Man I seriously hope that Marvel re-evaluates some parts of its formula with Infinity War. Like casting irony aside and giving us some sincerity. The DCEU is a trash fire, but Wonder Woman is one of the first superhero movies I've seen in a long time that wasn't half-comedy (or at least filled with jokes about how stupid the hero's kit and costume were).
Like, you want to have your Guardians and your Ant-Man that are action/comedy films, that's fine.
Funny enough, I feel like GOTG vol II was probably the most emotional MCU movie so far, at least to me.

I think a big part of it comes from the philosophy Gunn went into it with. I remember him saying how the first movie was all about how giving a shit about something is the coolest thing you can do. It was a big middle finger in the face of modern-day cool guy cynicism and ironic detachment.
I feel like whenever a movie needs to keep ironically winking at the audience, it belays a kind of insecurity in the director, like they're not talented enough to make us legitimately care about dudes in spandex "so here's a joke, see, we're on the same page, I know it's stupid too".
Guardians is a comedy, but the majority of the humor comes from the character interactions, rather than "he's a raccoon and that's like something out of a SILLY COMIC BOOK."

trash panda.
trash panda.
But that's better
Right?
Guardians 2 made me cry like a little bitch
I'm still trying to finish up Daredevil's second season (I'm around the ninth episode) and move onto Jessica Jones, but I admit, it's being hard.
I know they are taken straight from the comics, but honestly I couldn't give two shits about a war between two legacy ninja clans, especially since the first season was extremely well grounded in reality. Worse still, the whole Hand vs the Chaste arc steals screentime from the Punisher and, apparently, [sp]the return of the Kingpin[/sp].
Also, give me a fucking break with the whole romance-induced drama. Granted, even the first season had it, but it was measured: the second season is literally building romances and breaking them half the time (episode 8 is particularly bad about this: [sp]"My boyfriend is standing up near his bed with a woman in it, and there's also a old guy in the living room: he must be cheating on me for sure". Also, after a lot of episodes where Matt rebucked Elektra's avances every damn time now he suddendly wants her in his life. Ok[/sp]).
I'm sorry to bore you guys about a more than a year old TV series, but really, the first season was so fucking good in comparison.
Guardians 2 made me cry like a little bitch
I just watched it last night, it was noticeably more cartoon-like* than the last (like the [sp]faces in the 'jump' scene and Rocket's gravity bomb antics,[/sp]); but, man, they had some great heart-string pulling moments. [sp]Yondu's whole character arc, Nebula just wanting a sister, Peter arguing with Ego about his mother's death- the "couldn't bear to live on a planet without her" thing; not the "wish I didn't have to put a tumor in her" moment lol) [/sp]
I'm mixed on Drax becoming what seems like a full comic relief character and sometimes tried too hard to be funny. In the first movie, his seriousness and lack of understanding of metaphors and vernacular made him funny. Here he's more of an all brawn, little brains dummy who says inappropriate things. Additionally, some of the CGI looked off, noticeably green screen, and sometimes downright cheesy. The intro sequence, for instance, came off looking a bit like a Universal Studios ride.
All in all, a good fun movie.
Misc. thought:
[sp]I'm wondering how the rest of the MCU will acknowledge the big blue blob that popped out on Earth. If at all.[/sp]
omg
spider-man homecoming spoiler
Pretty big spoiler I feel like, even if it's an easter egg
[sp] Tony offers Peter a new suit that pays homage to The Iron Spider suit [/sp]
[sp]guardians is great because it focuses on the characters and the big epic scale battle is the backdrop.
that's also why avengers 1 was great and avengers 2 sucked. the first one focused on how despite the differences between each other, the power of teamwork and trust saved the day. the second one however, had no focus. it was just a generic CGI save the world scenario with no clear moral or message.[/sp]
In episode 11 of Daredevil's second season the writers managed to make the fucking Punisher give away bullshit romantic relationship advices.
I need a break from this (and promise not to annoy you guys further).

I don't know. He had a few serious moments, the biggest one being him talking about [sp] his daughter with Mantis. That scene made me feel sorry for him and showed us Drax acting like a father.[/sp]

I liked that scene (and the [sp]"BELIEVE IN THE DRAX WHO BELIEVES IN YOU" moment near the end[/sp]), but it really did feel like he was turned into a joke machine this time around, even moreso than Groot.
Like, even his action moments had to have something comical ([sp]getting swallowed by the badoon thing, comically getting dragged behind the Milano while shouting "DIE SPACESHIP!", the "ow my nipples" bit, etc.[/sp]) while basically everyone else got time to just be badass.
trash panda.
Oh yeah totally, but I also think context plays a big part in it though.
Like, compare the trash panda bit to Hawkeye's "I've got a bow and arrow, none of this makes sense" bit in Age of Ultron. In Guardians, the joke is "Chris Pratt made fun of the raccoon for being a raccoon", which we know is a sore spot from the previous movie.
In Ultron, the joke is "he's fighting robots with a bow and arrow, isn't that stupid? But we're calling attention to how stupid it is, so it gets a pass for being ironic".
It's honestly Whedon's achilles heel, he always comes off as massively insecure in his writing and his work usually suffers because of it (which then brings everything full-circle after the inevitable "NUH-UH, THE STUDIO RUINED MY PERFECT MOVIE, IT'S NOT MY FAULT" Twitter meltdown).
Whedon has Moffat-isms, he's just better at hiding them. His style of writing is really, really pathetic after a while.
I would rather have Gunn's worst fan-fiction as a movie than Whedon's best fiction.
Not only has he recycled the same five plot arcs, name me a character he's written in the MCU that doesn't resemble a character from Buffy.

Ah yes, my favorite personality type.
The Hip & Quip.
[editline]1st July 2017[/editline]
And if you're lucky, the Hip & Quip But Also A Dick variant.
Let's not forget the timeless "strong female character who has no traits other than being tough and a girl who has a nice mascara-smearing cry at one point to show us she's still ~vulnerable~ and not just a fetishized killing machine".
I know he meant to relate it to something else but holy fuck putting "I'm a monster" as a direct follow up to a scene where it's revealed that Black Widow is infertile.
Like, really, really
That one especially pisses me off because the Russos gave her and Cap such a nice bit of characterization in Winter Soldier, then Joss just tossed that all out in favor of "woah son watch your language there buster, golly gee" and "tee hee I'm always picking up after you silly boys ;3".
Not to mention completely torpedoing any chance of doing the canon Hawkeye/Widow romance in favor of shipping the hot sexy spy with the nebbishy dweeb who has anger issues :v:
I know the "I'm a monster" line was probably supposed to be directed to the fact that she was raised to be a cold emotionless futureless killing machine but the infertility comment was really unfortunate
You guys were right: the finale of the second season of Daredevil was extremely good, to the point [sp]I actually felt sorry for Elektra[/sp].
Still, I remain on my opinion: the second season has far more issues than the basically perfect first season, to the point some episodes really annoyed me.
Onto Jessica Jones

Do not expect it to be anything like Daredevil in any shape, way, or form. It is mostly a drama/thriller more than an action series like DD is.
just saw the new spiderman
tbh the first half of the movie was kinda boring before the later half suddenly decided it was time to be interesting (youll know when)
im still not exactly sure how i feel about it but i guess all i can take away from it right now is that for once we have an mcu villain thats [sp]not hellbent on being a psychopath or doing anything pointlessly extravagant[/sp], vulture was kinda unique for that and how he handled everything that happened by the end of the movie actually made him pretty respectable?
though im still peeved the movie took too long before it dropped the annoying high school cliches
[editline]6th July 2017[/editline]
also hate to sound like rusty100 all of a sudden but im also not sure how i feel about [sp]the future love of peters life being some girl who regularly stalks him everywhere at school, and the stalking only gets played off as a funny haha gag[/sp]
My only question is,
what's the post-credit scene

I actually enjoyed the movie a lot, specially the high school parts, the breakfast club and Ferris Bueller's references were great imo.
[sp]but why the fuck did they put that blonde girl obviously referencing to be Gwen Stacy to in reality be Betty Brant?[/sp] :what:
[sp]Also I remember seeing some leaked pics of Shocker using a mask, but we didn't get any scenes of him wearing it on the movie :[[/sp]
My only question is,
[sp]mid creds is just vulture in prison speaking to michael mando[/sp]
[sp]Which hints that he is probably gonna be Scorpion in the next movie.[/sp]
Was at Walmart earlier and saw some new editions of Spider-man film BLU-Rays

I have a bizarre soft spot for the MTV show, interesting to see it there.
I like how the laptop In the Spider-Man movie has [sp]a kc green and pc master race sticker[/sp]
Stan Lee's wife has passed away.
When Stan was close to giving up on comics, she encouraged him to finish writing the Fantastic Four.
Zendaya was the worst. Not just the acting but it felt like Pascal wrote Zen's character herself.
But... I'll give credit where it's due. The Flash kid, while I still think he's a poor cast fit for Flash Thompson, he gave a pretty good performance and I mind him a lot less having seen it now. Ned too.
This incarnations Betty was really weak but I got a sense that it was meant to be part of the humor/shtick. Didn't have to be Betty tho IMO.
Loved Glover, Keaton
Mando was awesome too but I wish he was [sp]Kletus Cassidy[/sp] instead of [sp]Mac Gargan[/sp]. His demeanor screams the former too.
[editline]7th July 2017[/editline]
Bokeem was a good shocker too. Like a lot of the characters, different take from what I'm used to but still fun. Also what happened to Matthew Lillard? Wasn't he supposed to be tinkerer in this?

Just saw it a bit ago and I agree with all of your points
Well actually I wasn't bored in the first half but still, your points on the villain and Michele I'm right there with ya
everything about the new spiderman was great
the character reveals and allusions were also amazing
I think this is a great route for reinventing spiderman to fit the current MCU
spider-man homecoming was really really good. Great villain, great story arc. Favorite Spider-man movie by far
I wonder if they're hinting at [sp] oscorp buying avenger's tower [/sp]. Think it will fit really well.
the movie had a lot of charm to it as well
