My guess is they're taking all of Johnny Blaze's GR and putting onto Reyes because the former is what the general audience knows about and are expecting. Essentially this is the opposite of fan service.
Better not. They should use Ketch if they're going to do that.
Maybe it's something like they set up the story for the season involving a more classic take on Ghost Rider, and then Marvel told them they had to use the current one?
I hate to say it, but they probably chose Robbie Reyes for diversity reasons. I'm fine with it, Gabriel Luna's a fine actor
Obviously this means they're trying to negotiate Nic Cage back like Wesley Snipes
Norman Reedus has expressed a desire to play Johnny Blaze, I think that would be pretty cool.
That looks better but I don't understand why they have the outlines of the Metal Helmet but never use it [sp]Also it looks like he makes a pact with the devil in episode 2 and that's how he got his powers? If you're going to do that why even bother with Robbie? Why not use Blaze or Ketch?[/sp]
Because Robbie is hispanic. Hooray for transparency?
Considering it leaves Ketch or Blaze for bigger projects and Luna has got some fine chops, I'd say it should work fine, as long as the writing sticks.
Because Robbie is hispanic. [editline]22nd September 2016[/editline] They actually flat out said why.
where
Hooray for transparency?
Honestly, I wouldn't mind shallow diversity baiting if more studios were open about it. Imagine if Sony had just come out and said "yeah, Ghostbusters is starring all women as a progressive gimmick to get those diversity bux and divert criticism from the terrible script and direction", everyone would be spared so much bullshit.
If it means we can get blaze/ketch in a netflix series, fine by me.
where
The press release for the next season
The press release for the next season
Link? Quote? Evidence?
Has there ever been a story in the comics where someone gained the spirit of vengeance but later lost it? Could be that Robbie just has the spirit in him right now, but later in the season gets whatever he has in the comics? Including the new helmet head design? Also what is [sp] The ghost that the watchdogs opened up and it affected May? I did a quick skim over roberto reyes (earth-616) wiki and it says a ghost is what took him over. Could that perhaps be the same thing, or is that villain that affected May attached to Ghost Rider lore? [/sp]
We did a casting call for two Latino brothers with one being confined to a wheelchair and the other who is ‘always the most dangerous person in the room.’
Direct from SDCC. [/sp]
Blaze didn't have the spirit for a long ass time in the 90s, because it was Ketch's job (Ghost Rider) and then Badalino/Kowalski's (Vengeance). Most of the Midnight Sons runs just has Blaze doing normal type stuff with a side of magic guns and gadgets.
Direct from SDCC.
Thats... You... Realize Robbie is latino in the comics too, right? [editline]22nd September 2016[/editline] They did the casting call for "two latino brothers" because they were casting for the latino Robbie and Gabe Reyes. Where does it say they included Robbie because of a diversity quota?
Yes. You realize the question is why Robbie was chosen right? Right.
Direct from SDCC.
did you not take high school english this isn't how you cite link also this quote was made because the character actually IS latino [editline]22nd September 2016[/editline]
Yes. You realize the question is why Robbie was chosen right? Right.
yeah and this quote only explains a factor of how Gabriel was chosen, not Robbie
Yes. You realize the question is why Robbie was chosen right? Right.
No it doesnt. You dont cast people before deciding what character they're going to play, thats ass backwards. They cast two latino actors to play two latino characters because they were using those characters. Its like casting for a thin athletic white male for Peter Parker or a tall muscular black man for Luke Cage and then saying they did it for diversity or racial reasons when thats what the characters are supposed to look like.
plus they had his muscle car at SDCC am I to believe they were going to have any other ghost rider ride a car?
Yes. You realize the question is why Robbie was chosen right? Right.
I bet Robbie was chosen because he's the latest incarnation of Ghost Rider
Robbie was likely chosen because he's both different enough to not be closely associated with the Nic Cage films (Pretty much every Modern Rider follows the Johnny Blaze formula except for Zero and Robbie) since he uses a car instead of a bike, but still looks and acts enough like Ghost Rider to be accepted as GR.
ignoring the fact that agents of shield is a backroad and Ghost Rider could potentially be a film or Netflix series standing on its own, its only natural that they'd use the lesser known incarnation
I would have figured Robbie was chosen because he would have been the easiest to do for a budget, what with him just needing to be in a fullbody jumpsuit and skull helmet, the fire just shooting from his head vent, jaws and eyes would be easier than doing a full flaming skeleton CG job (But they didn't go for that for whatever reason). That and the watching over his brother Gabe angle makes for easier and possibly more compelling drama and interactions outside of his Rider form since he's trying to make life better for the both of them while struggling with everything from a job that doesn't pay enough to a shitty neighborhood that he doesn't have enough money to move out of. That and I suppose his Ghost Rider angle doesn't require them to go full Hell and demons.
Robbie Reyes also works better for a TV budget because you dont have to hire motorcycle stunt doubles who are likely way more expensive because bikes are dangerous. The car obscuring the driver also allows for some suspense and tension.
I doubt it, Blaze wouldn't need to have fire pupils, its barely different and I bet the car is pretty damn expensive compared to a cycle [editline]22nd September 2016[/editline]
Robbie Reyes also works better for a TV budget because you dont have to hire motorcycle stunt doubles who are likely way more expensive because bikes are dangerous.
I bet Robbie was chosen because he's the latest incarnation of Ghost Rider
He's also the one the least people would be mad about them messing up. You get all the name recognition of Ghost Rider without any of the fan backlash if things don't turn out well. It's honestly a pretty smart move.
I would have figured Robbie was chosen because he would have been the easiest to do for a budget, what with him just needing to be in a fullbody jumpsuit and skull helmet, the fire just shooting from his head vent, jaws and eyes would be easier than doing a full flaming skeleton CG job (But they didn't go for that for whatever reason)
Given the shape and size of the skull in Rider mode, im actually wondering if it is a mask thats CG enhanced. Its noticably larger than Lunas head when he's in Rider mode, marginally so, but visibly bigger, and the Jaw flays out like its sitting overtop of an existing head, which works because its supposed to look monsterous and integrates details from his helmet design.
Do any of the characters say anything to the akin of "that's not him" etc? I've heard it's implied that comic events happened in his backstory already off screen, and saw some scenes that look similar to the issues I read. I do distinctly remember some bad guys noting he's "different" and such. Does that ever happen? Do they ever imply that Blaze is already out there as well?

Unless Marvel comes out soon explicitly stating they're going to make a GR netflix show or an actual full movie, I sincerely doubt they're going to do any of that, especially any time soon. I doubt they would want the general audience getting confused between the two characters and I doubt they want to spend money on "the same thing" when there are a vast number of other characters they could be using their budget for, whether it be netflix or film.
