was tonight's episode the season finale?
Aw man, aw jeez, that was one hell of an episode. Can't believe I have to wait a whole week for what happens next! [sp]They really thinned the ranks with this one! RIP Wrench and Number. Bye, Glenn. I really hope Molly pulls through, man oh man.[/sp] [sp]Lester was really up to some shenanigans. It's interesting how he's acting out his jealousy (or is it more resentment) of his brother, how he sees his brother as a representation of everything he didn't - couldn't - achieve. He's definitely slipping from 'resourceful' to 'devious' though, I wonder how long he'll be able to keep up before it all tumbles down.[/sp]
Anyone spot the Los Cronocrimenes (Timecrimes) reference in the last episode, with the bandages? Or maybe I just like Los Cronocrimenes too much... Man that was like a season final if they were going to do another season with the same cast and story. How this is going to last another 4 whole episodes I have no idea. Show fucking owns
Anyone spot the Los Cronocrimenes (Timecrimes) reference in the last episode, with the bandages? Or maybe I just like Los Cronocrimenes too much...
I assume it's just a generic bandaged face (although I admittedly haven't seen Timecrimes yet). Heck, I was reminded of the Unknown Superman but I'm sure that wasn't their intention. It says at the beginning of the show that it's based on actual events which occurred in 2006. I dont understand how that can be true if its based on a film which came out in 1996.

And it's probably just there because they had something similar in the movie, even though that wasn't based on real events either.

The "true story" claim is based on a similar claim from the original film.
Although the film plot is completely fictional, the Coen brothers claim that many of the events that take place in the movie were actually based on true events from other cases that they threw together to make one story. Joel Coen noted:
"We weren't interested in that kind of fidelity. The basic events are the same as in the real case, but the characterizations are fully imagined ... If an audience believes that something's based on a real event, it gives you permission to do things they might otherwise not accept."
The Coens claim the actual murders took place, but not in Minnesota. The main reason for the film's setting is the Coens were born and raised in St. Louis Park, a suburb of Minneapolis. On Fargo's special edition DVD's trivia track, it is revealed that the main case that inspired the movie is the infamous 1986 murder of Helle Crafts from Connecticut at the hands of her husband, Richard, who disposed of her body through a wood chipper. The end credits bear the standard "all persons fictitious" disclaimer for a work of fiction.
That episode was intense. When Lester saw the [sp]picture of his brother and his family, I thought he was going to have a change of heart...then I laughed as he made it worse[/sp] :v:
I think the scariest part of all this is that Lester genuinely believes that he's completely innocent [editline]22nd May 2014[/editline] At the beginning of the show I wanted to throttle Gus and hug Lester. The roles have changed.

No, he'll continue to play the role of a scared, small man. It's the perfect cover.
So much happened this episode, it was pretty damn good. also did anyone notice [sp] that the parking garage as same one as in the movie[/sp]
[sp]No it isn't. The parking garage in the movie is in the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, a couple hours south of everything else that's going on. The parking garage doesn't look like that. Source: I live in Minneapolis. None of the stuff in the show is filmed on location, whereas the film is shot exclusively on location. Duluth doesn't look like that, its skyline isn't as extravagant.[/sp] Also that episode was super upsetting.
Also that episode was super upsetting.
Why? Also, they should have continued playing that music when [sp]Malvo met the guys from Fargo and the shooting happened. Would have been better if it played out the majority of that scene. Anyone have a recording of the full track somewhere?[/sp]

[sp]I feel like they built up Molly too much to just kill her. Sure that gives it more shock value but shock value isn't usually worth cutting an arc short like that with no real closure[/sp]
At the beginning of the show I wanted to throttle Gus and hug Lester. The roles have changed.
Even from the first episode Lester's been a fascinating character. They build him up as very sympathetic (small, shy, underachieving, henpecked, Martin Freeman) then shockingly torpedo that goodwill as he brutally murders his wife. Sure, he's still not totally terrible (you can tell he's incredibly conflicted as he calls Malvo and goes through her things, plus some folks probably think "oh, she deserved it"), but his actions are moving further from just trying to cover his tracks to more active malevolence. I remember some review or comment that pointed out Malvo's tapes as sort of 'trophies' - records of his Greatest Hits of temptation and manipulation. Lester's neuroses and psychoses were teased out by that initial "revenge" on Hess and have just moved onwards and upwards since.

Plus the whole thing about him "changing his mind" at the gate ripped straight from the movie[/sp]
[sp]Plus the whole thing about him "changing his mind" at the gate ripped straight from the movie[/sp]
The exact line from the movie was right on the tip of his tongue.
Would have been funny if the window had bullet proof glass now
This must be the first TV show that has no likeable characters whatsoever. Not saying the show's bad or anything, but I'm having trouble relating or feeling sympathetic towards the cast.

I agree with you on most of the other characters though; even the "good guys" like Molly and Grimley are very unlikeable and at the moment I'm rooting more for Lester and Malvo as opposed to the cops. Both of them are terrible police officers that seem to think that ignoring police procedure, like arresting someone without cause or a warrant and breaking and entering a crime scene/home, will somehow be acceptable if the ends are justified.
Both of them are terrible police officers that seem to think that ignoring police procedure, like arresting someone without cause or a warrant and breaking and entering a crime scene/home, will somehow be acceptable if the ends are justified.
Just like every cop in fiction ever

Aside from maybe Sheriff-At-Law Saul Goodman, who, now that I think of it, doesn't get much screentime.
You don't at all feel sympathetic for [sp] Dimitri [/sp] who is completely innocent from all fronts and largely mistreated?
No, [sp]I hated him, to be honest.[/sp]
I agree with you on most of the other characters though; even the "good guys" like Molly and Grimley are very unlikeable and at the moment I'm rooting more for Lester and Malvo as opposed to the cops.
Molly and Grimley give the impression of stereotypical police dummies. And I don't like Lester or Malvo either because of how unscrupulous they are. Also, anyone hates the "Aw, jeez" thing? I know it was in the movie, but I just find it really annoying. Especially when Lester says it.

It's highly-rated and I'm giving it a chance. It took a while for me to get into Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead or Breaking Bad as well.
