasy world no. 24924595921965?
I was promised "Skeletor takes over the fucking world", not "Skeletor takes over 2 acres and an old forest and then proceeds to spend the rest of the show pretending to be a knight for a purpose that even he isn't quite sure of in the end"
holy shit can this thread get off its Overlord hate bandwagon for once?

I wanted anime Skeletor being an evil overlord.
Instead I got some boring guy who has a dozen I-win buttons and is a natural level 100 in a world that has a level cap of 50 and his gang of in-universe original-character-do-not-steals, who are all so naturally overpowered so that a single one of them could probably steamroll the entire continent. This boring guy pretended to be a generic swordsman for ten episodes to go do boring things and never did anything particularly overlordy.
The characters were flat and unlikable, the action was dull, the setting is so underdeveloped you couldn't even call it one-dimensional and it was an incredibly shallow power fantasy that wasn't even good at being one.
If overlord shines in it's worldbuilding why was the world completely generic and uninteresting??
are you stupid?
the entire plot revolves around finding out where they are and how it's related to the game
they barely showed you any of it because the world is the whole mystery of the show
If overlord shines in it's worldbuilding why was the world completely generic and uninteresting??
There was worldbuilding? I must have missed it because there sure as hell wasn't any beyond "we are a generic RPG world and there's a church somewhere I guess".
it promised me a boring show with a world that it barely bothers to actually tell me about, and when it does it's just el generique fantasy world no. 24924595921965?

so you expected him to take over the world in 3 episodes?
he pointed out quite well that he wanted to plan it thoroughly and act according to what he finds out about the world, which is what the knight adventures were about
even as someone who enjoyed the overlord anime i honestly dont think i'm going to watch a second season
it was fun for a while but unless it changes drastically into a more interesting direction a second season is really stretching it
who are all so naturally overpowered so that a single one of them could probably steamroll the entire continent.
ah yes, [sp]just like how Shalltear totally steamrolled that gang of adventurers at the end there, which ended in her getting mind-controlled and eventually dying to Momonga[/sp]
so you expected him to take over the world in 3 episodes?
No I expected him to do anything in 12 episodes, instead he spends almost the entire runtime doing exactly nothing and the remaining runtime is split between controlling his OC donut stelas and capturing exactly one single village.
he pointed out quite well that he wanted to plan it thoroughly and act according to what he finds out about the world, which is what the knight adventures were about
and yet they led to.... fucking nothing! what amazing worldbuilding and story, truly the pinnacle of power fantasy rpg stories
maybe the whole knight bullshit would have been cool if it wasn't the most boring shit on the planet and actually led somewhere
so you expected him to take over the world in 3 episodes?
he pointed out quite well that he wanted to plan it thoroughly and act according to what he finds out about the world, which is what the knight adventures were about
"cruise around the world for a while to gather information" is a perfectly good idea. In a good anime, this would probably be the part of the show I enjoy the most because I like worldbuilding and exploring a setting more than whatever plot is going on a lot of the time.
He gathered little to no information beyond how the generic adventurer's guild works (spoiler alert, it worked exactly like how you would imagine a generic RPG adventurer's guild works) and his adventure/s were boring and were dedicated mostly to "wow look at how strong the MC is, isn't he strong look how strong he is" instead of learning or doing anything interesting, and thus the entire show past episode 3 consisted of doing nothing do do with being a skeleton overlord.
are you stupid?

Yeah and? The world they showed me was boring and generic as fuck, and the show was too interested in sucking off the main character's skeleton cock to give me any indication that the world isn't the most boring generic fantasy setting imaginable.
they spent a good chuck of the show on the adventurer plotline, which would have been a good time to show the unique aspects of the setting, but instead it's just skeletor cosplaying as a knight and being boring and invincible. And what was established here was an utterly unremarkable rpg jobs system that in a 100 other things.
Just because a show has worldbuilding or a mystery it doesn't automatically make it good worldbuilding or mystery. In fact, it's the exact same premise as Log Horizon's world, but that show spends time to show how the setting is different from normal fantasy (not to mention how visually log horizon's world is different with it's touch of post apocalypse.)
Overlord presents us with an uninteresting and bland world and then asks us to care, if that does it for you then great, but I need more meat to a setting for it to really entice me.
ah yes, [sp]just like how Shalltear totally steamrolled that gang of adventurers at the end there, which ended in her getting mind-controlled and eventually dying to Momonga[/sp]
[sp]She was steamrolling them pretty hard until the mind control happened, which as far as the anime presented was the only conceivable threat to team Momonga.[/sp]
