Hopefully it doesn't go from male to female to male to female etc though. I do hope it'll still be 75% male doctor, 25% female as the show has mostly had a male suited to the role...
Maybe Time Lords have dominant gender. Like how The General was male only once (his 10th regeneration I think)

I loved how fresh S5 was to S4. Unfortunately Moffat's ideas and creativity dragged a lot. Would be lovely if we got a new head writer for every new Doctor we got.
You seem to be suggesting that in order to get the best actress / actor for the job we will naturally have to make about 75% of them male? Did you think about your post before you wrote it?
Honestly, I'm happy to open the role up to as many women as possible. Pretty much any demographic that represents Britain should have a shot (acknowledging of course that Britain is a multicultural society). That way we can assess solely based on the best actor for the job at the current time given the Doctor's overall character arc. It will only help.
I can tell I'm going to love her already. I can't wait for S11.
It's BS. You can sign up with a fake name and email address if you want and that's it. I was expecting something more formal after all the build up to it.
I'm a paranoid mofo though
Who honestly expected the Doctor to not be a Female this time around?
It was obvious as day, even before Peter was announced to leave.
I found someone claiming Sydney Newman wouldn't have approved. Yet what was his recommendation to Michael Grade to save the show in the face of stagnation and falling ratings?
At a later stage Doctor Who should be metamorphosed into a woman. This requires some considerable thought – mainly because I want to avoid a flashy, Hollywood Wonder Women because this kind of heroine with no flaws is a bore.
How was it obvious?
I assume it would be a man.
it all depends on whether you believe moffat knew what was coming or not when he was writing the finale.
"is the future going to be all girl?"
"one can only hope"
if moffat knew, this was obviously a hint. if not it was a throwaway joke. it's hard to tell. apparently moffat didn't know who it was going to be but if knew the gender or not is another matter.
obviously now it would be easy to say "well obviously moffat definitely 100% knew" but back then we didn't know if it was going to be a woman or not so it could have gone either way.

Female Doctor 300% C O N F I R M E D for absolute certain mark my damn words (do not mark them)
[sp]okay it's probably just moffat hinting through the script that he wants to see a female doctor in the next series but still my hopes are pretty fuckin' hiiiigh[/sp]
i don't know exactly why, like, there isn't a single solid reason behind it, but i would've been seriously disappointed if the doctor wasn't being played by a female actor this time around. partly 'cos it's something new, and partly because the showrunners have been blatantly saying "it'll happen eventually" for years but now it's actually happening and it's exciting and new and fresh and to get to experience a change as massive and positive as this in a series that is over fifty years old is an incredible thing to witness
fact of the matter is i haven't been as excited for an upcoming series this much since eccleston regenerated back in 2005 so here we are
[sp]good fucking god i hope they don't mess it up[/sp]
i think the fact that you had to add the qualifier "it's probably just moffat hinting that he wants it" to your post mostly proves my point that it was hard to tell if it was confirmation or just a joke :v:
didn't moffat state that he had no idea who 13 was?
tbh we should have seen it coming, chibbers loves his strong women and whittaker was an obvious choice from broadchurch. dunno how it wasnt called months ago.

It was obvious he'd bring in someone from Broadchurch and you can't bring back Tennant so it definitely was going to be either Whittaker or Colman.
and you can't bring back Tennant
or can you
Hand!Doctor Strikes Back!
With Rose!
listen all I'm saying is that chibnall obviously likes putting david tennant on beaches with jodie whittaker
it all adds up
I have to say the most disappointing thing about this announcement to me isn't the sexists bitching about it (I mean, there's no way they'd ever accept it), it's all the people on the other side basically pre-emptively shitting on people for not supporting the decision.
You're not going to get anyone on your side when the first thing they see is basically "Fuck you if you aren't 120% on board with a female doctor. You're literally a sexist retard and you should feel bad you troglodyte."
I've never seen so much 'negative support' of something in my life. Like the people who love the change and the people who hate it are actively trying to fight each other before they even know their dissenters are even around.

*extremely unconvincing voice* i'm sure i don't know what you're talking about

The second the announcement happened the YouTube comments were a pit of angry flames and sorting reddit by controversial led to tons of awful comments - anyone who looked could see that. Me and my friends privately spent the day finding the most ridiculous ones to laugh at and oh boy was there a lot.
I've seen this same sentiment going around online that everyone is calling the people against it stupid without there actually being anyone against it but like.. there definitely is. It's maybe mellowed out a bit now but when the announcement first happened the comments were awful. Are they the minority? Sure - but a vocal section of the populace nonetheless.

People against it aren't stupid unless they are writing awful comments like you said. There are some people who have been against it, explained their reasons calmly, and then gotten on with their life. It's fine have people that like it and people that dislike it, as long as both sides are nice with each other.
Is the Master going to come back as Charles Dance now? Come on, Pleaaaasse!

okay. in the nicest way possible, i haven't heard a single argument against it that hasn't been phenomenally stupid

Rossy167 made some interesting points in the other thread. I don't know if you saw them, but you can have a look here if not:

I'm so tired of this being said.
Every companion's sexuality is pointed out, it's just nobody notices because they view it as "normal". Even Donna - the companion everyone says "I'm glad there was no romance between her and the Doctor" - had an entire episode about her being stuck in a virtual world in a relationship with a fake man. She was literally introduced by being "the runaway bride" while getting married to a man.
If Bill did any of these things and it was a woman people would use it as an example of being reminded she's lesbian. Imagine I complained "I just wish they'd stop reminding us Donna is straight" - ridiculous.

It's not like they just woke up one morning and thought "let's just make it a woman". There's a reason this wasn't done 20 years ago
no im sorry but this is just wrong. the way bill being gay was handled was so fucking bad it was laughable. 'btw im gay ahah' 'btw i dont like men' every SINGLE episode. it was an absolute joke.
i know what you're saying, but donna, or any other companion, didn't go 'btw i like men' every episode, they just showed interest in men. that's the way to do it. the best example is Jack - he didnt go 'i am pansexual' every episode, he just was.

*posts negatively about the doctor being a woman, about how people should respect others opinions, about how it's never been done before, about how Other People Who Are Against It have posted "interesting points", frequently about "why? why would they do this?", spends a day hammering the dumb rating on anyone who posted anything positive about the announcement, and then plays the semantics game*
no you're right, clearly you don't have an opinion on the matter. damn. you got me
