Hank was a good guy, but [sp]he succumbed to the same kinds of ruthless evils near the end, when he threw Jesse to the wolves by sending him to Walt without caring in the plaza.[/sp]
It's just that [sp] All the bad things that Walt did he did because he had to, to protect himself and his family, while everyone around him kept systematically fucking him over and putting him in a position where he had to be bad and so many of the things he did were not directly his fault nor were done with bad intentions. No-one wanted to or could possibly understand why he did the things that he did and assumed the worse, again not his fault that he was surrounded by ungrateful assholes. Besides, if he hadn't been making meth then someone else would have been and his reasons for doing so were far more noble than anyone else's, he wasn't even greedy, he just flew too close to the sun. [/sp]

[sp]Except that's wrong. He did it all out of arrogance, ego, and pride. Listen to what he says in Felina.[/sp]

[sp] I know what he said, I just think that it's completely out of line with the rest of the show and that he only said it for Skyler, I'm sure that, that certainly became a part of it but was by no means his driving force.[/sp]

Maybe season 2 Walt. It was all for ego and greed when he accepted Gus' offer at the beginning of season 3.

All this talk of Walter's ego and such, while true, often forgets another detail of Walt: he saw himself as low. He was at such a low point, that when saw an opportunity to get out of that pit, he grasped it, embraced it, cherished it, and let that aspect thrive. He didn't want to go back to hating his life, so he kept building on what made him not hate his life.

Worst opinion on this season 2 part ever. She only wanted Jesse's money.

she didn't know about his money when she got with him, no?
plus when i posted that i actually didn't even watch to the part with the money

She knew. Hence her trying to enforce Jesse to pressure Walter into paying up.
Jane was only a [sp]little manipulative drug addict.[/sp]
"she was a drug addict so she deserved to die"
man I never understood how those of you who try to force black and white morality on this show can even enjoy it when you're clearly not getting the point

It's not that. It's for the way she [sp]tries to persuase Jesse and manipulate his mind. She stayed with him only for his being wealthy.[/sp]

and Walt was only using Jesse to make money too, what's the difference. She wasn't "only with him for the money" she just thought it was an opportunity for both of them to get away and start new lives. Manipulation was never implied, only inferred by Walt apologists. Unlike Walt, who explicitly manipulated him on numerous occasions.

At least, Walt did care about Jesse by [sp]not giving him at first his part of money while he was clearly not able to think or act.[/sp]
I still argue that his "caring" was a lot more pragmatic and less legitimate than Jane's. If he didn't feel like he needed Jesse for his operation he would have let him run off and buy all the drugs his little heart could handle.
There are no good or bad guys on this show.
I don't want to use absolutes, but typically people are not 100% good or 100% bad. Saying there's no good or bad guys in Breaking Bad is like saying there are no good or bad people on Earth. You can usually classify someone as good or bad based on their overall intentions in a specific matter.
[sp]Hank was okay risking Jesse's life as bait, which is obviously not a good thing. But overall Hank's goal was to take down the most notorious and dangerous drug dealer. He's trying to save lives, and of course get an addictive and dangerous product off the streets. And you also have to remember, Jesse isn't really innocent in Hank's eyes. To Hank, Jesse is just Walt's accomplice, another drug dealer with a body count, and after all their encounters you can see why Hank isn't too worried about his safety. Overall Hank was acting with good intentions. Using someone as bait without even intending to protect them from harm is wrong. But when you weigh both sides, in my opinion at least, it comes out as Hank having good intentions and overall being a "good guy," but he also resorted to some wrongdoing towards the end.[/sp]
I still argue that his "caring" was a lot more pragmatic and less legitimate than Jane's.
That's completely arguable, tho I don't want to clog the thread with our discussion. I simply dislike Jane as a character, maybe my first impression on her was overly-cynical.
For the record I do agree that overall she was a corrupting influence on Jesse. Of course, so was Walt (and Walt was the catalyst for Jesse's depression, and subsequently Jane's relapse and Jesse's spiraling drug use). Again, I'm not saying she's a perfect angel but "deserves to die" is pretty absurd, that whole arc is imo the best gray morality one in the entire show.

I realized I was exaggerating, I edited that part out in my post.
Jane was only a [sp]little manipulative drug addict.[/sp]
What about the whole [sp]18 months clean[/sp] thing then?
Jesse fucked her up. It's entirely his fault she got back into Heroin. That's probably why he feels so bad when she dies.
Jesse fucked her up. It's entirely his fault she got back into Heroin. That's probably why he feels so bad when she dies.
Jesse asked her to leave when he decided to do meth again, so she could stay clean. She chose to come with him anyway, and then follow that great decision up with introducing him to heroin. It's entirely her fault she got back into it, and later choked on her own vomit.
Still, it was fairly obvious that she really liked him, and that he loved her. Perhaps the money took a piece of that love for itself when it was introduced though.
Her "love" for Jesse completely became something else when she realized he had loadsemoney and influence.
