Work tomorrow is going to be like dragging my fucking face across concrete.
With all the flurry of threads and subforums mixing together, I thought I'd remind everyone that this thread is still here with a bump trailer for the next season:
"Vikings" Season 3 will kick off its premiere episode on Feb. 19, at 10 p.m. on History Channel. First episode name is "Mercenary."
We're going to Paris, boys!
Yknow, for about 5 minutes I was writing a really dumb, satirical fan fiction paragraph and then I decided not to, unless people want to hear it

show's neat, but how do they expect me to believe Bjorn went from a tiny little kid to a huge man in four years that's bullshit
show's neat, but how do they expect me to believe Bjorn went from a tiny little kid to a huge man in four years that's bullshit
Vikings have powerful magics.
I've never watched this but I fucking love vikings (Studying them in University atm) So I suppose it's worth me watching this?
Yeah, not going to expect it to be completely accurate
show's neat, but how do they expect me to believe Bjorn went from a tiny little kid to a huge man in four years that's bullshit
he's a big baby and simply got taller shit, i pretty much did all my growing in about 2-3 years anyways, i am hype for tonight but sadly i won't be able to join ye on this fine expedition because i have to go finish season 2. i'll be back for next week's raid.
I can't join either on account of a night calculus exam :( maybe upon second airing later
Why not. As with all just expect they will take artistic liberties at times.
My mothers an archeologist and she spends her days looking for/examining viking relics. Basically she knows alot about vikings and she was surprised how accurate the series was at representing the culture. I mean, of course they crank some things up for the aesthetics but they did their homework.
i started watching recently and got up to the bit where[sp]they first sail over and stumble on the monasteries. is pretty cool to me because my hometown is in that area and i have been to lindisfarne many times, you can still go there and see all of the old monastery ruins/museum and they have a viking festival every year with reenacted battles.[/sp]
How accurate was the [sp]monastery[/sp]?
i think it's pretty accurate they really did just fuck shit up without any real resistance.
Nnnng, good episode. Can't wait for next week's.
Oh hey, I thought the third season wasn't going to air until May. The only other show I'm currently watching is Better Call Saul so this is a welcome surprise.
At what point did the troops of [sp]Mercia think the enemy would willingly divide their forces to attack both banks of the river?[/sp] :v:
That's what I want to know. He seemed [sp]legitimately shocked when they all attacked the weaker force, like that was some kind of genius move no one could have foreseen.[/sp]
At this point I think it's safe to say the Saxons weren't very good tacticians. I mean, [sp]King Egbert himself had to decipher Julius Ceasar's Gaul campaign to figure out flanking and ambushing.[/sp]
Maybe if it were a Saxon force, [sp]they would have attacked both sides of the river[/sp], with "god's help" and all that jazz?
Maybe if it were a Saxon force, [sp]they would have attacked both sides of the river[/sp], with "god's help" and all that jazz?
I think their original idea was [sp]to be present on both banks in order to wipe most of them out with archers during the surprise attack. As you can see after they go towards a single bank, the archers can't reach much further than the middle of the river with their arrows. If they were regrouped on a single bank all the enemy would have to do would be to go for the other bank to evade them. Then again Mercia had superior forces so splitting them up isn't really making the most out of it. It's not like their volleys had the punch they were expecting anyway.[/sp] [sp]That still doesn't explain their surprise when the mercenaries all attack the same bank at once though. In my scenario they'd be disappointed by their initial impact and realize they're fucked from that point on. I think the most rational explanation is that they're simply dumbasses.[/sp]
Excellent fucking episode, I missed this shit [sp]As for the battle, my immediate thought went to the possibility of the Uncle's forces having hidden strength behind the hill they were on/in the shrubs nearby and presented a tempting and easy target with it not actually being so. At least, thats what would've done, but no I guess the Saxons are dumbasses[/sp]
