i genuinely haven't been this excited about doctor who since i was in secondary school, this is so good
Someone's touchy
*hammers the dumb button on any vaguely positive comment about the doctor being a woman* hmm this person who just told me to stop commenting sure is touchy - unlike me, a completely calm and level headed paragon
The most exciting part of this announcement is that as a straight man I can FINALLY fancy the Doctor -- this is a dream come true.
For fun.

Now I really want that
Great success :v: I'm glad to have our little DW sanctuary here right now. We're still possibly over a year out to Whittaker showing us what she can really do with the part. It's going to be a long road to acceptance. At least there's plenty of time for the gender change to sink in.
Anyone saying the show will be cancelled and they will never watch again will just contribute to the Chibnall era starting off with solid ratings. One way or another, this is already the shot in the arm we needed.
And if they hate it, it will be a Bigger flop then Chris Evans Top Gear

jesus christ this comment goes from 0-100 pretty quick what is wrong with these people
First world problems
Chibnall went straight for it.
I always knew I wanted the 13th Doctor to be a woman and we're thrilled to have secured our number one choice. Her audition for the Doctor simply blew us all away. Jodie is an in-demand, funny, inspiring, super-smart force of nature and will bring loads of wit, strength and warmth to the role. The 13th Doctor is on her way
Capaldi
Anyone who has seen Jodie Whittaker's work will know that she is a wonderful actress of great individuality and charm. She has above all the huge heart to play this most special part. She's going to be a fantastic Doctor.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-40624288
I've regenerated
Couldn't care less who plays the Doctor aslong as this new writer writes good stories for her, which I've heard alot of good about in the past. Peter deserved better than Moffat but atleast he got an amazing first half season and a pretty good final season
The new sidekick's gonna be a guy right? I really hope he's gay. I don't want to see any sexual tension between him and the Doctor. It's not inherently bad, but it's overdone in Doctor Who, it was refreshing not to have it with Capaldi and also I don't trust the writers not to do it badly.
I was extremely sceptical when the rumours about Jodie started, but the promo has me more excited. I am looking forward to this. She actually has the look of the Doctor.

People can just be friends instead of weird tensions throughout the whole series. Please.
Just have them be normal. People can just be friends instead of weird tensions throughout the whole series. Please.
so are you saying gay isnt normal
I mean tbf, crying about the people crying about the supposed "problem" isn't going to do anything, other than adding more shit to that stupid ass pile, it's not like they have any real power other than bitching about it, so why bother. Long as the stories are good, The Doctor is The Doctor.
im super glad its not moffat writing for her tbh, i know a lot of people here liked missy and river, but their characters were just TOO similiar, every important female moffat writes for who isn't a companion is just overly-flirty in a really uncomfortable way, it really irritated me, so I hope we get a kind of motherly type role for whittaker.
Doctor Who's writing quality has been barely passable this season, with some high highs and some pretty low lows, it was dreadful for a fair bit of Clara's screen time and hasn't really been great since Smith's first season ended. I'm just really worried they'll cock this up, and a drastic change (Chris Chibnall is calling this a change and a risk, let's not pretend like it isn't) while the show is barely on its feet in terms of writing is worrying. I'd have prefered they played it safe until they can prove to us lot that they can put out episodes of consistently passable quality.
so are you saying gay isnt normal
No I'm saying just have them have absolutely zero romantic interest in the doctor, in the same way I have zero romantic interest in you (a/s/l). People can just be normal friends, with some sick ass sci fi stories

And Donna had no interest whatsoever, she was just a friend.
time lord or time lady when I imagine her saying "I'm the Doctor. I'm a time X from the planet Gallifrey." it sounds better with time lord so I think it should still be time lord, right? but apparently Romana was a "time lady". hmm.

I hope she'll stay for more than a series
i cant believe people are actually getting angry over this, jesus christ.
The Rani addressed herself as a Timelord so I'd imagine The Doctor will too
Didn't they go over that in one of the last episodes of this season? Bill pointed it out or something.
Also it's "technically" a title, as you can very well be an honorary Time Lord, for instance, Ace is a non-Gallifreyan Time Lord. But yeah like I said before, they use whatever they deem appropriate, if you want to call yourself a time lady, who cares, it's not like the Time Lords themselves give a shit, they are far above that petty shit.
Didn't they go over that in one of the last episodes of this season? Bill pointed it out or something.
that's why I remembered it, bill said something along the lines of "you don't use the concepts of gender but you still call yourselves timelords?"
I'm really excited for this! It's a big change, exactly what the show needs. Capaldi is a great doctor but the show itself got really stale for me. The episodes became really forgettable.
