Anyone else feel like debussy's prime concern is to make the listener conscious of his intelligence?
For me Debussy's prime concern has always been to make me think France and Spain were in Asia.

Bela Bartok is my favorite
Man Totentanz is sweet, I felt like the variations form is a bit stale.

One of our local opera companies is putting on a production of Bizet's "Pearl Fishers" for the upcoming season, so here is the tenor/baritone duet from the first act "Au fond du temple saint" performed by American baritone Robert Merrill and Swedish tenor Jussi Björling. I've posted Nadir's romance from later in the first act as well, sung by the French-Canadian tenor Leopold Simoneau

I'm surprised nobody posted The Planets, or is WWI too new for your exclusive classical club?

I'm going through a bit of a Saint-Saëns phase, I feel like some of his music is from another planet and for some reason it makes me nostalgic although I have no idea why.

This is one of my favourite pieces at the moment, it's not Saint-Saëns though.

On an unrelated note my school choir are doing some awesome puccini pieces at the moment :buddy:

^ THAT fuckin' owns, Puccini owns, mass settings own.
We sang this a couple of weeks ago with harp accompaniment at sunday service in a church choir that I've got a job with (its an Episcopalian Church so we sang it in english rather than the original french). One of the most beautiful SATB choral pieces I've ever heard.
Cantique de Jean Racine, Op. 11 by Gabriel Fauré

spookily our school started doing the same piece recently in our smaller sixth form choir... (the cantique)
It's too bad, few people know's Chopin. You need to hear Chopin before you die. i cant think of life without Chopin. If you didn't listen his masterpieces before. You have to discover them as soon as possible. Here is the chance for you.

i've been listening to Bach's piano stuff lately, The Art of the Fugue and now Goldberg Variations, pretty wonderful
Chopin and bach are probably my two favourite composers for keyboard works, great stuff.
Why would you think Chopin isn't well known? He's regarded as one of the greatest composers for the piano ever.

Oh come on, there's zero point in caring how much Facepunch as a whole, care for artists.
99% of this section knows who Chopin was.
