Considering the reputation of the last Spider-Man movies, going "hey this is actually made by marvel studios this time" is probably the most effective marketing strategy you could choose.
Especially how I still somehow see people in comments sections going "REALLY SONY??? ANOTHER REBOOT? BRING BACK TOBY MACGUIRE! NO ONE IS GONNA BE INTERESTED IF YOU KEEP WASTING YOUR PROPERTY LIKE THIS!!1" I don't wanna sound like a condescending media snob or anything, but spelling out that "no, forget Andrew Garfield, this one knows Iron Man" is probably the best way to go when advertising to the general public.
It's also kind of a victory cry for fans.
Holy shit, I don't know if this is part of his story in the comics, but in the last Legion episode they revealed the [sp]parasite[/sp] in David's head is the [sp]Shadow King [/sp]

Man, this one episode just made the rest of the show so make so much sense. It was so good. Also the not so subtle references to [sp]Prof. X [/sp] were really cool. [editline]24th March 2017[/editline] If you don't watch the show and want a quick summary of what's going on in David's head: [sp]The Shadow King and Xavier fought at some point leading to the death of the Shadow King. Xavier gave David to new parents to keep him safe, however the Shadow King latched onto David's mind and essentially haunted him for the rest of his life.[/sp] This is got really cool really fast.
Really pushing the MCU connections this time around. Not that im complaining.
One of the biggest things I liked about Dr Strange was the fact that they didn't have any obvious MCU references. It stood by itself on its own. I always hate when the pull the ol' "incredible green man" line out of the same damn book.

They saved NYC and have been in the public eye for at least half a decade. You can call him "the Hulk" or "Thor" ffs, this "HURR HURR WE DON'T HAVE A GUY WITH A HAMMER GEDDIT?" stuff was clever for five minutes in Daredevil Season 1 but I seriously can't stand it when they pull that shit now, after the Avengers have saved the world on multiple occasions and dropped a slavic shithole from the stratosphere.

"I hired a PI, she's great. When she's sober" A shirt with a bunch of bullet holes. Passing references, "People that can take bullets, blind men that can see" Actually saying their name. "The Devil of Hell's Kitchen"
Did the (spoiler for ending of doctor strange) [sp]timeloop trick that strange pulled on Doramammu, feel like an asspull to anyone else[/sp]
Did the (spoiler for ending of doctor strange) [sp]timeloop trick that strange pulled on Doramammu, feel like an asspull to anyone else[/sp]
I'd agree if I didn't think it was genuinely clever.
Because thats how concept artists do? Their job is to visually present an idea.
Could have used Ron Pearlman though.

When did Dr. Strange take place? Before his accident it was around Iron Man 2 because they mention that guy in the Exo-suit that was twisted. But I'm not sure what the timeline is after his surgery.
When did Dr. Strange take place? Before his accident it was around Iron Man 2 because they mention that guy in the Exo-suit that was twisted. But I'm not sure what the timeline is after his surgery.
The guy in the Exo-suit is a reference to Civil War
I've always assumed it's about Civil War (Is it too early to write to name of the character, because spoilers?) How do you guys managed to remember a single thing from Iron Man 2 is beyond me, well, unless you saw it recently
I thought it was referencing the Hammer prototype that twisted the pilot 180 degrees
The guy in the Exo-suit is a reference to Civil War
what would it have been referencing from civil war?
Found a text version of Strange's phonecall. The injured pilot is a Marine. Warmachine is an Airman. It's an Iron Man 2 easter egg, not Civil War.

Plus we do have spoiler tags [sp]
Yeah it's not a reference to Rhodey, he's USAF not a Marine. It's most likely an Iron man 2 thing just to show how far back in the past the injury takes place.
If his accident took place during Ironman 2, then the reference of his name in the Winter Soldier would make a lot more sense. However, how long does Dr Strange cover, from beginning of film to end then? They clearly mention the Avengers in the film, so the ending at least takes place after the Battle of New York.

I would wager that it started at iron man 2, being in the mountains is during avengers, then it's post ultron pre civil war?
I would wager that it started at iron man 2, being in the mountains is during avengers, then it's post ultron pre civil war?
This sounds about right, yeah. Would also explain why Strange was still all "magic doesn't exist, fuck you Dildo Swinton" despite a half-viking half-frost giant booping down to Earth through a magical space cube and opening a portal that unleashed space snakes into the middle of manhattan.

Maybe they didn't think it all through.
