I've heard people say Liszt is a 'piano composer', but his Orchestral works are great too.

Indeed, he did some wonderful choral works too.

Am I stupid or what?
:smug:
I bought a classic fm Beethoven collection today fully aware of how consistently bad classic fm's choice of performances are. I was dissapoint :(
So I purchased Ashkenazy's Rachmaninoff Symphonic Dances. YES!

Good stuff, and I got Isle of the Dead as well.
I don't even care I'm going to the charity shop I found and grabbing some LPs of classical music. If they're a pound each then it's a steal really.
Some on ebay fetch about £10+ depending on rarity.
Anyone here listen to Henry Purcell? Next to Bach he's probably my favorite Baroque composer.
Need more modern classical artists, any others?
Like, 20th Century? These guys aren't the most obscure so I dunno if you've already got stuff by them, but eh there's probably stuff here you haven't checked out.
Steve Reich (Music for 18 Musicians; Different Trains/Electric Counterpoint), John Adams (Harmonium; The Death of Klinghoffer), Stravinsky (Rite of Spring; Firebird), Bartok(Six String Quartets; Concerto for Orchestra;Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celestta), Phil Glass (Einstein of the Beach;Koyanisqastii) , Shostakovich (Symphony No. 5; 15), Schoenberg (Gurrelieder; Transfigured Night), Berg(Wozzeck; Chamber Concerto)
You, the man.
Anything youtubely you can provide?

If you like that one check out his Harmonielehre.
John Cage, Ligeti, Penderecki, Schoenberg, Webern, Berg, Xenakis, Ornstein, Lyatoshynsky, Antheil, Stockhausen, Bartok, Scriabin(later pieces), Morton Feldman, Schnittke, Enno Poppe(Not a very well known figure, but he's one of my favorites!), John Adams.
That should do you for moderns, if you want recommendations please do specify which composer, currently I can't be assed to recommend pieces from all of them.
John Cage
Okay, I've listened to him before but not in the sense that I'd like. Know anywhere to start with that dude?
It depends. John Cage has a very eclectic compositional style.
Personally, I'm a fan of his earlier style(Daughters of the Lonesome Isle, Our Spring Will Come, Bacchanale, Mysterious Adventure), but his later more experimental style is good too(Tape Music, Imaginary Landscape(s)).
Anyone here listen to Henry Purcell? Next to Bach he's probably my favorite Baroque composer.
I adore Purcell, he is such a wonderful composer.. British too :D If you like Purcell you will love Croft. Purcell taught Croft everything he knew.. so their music is very similar. I recommend Suite No.3 in C minor. What a fantastic piece for Harpsichord.
I have a good cello Bach album, but lacking in many others.
Are there any other interesting modern artists like Igorrr and World's End Girlfriend that mix classical music with other genres?

Badass album art.
if you look like a viking bard/storyteller you can plaster your image on most things and it'll look badass
Figured this thread could be improved with some Scarlatti. Probably my favourite Baroque composer.
