yeah fuck people with different opinions
also was this episode [sp] the first episode where Jesse calls Walter Walter, instead of just Mr. White? [/sp]
[sp]He called him Walt once in Season 2 episode 6[/sp]
So I watched the episode finally.
God damn that was intense.
This is seriously starting to come together into one big explosion and holy gods
if it's not nuclear
I don't know I won't be disappointed, but I'll be surprised
They weren't even "slow." They were quicker paced than most of the episodes in past seasons. Yeah they aren't breakneck fast, but they're definitely above average. I don't think anyone who's been watching the show week-by-week and not through netflix would call these episodes boring.
I define slow as being "less exciting." The ricin discovery and "tread lightly" scenes were incredible, most of the scenes in the last episode are really just setting up for the major and symbolic developments in later episodes.
keep in mind this is lightspeed compared to like s2
I'm getting sick of people calling this show boring.
Especially for this season. So far season 5 has been the least boring season of the entire show. The plot is moving like a speeding bullet consistently with each episode.
[editline]2nd September 2013[/editline]
Just because you may have marathoned it on Netflix in a few days and now have to wait between episodes, does not make it boring.
Agreed, people always bitch to me how the show needs to be more action paced and I remember someone even saying that the pacing should be like 24 or some shit like that. I love action and all, but shows and movies that don't do a lot of action have more substance than anything that's full blown action the whole time. Look at Mad Men, another really great show that people blow off because there's no action whatsoever, or the movies Melancholia and Tree of Life, people can't seem to pay attention and appreciate the story in a show or movie.
keep in mind this is lightspeed compared to like s2
This is my biggest point right here. If you watched all of season 2 in like 3 days you'd have no clue how it felt to those watching one episode a week. To those people, this is like a 16 episode long season finale.

Looks like it's Walt vs Jesse now.
Shits gonna get real.
who cares if it's faster than the other ones?
I just want the to see the show get intense and conclude, I've been watching it for like 2 years
You can't have the intensity without the stuff before it. If everything was always action packed, you wouldn't feel incredibly tense during scenes where you're supposed to be on the edge of your seat.
[editline]3rd September 2013[/editline]
And plus, wanting to see the show conclude already isn't exactly a good thing, it almost sounds like you just want to see it end as soon as possible. Just like how I watch Dexter just to see how it ends because it's so damn bad now.
In the latest podcast, Vince said "Dramatically, it's good not to give the audience what they want, to make them wait for it." [sp]Even if the intro to 512 is pretty uneventful and anti-climactic, they made that tradeoff for the tension they were able to build with Walt searching for Jesse. Same goes for the scene with Walt and Jesse in the plaza.[/sp]
Was hoping Walt would push Flynn into the pool :'(

[sp]this part of the ep made me feel pretty sad about the whole situation. how hank knew walt before realizing his criminal stuff and how as a family they spent a lot of time together, how jesse looked up to walt and liked him and everything. it's like, when they took that photo they had no idea walt was who he is/would end up being and it's pretty upsetting[/sp]
Some interesting notes from the latest podcast:
[sp]- The director of 512 (Sam Caitlin) is married to the actress who played Skyler's divorce lawyer in Season 3. They considered bringing her back for Season 5, but they couldn't figure out a way to fit her into the story.
- After 511, the writers weren't sure if Jesse should succeed in burning down the house. Of course, the 509 teaser showed the house intact, but at one point the writers considered the possibility of Walt's house just being an empty lot. This idea was shot down because they needed Walt to procure the ricin, and that removing Walt's house from the neighborhood wouldn't be an easy task, even with special effects.
- Speaking of 509, they also filmed a scene for the 509 teaser where the audience sees a large spot on the White house subfloor. It was just done to keep the audience guessing and the writers weren't sure what that spot would actually mean, but gasoline wouldn't actually leave a large discoloration in the floor like that and the spot wasn't very visible to the camera, so they cut it.
- They also cut Jesse's full confession that Hank and Gomez recorded. The full scene will be released as a special feature in the DVD release.
- For security reasons, members of the crew received redacted versions of the scripts during pre-production, with scenes like Walt calling Todd at the end of 512 being redacted. Apparently, one of the extras ran away with a script in an earlier season.
- The cake with Vince's head on a tortoise wasn't actually a cake. It was just styrofoam with icing around it. Vince learned this the hard way.[/sp]
Most likely going as Walt for Halloween(or Jesse, the costume works either way). Couldn't find any affordable red cowboy boots for men so my original costume plan fell through.
Probably going to buy this straight from the AMC store: http://www.breakingbadstore.com/hazmat-suit-costume/details/28793774
Could probably get it a bit cheaper buying parts separately, but a lab coat and respirator meant to be a costume might be a bit more comfortable to wear for a long period of time. The included goatee looks a little cheesy, might try to grow out my own.

My friend and I have a similar idea. He's going to be Jesse while I'm Walt. We're gonna sit in my RV and hand out blue rock candy.

[sp]i actually thought that was kind of a sad little moment, it makes the fact that walt and hanks relationship and also walt and jesse's relationship are completely ruined now. it's sort of a reminder that walt used to be a nice guy, or at least seemed like a nice guy. i think the santa suit thing is really fitting, because who's more benevolent than santa?[/sp]

I'm really excited to see that. [sp]I was hoping to see at least part of it in this episode, like at least skipping around his confession, showing the major parts. I wonder if by "full confession" they mean every detail, or if it's really brief and only goes over huge things. This episode implied Jesse told him everything, but(even though they cut it) I doubt they would film a confession of that length.[/sp]
That lab suit is certainly going to be uncomfortable, the only way the respirator won't be uncomfortable is if it doesn't actually filter anything (aka it has fairly large slits that you can easily breathe through)
I don't even think Hank is a bad guy after this episode. I know a lot of people do, but you have to look at it from his point of view. We as the viewers know Jesse shows actual contrition for what he has done and we have watched him grow and develop as a person from that small-time junkie in episode one to an emotionally complex character but Hank hasn't. To Hank he's still just a reckless junkie who helped his brother-in-law create a criminal empire and someone like that is damn sure dispensable to Hank.

Which is why I'm buying a costume lab coat and respirator instead of real ones, even if it costs an extra 20 bucks or so.
So far all the talk has been about the story, but how about the performance?
I think Bryan Cranston is superb this season, Aaron Paul too, especially in the scene where when talking to Hank, he says Walt can't keep getting away with what he's doing.
I would be shocked if this year's emmys weren't dominated by Breaking Bad again
Here's something to rev up those people that believe Walt takes something from everyone he kills.
[sp]In the flashforward of Live Free or Die, Walt takes his coffee black. In Rabid Dog, Jesse takes his coffee black as well.[/sp]
Probably nothing, but it's enough to drive a few people crazy.
Also, [sp]in Low Winter Sun, Frank takes his coffee black!!! He even uses the same phrasing: "black's good"[/sp]

I'd be incredibly surprised if anyone on this show won a grammy.
[editline]3rd September 2013[/editline]
Maybe Bryan Cranston, but I'm not sure if even he is good enough to pull that off.
Gale's Major Tom deserved a Grammy for sure
[sp]I think jesse changed his mind right before making the "confession" and didn't actually confess to anything, and he didn't want to meet walt because even though he is mad at walt, he doesn't want to stab him in the back yet.[/sp] Might be going far out on a limb here, but thats what I'm thinking

Screw the Saul spin-off.
I'm holding out for The Adventures of Beaver and Whatshisname

Maybe you missed a scene or something, but [sp]Jesse pretty clearly told Hank and Gomez everything. After the confession scene, Hank discusses with Gomez if they should start pursuing Lydia or the Drew Sharp disappearance. They know everything now.[/sp]
The best ending to the series would be if [sp]Gale came back as a zombie and ate everyone.[/sp]
