turns out they dont [editline]4th March 2013[/editline] also they didnt capture the social norms and behaviour of the vikings very good - this playful mentality of the characters doesn't fit in at all it's like watching modern american people dress up in viking outfits and pose with weapons still, im gonna continue watching and see how it turns out
Sounds pretty awful, I'll pass. Seen too many Hollywoodized renditions of vikings to bother with a series that follows the same tropes.
first two episodes on hulu http://www.hulu.com/watch/462374 also adding to op
Are you guys kidding? I thought it was great and showed a lot of promise. Definitely going to look forward to this for the coming Sundays.
has perfect pacing aswell, rather watch this than the walking dead

What are those little patches of hair on their chins? Is that their petty little excuses of a beard? This isn't HBO that they can cram every real life detail into. For another, it's the history channel, do you really think it'll be historically accurate?
I really like the Nordic accents. Cast pulled it off without sounding forced.
i'm pretty sure this is one of those shows where you know they're obviously speaking nordic, but because a majority of english-speaking peasants will be watching, they just went with the easier part of having everyone speak english. also, they apparently capture a monk and he can speak their language (which is surprisingly english!), so i think we could be having some anglo-nord cross dialogue scenes soon. also, has anyone watched episode 2 yet? it's on hulu, i'm waiting for sunday, since my sister and i watch this together.
I'll wait until Sunday to watch the next episode. Feels like cheating to watch it any sooner and also means I have to wait longer for episode 3.

vikings scores 8.3 million for the premiere episode, that's more than the premiere of walking dead, it's also more than any single episode in the first season. http://www.joe.ie/entertainment/entertainment-news/wicklow-shot-show-vikings-gets-top-viewer-ratings-0035065-1 also for those who have seen the first episode, this may be interesting to you http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2013/03/07/vikings-sunstone-crystal-myth/1970277/
bump reminder, just a little over 3 hours till episode 2.
[sp]"If she wants to sleep with you, you have my permission"[/sp] Pfft, yeah I'm not buying that.
alright [sp]rape[/sp] this show is either destined for greatness or destined for greatness.
Haraldson, wtf are you doing [sp]You don't go killing off anyone you suspect of being against you, especially a blacksmith who is such a vital profession to the community[/sp] Seriously, what the christ
"THIS IS MY BOAT"
oh shit the [sp]church[/sp] scene "he cannot protect anyone, he is not alive!" 10/10
Technically it's a monastery :v: [editline]10th March 2013[/editline] Earl Haroldson seems like a crappy villain to me. He's a very one dimensional character whose words and actions repetitively enforce the fact that he's paranoid of losing power with zero redeeming qualities or traits to make him even half sympathetic to.
^well this is based on an old hierarchal system of ruling. top boss gets all plunder, everyone else gets fuck all. not too much room for char dev if ya know what i mean. his wife however seems pretty fucked up, i'm sure we'll see some more crazy shit from her in the future.
3rd episode out yet?
Third episode came out the day after the second one aired, but on the history channel website somewhere. [editline]14th March 2013[/editline] I hope they explain how the priest/monk [sp]understands their language with a better explanation than, "We're suppose to explore and convert"[/sp] [editline]14th March 2013[/editline]
^well this is based on an old hierarchal system of ruling. top boss gets all plunder, everyone else gets fuck all. not too much room for char dev if ya know what i mean. his wife however seems pretty fucked up, i'm sure we'll see some more crazy shit from her in the future.
Well I'm sure even back then rulers would know if you piss off enough of the populace, they'll overthrow you. Especially in such a small community.
Man. I had no idea about this show until a little bit ago. Just watched all three episodes. I must say I'm impressed. Except for the following things: [sp] The way the Jarl kills off everyone including children is nothing more than character demonizing. The writers are trying to build up a hatred for the character so that when someone kills him, we get excited. Makes him seem very one dimensional. Floki is a really interesting character, so far hes my favorite. I just wander how/why he made Ragnar's boat so fucking intricate. Time was of the essence and I doubt Floki was able to make all those decorations in a short amount of time. And stop speaking English holy shit.[/sp] Anyways, I really hope this show becomes a huge success. I want History channel to start producing series like AMC is doing. Instead of reality TV show bullshit (pawn stars etc.) Can't wait for the fourth episode! [editline]14th March 2013[/editline] [sp]Also the ending of episode 3 was really fucking well done. Instead of just having both parties charge each other, they had this awkward dialogue that really built up the tension. The sheriff gives his chain as a gift, then Floki just walks up and yanks this guys cross off. Fucking perfect.[/sp]
[sp]And stop speaking English holy shit.[/sp]
[sp]Yeah it's weird how they weave between Norse(?) and English. The scene with the Northumbrians was good though, one side speaking whatever, the other Old English (Again, ?). I'd like it more if it was all subtitled like that, but I very much doubt they have the time or will to teach every actor new languages. It's a pretty good show though, for History.[/sp]
The guy who plays Erik sounds like Ulfric...
nah, if you really want a viking game, play either rune, battle for asgard, or the kingdom of nords in m&b.
Brytenwalda is a good dark age/viking warfare mod for M&B Probably the most unrelentingly hard game I've ever played though.
The store, like all tv merch stores, is a bit overpriced but has some fucking awesome shit. http://shop.history.com/vikings/index.php?v=history_show_vikings&icid=text-promo-vikings IM FUCKING BUYING THIS. http://shop.history.com/mjollnir-necklace/detail.php?p=445811&v=history_show_vikings It's thors hammer with the handle being a fucking tree and the pommel is a goddamn viking helmet. [editline]15th March 2013[/editline] Oh wow. Just rebranded stuff, quick google searches found it for cheaper :v: [editline]15th March 2013[/editline] Literally the second example on googlesearch is six bucks cheaper. With this show and The Bible, I'm actually watching the History Channel again. Who'da thought. Obviously The Bible will end when it ends but I hope Vikings grows into something like Game of Thrones.

^I'm gonna agree with that, I'd love to see more raiding & pissing off the Jarl while Ragnar just keeps on smiling and making us all gay for him.
