More IW leaks, this time with russian descriptions of lego sets https://www.reddit.com/r/marvelstudios/comments/7dx6iz/potential_infinity_war_spoilers_descriptions_of_6/?st=ja64rpep&sh=8edc16a7 [sp] Wonder why Wakanda is getting alot of focus? Soul stone maybe?[/sp]
Oooh boy, I hope we get [sp]an action scene where Spidey teams up with Doctor Strange.[/sp] They've got a golden opportunity to hit us with some really inventive team-ups and character dynamics, hopefully they just don't waste it on yet another "the adventures of Mr. Stark and his boy sidekick". Homecoming ended with Pete deciding to stay independent and street-level and that's exactly what I wanna see. Bonus points if he tinkered around with the suit and removed all the useless clunky Iron Man shit in favor of your standard web shooters, spider tracers, and whatnot. [editline]20th November 2017[/editline] I know he wears [sp]that hideous Iron Spider suit for at least one scene in Infinity War, but hopefully that's just setup for either A) another "Spider-Man works best when he cuts the bullshit and puts more emphasis on his powers than shiny toys" bit, just to really hammer it in, or B) the introduction of the Venom symbiote, which would be an amazing curveball considering I think Sony is still committed to throwing that turd in the oven.[/sp] For real though, once Infinity War is out of the way, they'd be idiots to not put Tom Holland up against Vincent D'Onofrio. I know Feige has this thing about not crossing over the Netflix with the movies but he's literally the only person that doesn't want a Spider-Man/Daredevil movie to happen.
My only real complaint was that [sp]the entire subplot with Lewis and his suicidal rampage was basically a cheap way to connect the dots between Frank and Billy and Madani.[/sp]
I can't complain because I think the show could've used more subplots like that. People to punish while we extend the time to get the over arch
To those who've watched Punisher, do you think you can go in completely blind without watching DD S2 or the other shows? I've seen DD S2 myself but I'll like to watch it with my dad who hasn't and I'll rather jump right into Punisher with him since he probably wouldn't enjoy DD too much.
There's two and a half episodes with DD specifics, the rest is all Punisher. [sp] This is what Marvel adaptions should be. This is what Netflix's modus operandi should be while they still have the license. Completely focused and nuanced-per-take from minute one, this is how you present Marvel adult not-popcorn seat filler properties to a new audience. Not every show should be everyone's universal cup of tea, and nto every hero should appeal to every audience member, you try that and you get Defenders. The political (and by political I mean social media pandering) element that has comprised froma somewhat to completely most of the other offerings is utterly absent here, and that's part of the reason why this works so well. Much like The Shield, and Rescue Me and Sons of Anarchy, things are generally presented with only as much filter and pretext as is needed to move to making a point, and whether that point is "correct" or not is left entirely up to the viewer. Violence is unvarnished and and not terribly stylized, and neither are the consequences. The only real dings to the show are the blatant Timothy McVeigh parallel with Lewis which comes off a little too cut and dried and pat, and the "90s Action Pack" green color grading is pretty heavy handed as to be actually distracting, especially on indoor overlit shots. Very worthwhile watch. [/sp]
Finished watching The Punisher. As a die-hard fan of the comic books (especially the MAX run), it was... absolutely dreadful. Even after walking in blind, with 0.0% expectations. There was drama, drama and more drama, with very little vigilantism/"punishing" going on. And that's leaving aside the fact that it plays practically like Jason Bourne dressed in black. I can't even begin to describe everything that was wrong with it, without sounding like a resentful cunt, but I never found anything remotely enjoyable. Of course this is just my take on it, but as it is, I couldn't possibly recommend it. [editline]21st November 2017[/editline] For anyone even mildly interested in the MAX run, I'd highly suggest the Complete Collection up to vol. 4. Everything else is apocryphal material, not up to Ennis's level. This is essentially some minor bits of MAX sprinkled onto the second half of Year One + Do Not Fall In New York City. Remember that MAX Punisher is sort of en media res, as its Punisher 30 years into his career (the first arc jumps right into Post-Microchip era where he's 54 years old). You cant do a freshly born Punisher and immediately jump into MAX because MAX was done after Punisher had been around since '74 with the idea that he had literally been Punisher since '74 in mind.

Episode after episode, I was trying to find anything remotely redeemable but there was nothing. I do appreciate Bernthal's work, it's just that the material he was given to work with is sub-par.

[sp]The scene near the end of him letting go of Maria so he can live purely to continue killing is when he becomes the Punisher for real, i think.[/sp]
I'm up to episode 9. I started out agreeing with some of you guys that I would've liked some more Frank vs The Mob type stuff, especially when the Gnuccis get mentioned in episode 1, but I'm liking the deeper plot thus far. Personally I like MAX the best out of any other version of Punisher, but I'm thinking the Netflix rendition is a pretty close second, or third after Welcome Back, Frank (nice shout out to that at the end of episode 1, too).

Note: This post is Infinity War-related, not Punisher-related. Just wanted to clarify which spoilers I'm referring to here. Its kind of weird going to the theater and seeing Thor 3 again, then coming home to watch the rest of Punisher and say "these two are in the same universe" :v:

seen this article on reddit https://www.avclub.com/hulu-s-runaways-is-even-better-than-fans-could-have-hop-1820506664
Runaways fans have been holding their collective breath ever since it was announced that Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage were adapting the Marvel comics series for TV. With Runaways’ impending arrival on Hulu, those readers can breathe a sigh of relief: The Gossip Girl duo have done an amazing job of transcribing Runaways, veering from the source material in a wholly reverential way.
Which is cool to hear. I never read the runaways source material, so I'm going in to it with only the show trailer giving me an idea of what it's about. The article also says that the comics can be fit into a movie, so the writers/show runners added more depth to the story.
Runaways is out now
You know whats something i really enjoy about Punisher as a character that i never really see anyone mention? He's probably the most versatile character out of Marvels entire lineup. If theres one thing that does consistently annoy me about Punisher adaptions, its that they keep misunderstanding the skull insignia. Unlike most superhero design elements, it actually serves a number of practical purposes. The first being intimidation, obviously, the second being a target for his heavily armored torso to draw fire away from more unprotected parts, and third (as it originally was but really isnt anymore for some reason), the teeth were intended to be magazine pouches. I understand why they ground a lot of superhero designs, i hate it, but i can understand it, but the skull isnt one of those things that needs grounding, its already grounded. That being said, it being spray-painted on is still in line with the general Year One inspirations and its still real cool looking, so i hope they eventually fill out that skull and put the pouches on.
I was more or less slightly irked that he didn't have it on very often Punishers skull is so great because it can fit on literally anything and you'll be able to recognize him no matter what he's wearing or how he's drawn long as the skull is present But I understand it's a show

I mean you can tell its clearly a different prop, the paint is applied differently and more clean, but its done the same way with the missing chunks, so its kind of funny. [editline]21st November 2017[/editline] Frank studied art so as to properly understand negative space in creating the illusion of depth for his logo.
Just finished Punisher. Yeah, it's in my top 3. The brutality of the final few episodes, jeez... It ended on quite the high note but I'm worried as to where the show will go from here. [sp]As it stands, Frank doesn't have anyone to punish, nor is he working with Micro and there's no real big bag except for Billy. I'm guessing a simple mob/street-level threat would be seen as too small and insignificant to carry a season arc.[/sp]
