so much lore they took out that was built up before.
I'm not going to call shark hopping yet, but compressing an entire season into that few episodes probably wasn't too bright.
we already know from the last two seasons carter doesn't do compression well.

Honestly, the constant [sp]everything that happened in the series before THIS EPISODE is a LIE[/sp] stuff annoyed me enough when it happened like 2-3 times in the original series.. Starting the reboot with the same lazy excuse for continuing the story puts a bad taste in my mouth.

I think [sp] the point is that that is only half true. There was aliens, and clearly still are, and there is also folk trying to steal their shit and take over the world.[/sp]
[sp]Also smoking man v.2 was... it was something[/sp]

:xfiles:
I loved it for the simple fact that it felt genuine. It didn't feel like something new or different. It felt like an episode of The X-Files. The characters slipped back into their roles like the last episode was yesterday. Even the background music had the same feeling.
Gonna be honest, I enjoyed the new episode. It doesn't feel on par with earlier seasons of the X-Files, but as it was stated, Carter can't do compression good enough. I got the same feeling as I did from later seasons of the X-Files. Just waiting for a Monster of the Week from this miniseries!
Big long post regarding the premiere that would be easier to just spoiler tag in its entirety than have a million different bits to track down
[sp]Just saw it. It worried me, but I'm not ready to give up hope yet. X-Files had some rough patches before, but ultimately the writing team still had a coherent idea that pulled through.
I'm not a fan of Mulder immediately jumping ship and going back to the "it's not aliens at all, it's actually just men pretending to be aliens!" rationale. He already did this before in the series, so I'm not saying it's out of the question, but it took a very intense, thoroughly planned and well executed scheme to get him to abandon his beliefs (as well as multiple episodes but hey), not just chatting with some hokey TV celebrity and some random woman who claimed to be an alien abductee but didn't give much more information other than the most basic, stereotypical alien abductee tropes you could think of. And even then, Mulder eventually saw enough that he went back to believing anyway. And all that was in the MIDDLE of the series, before all the loose ends started getting tied up and Mulder started to really find what he'd been looking for. At this point he should be unshakable in his conviction that the government conspiracy revolves around alien colonization (he even had it all laid out for him in the series finale), not simply the government trying to escape a coming extinction.
I'm also especially not a fan of how heavyhanded they got with the political bullshit when they all met up in Sveta's house near the end. Politics isn't out of the question when it comes to government conspiracies but this particular instance just reeked of /r/im14andthisisdeep.
Finally, Smoking Man being back after getting blown to shit feels weird but I'm still willing to see how it plays out. He apparently recovered after being wheelchair-bound, and being thrown down a flight of stairs, and we're no stranger to men who can regenerate after being thoroughly annihilated. If they truly go balls to the wall though like how the S10 comic did, and bring back Krycek and The Lone Gunmen, I would be pissed.
(PS I like how they went back to how Duane Barry's testing area looked for Sveta)
(PPS You can really tell they tried as hard as possible to cram famous series taglines like "I want to believe" and "The truth is out there" into this as much as they can if for no reason other than to put it in the commercials)

This is also something that has me worried. If it'd be hard enough for them to compress a whole season into 6 episodes, compressing the mytharc further into half the miniseries and having the other half be MotW will be rough. I honestly wish they'd focused more on the mytharc than throwing in MotW stuff, they have a LOT of explaining to do [sp]for the aliens missing the 2012 colonization deadline[/sp] (spoiled because maybe someone might just be starting the series idk) and they should know better after IWtB back in 08 not to bring it back and dive directly into MotW after a long hiatus rather than take every opportunity to update us on the mytharc
I didn't dislike it, but it was busy and compressed as fuck and felt like a builder episode, except without any of the tension until [sp] blew up the arv[/sp].
It felt so terrible and 90's
I loved it
Pacing would be better if it was a sort of 12 episode season, which is becoming standard for some shows, but shorter than a full season.

having just 10 would had been nice, 4 myth 6 monster of week or vice versa.
Holy shit [sp] the diseased kids in tonight's episode [/sp]
This is really taking off now, I'm excited.
just watched the first ep
so shitty
just joyless, totally humorless, not like the x-files at all. there are moments where it's actually sermonizing (in this mediocre, convictionless, aimlessly disgruntled way) about the state of the real world in the company of this fantastical and really badly paced plot. i found the whole political dimension to the characters poisoned the atmosphere of the show and made them all incredibly unlikable. the acting was so fuckin stiff too, holy shit.

Watch the second one.
k i'll give it a shot

You won't regret it, it's X Files as fuck and miles above the first episode which was just to set everything up. I'm REALLY excited for whats to come.
I feel like the first episode really just had to get everyone up to speed to some of the lore of the show. Even if it meant [sp]throwing away the aliens in favor of a man-made conspiracy[/sp]. You can't just catch up a different generation of people on 9 seasons of lore.
more skeptical than season 1 scully rn
Its happening! [sp]Monster of the week coming up too it looks like, I didn't think they would do one.[/sp]
Yeah finally watched Bad Blood... oh my god I can see why it's popular among a lot of you.
Also Owen Wilson's brother as the sheriff was really good.
A few months back, I bought a couple episodes on iTunes. That episode, and the Bryan Cranston one. They pretty well sum up the show for me.
I can't wait till next weeks episode because I want to know why there's a guy dressed up as Carl Kolchak in it.
WAYAAAAAAYAYAYAAAY better episode.
more skeptical than season 1 scully rn
I don't know if that's possible. I'm not sure she was very far past "I think, therefore I am" at that point.
I can't wait till next weeks episode because I want to know why there's a guy dressed up as Carl Kolchak in it.
yeah I noticed that too
loved Kolchak: The Night Stalker
I was gonna say maybe this won't be filled with dumb product placement like almost every show nowadays because of how in the first episode, someone used a tablet and it didn't put its brand front and center on the screen, but that Ford scene in the second episode happened.

So. Remember that giant Coca Cola screen from Blade Runner? Everyone does this, it's overdoing it thats the problem
Jurassic World was blatantly obvious about pushing it with Mercedes. There's one scene centered entirely around the hood ornament at one point, and they even did the same thing again a few scenes later. Now thats kind off putting.
what, you don't use Uber?
That one actually at least felt like something someone would say. The Ford thing was just a completely pointless scene that was there purely to show that they're driving a Ford and that their car has a camera thing that prevents them from hitting that guy.
