Finally finished. Overall I'd say it's the weakest of the Netflix series by far, below JJ and DD, but probably a 7.5/10. My main complaint is probably that [sp]Cottonmouth was the most stand-out villain in the show, and we trade him for a stereotypical loon with daddy issues.[/sp]

Just finished it. It was pretty damn good, I'd say it had the best ending out of any of the Netflix series' (in terms of leaving me intrigued for what comes next). I also like the idea of Luke being a public figure, considering everyone else we got either operates in the shadows or is an Avenger. The ONLY thing I really didn't like was [sp]that scene with Method Man in the radio station. It felt like it was added in through reshoots or something, since it totally stops the episode to make a big political point about cops and black kids and hoodies, when the entire series had a very centrist point of view up to that point.[/sp] The show rebounded, the last episode was super strong, but that moment just killed the immersion for me in a moment when there was a lot of tense, interesting things going on in the story. Also, goddamn these villains were good. [sp]RIP Cottonmouth.[/sp] Hoping we get a soundtrack, I'd buy it.
Are you talking shit about "This is when the panties drop" Diamondback?
Yes, I am talking shit about [sp]"Luke, I am your fa-uh-brother"[/sp] Diamondback.
Yes, I am talking shit about [sp]"Luke, I am your fa-uh-brother"[/sp] Diamondback.
Im astonished that someone could dislike "Yes We Can" Diamondback. [editline]2nd October 2016[/editline] Sidenote, but i felt vibes of Luke Cage: Noir in the show, anyone else who read it feel it too?

Great character and actor but it didnt take much for cage to fuck him over[/sp]

That was so perfect that I had to pause and laugh.
Watched Luke Cage. It was pretty good. Diamondback and Turk absolutely hilarious. [sp] So fucking glad Zip didn't get Shades, holy shit that would have sucked. [/sp] I liked Misty? [sp] even if she couldn't stop fucking up and being infuriating, decent sideboob tho [/sp] but holy crap if you get your powers in an experiment [sp] you know it's going to be fucking uncomfortable [/sp]
I liked Ridley [sp] even if she couldn't stop fucking up and being infuriating, decent sideboob tho [/sp]
*Misty.
I enjoyed it. Very different take on things. My only complaints were stated before. Too many MCU references and way too many "hey look how clever we are with our imagery? In case you missed it let me repeat it 50,000 times" for my tastes.
I'm at the end of episode 4 now. That end of the episode with Cottonmouth [sp]firing a bazooka into the chinese restaurant[/sp] felt a bit overreacting and really extreme. [sp]He didn't know Luke can repel bullets, so why not go in and shoot him with a gun? A rocket launcher was severely way over-kill imho[/sp]
Apart from the biggie painting crown thing, what are you referring to?
I actually thought the crown thing was fairly creative.
I actually thought the crown thing was fairly creative.
Sure, but it was bordering on hitting the audience over the head with the metaphor, especially by the time [sp]Mariah got her own painting with a crown on it[/sp]
way too many "hey look how clever we are with our imagery? In case you missed it let me repeat it 50,000 times" for my tastes.
only 4 eps in but i can agree with that
Apart from the biggie painting crown thing, what are you referring to?
[Sp]judas [/sp] and a few other minor ones. It's not like there's a lot it's just they point them out multiple times as if you didn't get it on your own.
[Sp]judas [/sp] and a few other minor ones. It's not like there's a lot it's just they point them out multiple times as if you didn't get it on your own.
The funniest thing to me about that was that it pulled the [sp]if you can make god bleed, people will cease to believe in him[/sp] thing straight out of Iron Man 2. Fitting that it specifically related to a Hammertech product. (When will Sam Rockwell come back to the MCU. I miss him)
Man, that ending to Luke Cage was pretty unsatisfying to me. [sp]Basically, all the living villains got away scotfree while all the good guys had to pay the price one way or another[/sp] [sp]Hope The Defenders gives Luke his due justice[/sp]
Yeah, Rockwell's character is supposed to be in jail, when is he going to return?
[Sp]judas [/sp] and a few other minor ones. It's not like there's a lot it's just they point them out multiple times as if you didn't get it on your own.
There was one subtle interesting reference that was thrown in, even though it feels a bit hammy due to the constant biblical themes. [sp]In the first big fight scene between Luke and Diamondback, Luke halts him by smashing the columns holding the balcony together. This is similar to the Book of Judges, where Samson brings brings down a temple by the pillars despite his severely weakened state.[/sp]
Halfway through Luke Cage, [sp]his name is so well known now, how is it that SHIELD isn't on his case at this point?[/sp] Seems like the MCU is just incapable of tying all their shows and movies into one universe.

You notice that the Netflix shows only reference the Netflix shows.
ABC rights, maybe? You notice that the Netflix shows only reference the Netflix shows.
Production of the Netflix series is handled by ABC. They also reference the films, so they obviously don't just reference one another. Also minor complaint: in the MCU, Barack Obama wasn't president but characters in Luke Cage talk about him and the things he did as president.
Also minor complaint: in the MCU, Barack Obama wasn't president but characters in Luke Cage talk about him and the things he did as president.
Who's president? I don't recall them ever touching that in the movies, only cabinet members. Although I think there was a standard photo of President Bush in Rhode's military office in the first or second Ironman movie.
Iron Man 3 and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. both have the president: Matthew Ellis.
Production of the Netflix series is handled by ABC. They also reference the films, so they obviously don't just reference one another. Also minor complaint: in the MCU, Barack Obama wasn't president but characters in Luke Cage talk about him and the things he did as president.
One theory: obama is the pres. before avengers became a thing. The obamafied poster in Iron Man 3 is another example. 2008-2012 was when Obama served as president in the MCU. After that and powered people started coming in the current president Ellis had his platform centered around a lot of that which is why it is presumed he beat Obama for the 2012-2016 election. This also allows them to keep Ellis for four more years as president because of second terms. Another theory is that he ran for presidency but was not elected. So he's a household name, everything he's done works in continuity of the story.
President Ellis showing up in stuff since Iron Man 3 is something I really respect about the MCU I think he was also in those news snippets for Ant-Man and Civil War.

lol what was up with the chick in episode 5 [sp]coming out of fucking nowhere to give luke exposition[/sp]
ABC rights, maybe? You notice that the Netflix shows only reference the Netflix shows.
I wasnt aware that everyone hallucinated the Dogs of Hell in Agents of Shield before they showed up in Daredevil Season 2 The simple answer is Luke wasnt high profile enough. High enough to make it to local radio stations, but i mean shit Ghost Rider is running down dudes with a 69 Charger covered in fire while being shot at with rockets and SHIELD still doesnt know about his ass.
