Just got back from the theater not too long ago. It's perhaps among Marvel's top 10 or 5, to date. I don't think it reinvents the genre as much as some make it out to be; but what it does, it does really well and in an enjoyable way. I loved the costume designs and the design of Wakanda and its technology; the soundtrack, particularly, stood out for its use of traditional instruments for Black Panther himself and then more electronic/synths --or whatever the nomenclature is --for Killmonger. Speaking of Killmonger, He is probably one of the better/best villains the Marvel films have had since Loki. [sp]He raises a good point in regards to Wakanda's isolationist ideals and the failures of kings/Black Panthers of the past towards the rest of the world and Africa.[/sp] He's rounded enough that we understand that's he's not evil for the sake of evil, but his past and Wakanda's past has driven him to the extreme. Of course, this allows T'Challa to learn from the past and grow as a king. Some of the CGI was a little too noticeable particularly in the final duel and when [sp]T'Challa returns to face Killmonger, I swear T'Challa's arms were unnaturally long.[/sp] Overall, I enjoyed it and it stands strong on its own as well as a part of the greater MCU. I'm looking forward to seeing more in Infinity War.
Should I watch or not watch Black panther?
Black Panther easily has one of the best core tension of any superhero movie ever because its so real and applies to our real world. Its not “should we allow superheroes to exist without laws” like Civil War. Its [sp]should one nation be beholden to the rest of the world and support it, or should it be allowed to isolate itself. While at the same time its about whether or not black people should rise up to escape oppression or work within those systems.[/sp] Also Killmonger is a GREAT villain. [sp]Hes a reverse Hans Gruber. Where Gruber was a thief pretending to be working from ideology, Killmonger is working for an ideology pretending to be a thief.[/sp]
Why was Ragnarok so well received here? The few Jokes that landed did so really well, but most flopped and ruined the surrounding scene (No doubt the first scene with Surtur soured everything thing that came after for me. The first spin was predictable, painful even, and then they repeated the joke) The NZ rock monster was downright banal had you ever experienced any of Waititis (better) works, and most of the action scenes were lackluster. By the end of the film me and the lady were asking why we kept wasting our time with these marvel movies. What did you guys like about it, because I'd rank it among the worst marvel films so far. It sits nicely between Iron man III and Guardians of the galaxy II (which is the bottom of my barrel. Though the other Thor movies and age of ultron are pretty forgettable)
Thor Ragnarok and GOG2 bottom of the barrel? what are you smoking?

I don't know how high I'd rank it, overall, but I certainly was laughing quite hard throughout.
My only issue with Thor Ragnarok is that it abused the whole "undercut with a joke" thing to the point that I was literally predicting scenes before they happened, like with [sp]Banner smacking into the Rainbow Bridge[/sp]. I love Taika Waititi, but it felt like the movie couldn't decide if it wanted to be an oddball space comedy or Disney's Marvel's Thor 3; everything on Asgard is 100% serious and everything on Sakaar is 100% goofy and those are the only two environments. So we keep swapping between them and the audience is left with tonal whiplash. Compare this to Guardians 2, where EVERY character gets some funny moments and some heartfelt moments; there is no "designated comedic relief" in Guardians 2 (though I suppose Drax comes close). James Gunn understands when to cut the tension with a joke (Taserface, Drax insulting Mantis' appearance, "ow my nipples") and when to simply let a scene play out and be legitimately dramatic/emotional ([sp]the Ego reveal, Yondu's death/funeral, Nebula's fight with Gamora[/sp]). Thor was fun, but that's all it was; moments that should have held serious weight like [sp]the Warriors 3 and Odin dying[/sp] fell totally flat. Definitely among the better MCU movies (and leagues better than Thor 1 and 2), but I'd still like to see them pull off a straight-laced adaptation of Thor without using the humor as a crutch to make up for the fact that we're supposed to take a space viking with a magic hammer seriously. James Gunn made people cry real tears over the insecurities of a talking CGI raccoon, you can make Thor into an unironic protagonist.

Speaking of Ragnarok, it was revealed that its final fight scene was planned... Using 8-bit.
God damn I love Vince Staples Opps from the BP album but they need to release that film mix from the Bousan scene with the African drums
You need a new goddamn barrel.
GoG 1 is at my no.1 spot for marvel films. It was funny, charming and the cheese was heartfelt. GoG 2 was a soulless, unfunny film about daddy issues that was just painful to watch. Some corperate saw the first film and went "DO MORE, FLIP IT TO OVERDRIVE, OH YEAH THIS WILL SELL *aneurysm*". Any scene that wasn't yondu or drax was just fucking bogged down in shite as the moral message of the film was force-fed into your arsehole when it wasn't being undercut by forced jokes. At least with the dark world and age of ultron, they had the merit of being forgettable. (I've not watched blade 3, if we're counting that, and i've really not looked back on the universal hulk film, if we're counting that, or any of that straight to dvd cap/punisher stuff) but GoG 2 was offensively bad as a sequel.

I really liked black panther. Its a really well done movie. I definitely encourage people to see it. Great cast, super great aesthetics and themes, great soundtrack, etc.
Honestly I can't remember and I'm pretty sure some of drax was garbage even if other parts were ok, but Gomorrah'n her sis were meh, the racoon's arc was dumb, Tiny grout was a monumental step down and Mr Quill was all kinds of awful. Ego was shit, Golden people were shit, Tazerface was shit. Yondu was solid and the only thing improved from the first film.
I cried at the end of 2. [sp]that fucking George harrison song still makes me cry cause of the funeral scene in gotg2 [/sp]
do you mean father and son by cat stevens?
do you mean father and son by cat stevens?
That plays after it's all done, when groot and starlord are listening to the song. Iirc
The George Harrison song is the one that plays when they arrive at Ego's Planet. You're definitely thinking of Father & Son; if that's not it, then you're thinking of The Chain by Fleetwood Mac.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/7zHjsTt.jpg[/t] black panther spoilers [sp]The new iron man suit materializes kinda like the new black panther suit, and BP ends with T'challa releasing wakanda technology to the world, and from the avengers trailer, we know Tony Stark visits Wakanda...[/sp]
[sp]Isn't the suit based on the Extermis one though?[/sp]

I have just watched BP, I've got to say I found it pretty boring, like it had some good bits but so much stuff went on for ever, I know stuff is subjective but generally I agree with the reviews for most Marvel films but for this one I really don't understand why it was given such high praise.

That's a huge plus it has over other films.
