It's actually a very well written show, and the the energy of the town itself is a brilliant expression of what I imagine western Oregon is like.
I've watched the entire first season in my bullshit time and enjoyed it very much.
It has references to LSD and firearms...not something I'd expect from Disney at all.

This show seems actively out to fix all the problems I had with season 1 and it makes me smile.
[sp]Paranormal shit is now the plot, not just a side tool for character drama.
Actively killed Dipper x Wendy and confirmed in an interview to be dead.
Wendy and Grunkle Stan being in on the Paranormal happenings rather than just being side characters too ignorant of what's going on to get involved.
A good amount of running plot to each episode without overwhelming the day to day happenings.[/sp]

Paranormal doesn't necessarily mean monster hunt. There's a good deal of episodes that I liked how they handled the paranormal events, and season 2 is so far 2 for 2 while not sacrificing character drama at all. Problem is there were also a lot like Fight Fighters and The Deep End where they're just like "Oh, that's unusual", and how they're treated as nothing kinda kills the value of it. There's also a good deal of episodes where the paranormal element could be removed completely and hardly anything would have changed.
I agree you can't just make the plot "Gravity falls twins meet big foot", but I often felt the balance of season 1 went way more towards just normal pre teen drama with a paranormal side plot than actually using the concept of their show.
Ooof those new episodes were so good. Definitely living up to all the hype.

I just got into this show a few days ago, and goddamn if this isn't one of the best cartoons I've ever seen. I wish more shows would go into such depth with its secret and easter eggs as this show does, it's a good way to keep you entertained even when you aren't actually watching the show.
