Is that a fucking W40k ship
All I can say it is not a bird, not a plane and not superman.
Finally started playing Alien: Isolation since i bought it on the Steam Sale. The aesthetic of Alien still holds up really well despite having outdated 70's tech.
From the trailer Covenant comes off as even worse than Prometheus, if that's even possible.
Yeah, I have very low hopes for Covenant, because it just looks like a generic Prometheus sequel. At least it'll actually have the goddamn Alien this time.
Also, anyone who enjoys the Alien movies but hasn't played Alien: Isolation absolutely needs to get it while it's still on sale. It's both a great game and a great entry in the franchise.

Outdated 70s future tech will never not be cool as shit.
See, I didn't like prometheus's aliens.
Black gunk makes you evil zombie/pregnant. even a drop will fuck you up.
Eh, the alien life cycle was complex enough without saying the gunk, penis snakes, and birth squids are the same stuff, but way better. Because if just a little gunk will fuck you up, what's the horror in the rape monsters with acid blood?
Covenant seems to want to use the black gunk again. I don't care for it.
Also. I really liked AVP 2 and AVP gold. The movies were trash, yes, and I haven't read the comics, but it's a shame that people want to move away from those games /predators in the aliens universe. They were great.
Speaking of Isolation, I'd love to buy it on the chrimbo sale but feel like it's gonna get boring after the first few hours. Looks great tho
Because it does. You should get it for the experience up to chapter 11, however as it while it is a bit flimsy and railridden as a story vehicle, it is a fine piece of set design and adherence to familiar and established motif.
After 11 everything is a literal rehashed fetch quest and a falling moan simulator ala tomb raider where the answer to every player facilitation technique is "double all the stuff that kills you", which is the rote epitome of shit game design.
What, no love for Aliens fighting Predators? I remember before AvP2 the directors were active in various fan forums, saying all the right things. When does that even happen? And then that movie is what we got. Nevermind, forget I said anything.
They were not saying any of the right things, from the start. One of the brothers had no fucking clue what the name Ash meant, how you're supposed to get quality out of that is a mystery even Fox refuses to answer on camera. Pretty telling both went straight back to VFX work and haven't gotten helm work since.

Oh yeah, for the most part, AvP videogames is where it's at. AvP2 in particular was great, love how the three stories all mesh together to tell one larger story.
Going to start catching up on the alien canon as my favorite artist is doing a comic based on the series.
I assume I just need to watch the movies? Any extra comics or books?

The comics are generally completely absolutely fucking awful aside from art by Art Adams, Jim Woodring, Denis Beauvais and John Bolton.
I think new Alien looks sick AF. But I do say though, what exactly is new about this movie, like Prometheus, kinda the same. Either way, hype.
I don't like chemical weapons tho. They're not horrifying, they just kill you. And they make the alien look a lot less lethal if people die from spores or some shit.
One thing I've always loved about Alien is the use of body horror, so if spores lead to infections and horrifying backbursting then I'm down with that.
Has anyone read the book Alien: Sea Of Sorrows? I think it was great and I'm really hoping it will turn into a movie at one point.
I kind of want to check those new books out, since they seem interesting enough.

Awesome marketing, this is way better shit than that previous trailer. Looks like some of the characters will be likeable. None of this will be in the film either.
That " The food ain't that bad" callback was waaaaaay too on the nose though.
I love this franchise so much I use these gaudy as fuck keycaps

Cringed hard at the choking, Ridley's trying way too hard to wink at the audience.

So the deal is that the last supper scene won't be in the action movie, right? Kinda weird, since some of it (the speech) is also in the new trailer.

i hope not
the liking the food comment and the choking was really horrible, way too self referential.
i hope covenant isn't just a remake of Alien
It definitely looks better than what the first trailer offered.
I hope that there is more to it than Landing -> finding alien stuff -> get killed while escaping.
I don't mind at all that they're using current day guns. Not all technology gets better all the time. Firearms have been optimized over the past 50 years, but they haven't really changed in appearance all to significantly. They've messed around with stuff like eletronic triggers, laser weapons and whatnot, but standard, hammer-fire guns have won out.
The more 'futuristic' the base gun looks, the less practical/ergonomic it looks too.
Now tacticool stuff'll change, but that'll be it for firearms, really.
The weapons in aliens look cool, don't get me wrong, they just don't look practical. I get why they might do that: this is the future where space capitalism has gone too far and people'll tack all kinds of shit onto stuff if it lets them market it as new and improved, but it's not kosher.
they released a small snippet that ties Prometheus to the upcoming Alien: Covenant, for Alien day today.

Just went to a single time screening of the first Alien movie in a brand new theater.
Shit was dope
Here a leaked 10 minutes alien covenant preview. It's watchable.

Mondo will be releasing a vinyl soundtrack for Alien but the artwork on the cover is the Aliens version of the xenomorph.

Don't worry I already sent them a nerdy message about it.
I am trying to not watch any more stuff for this film, I feel like they've already gave a lot away. Apparently the review embargo is lifted today so I think it's time to avoid any discussion of this to avoid spoilers!
Reviews so far claim the film's decent, but not amazing. If they are right, I'll take it. We haven't had a watchable Alien since Alien 3, unless you count Prometheus (imo).
I've never hated any of the Alien films (AvP doesn't count), but the direction it went in isn't my cup of tea.
James Cameron did awesome worldbuilding in Aliens, and Ridley Scott seems to be a bit annoyed with that, going by the way Prometheus and Covenant seem to be going.
