A whole year?? Wow, I had no idea. Why was that? Had to pitch a completed pilot to get a season approval or something?
ya thats what pilot is for, generate a good idea of what the show will be for the studio execs the pilot was filmed august 2016 while the production for season 1 proper started in march of 2017

I'm used to the more traditional mini movie method, like how the re-imagined BSG got it's start - create a one off pilot, air it, greenlight (or not) a season based on viewer response. Seems bizarre to have him create a whole complete pilot episode and then give approvals in such a way that it's a whole year before he can film more. To be fair, I could not tell at all so there was some pretty fantastic consistency despite the delay.
Best episode yet I'd say, really funny, tons of drama, a great ass space battle, some good crew stuff in the intro, really interesting idea with the Krill, very fascinating, lot of good world building, which is something I really enjoy and a TON of great costumes and makeup work, talking about the Krill, [sp]they seem like an interesting militaristic religious society, there religion is rather interesting too in that they think they have a divine right over the universe, that they were created by their god and only they have souls, which means they are the chosen people and all live is subservient to them, which is why they have no qualms with killing other races because they don't believe other races even have souls and are pretty much empty vessels, really interesting stuff[/sp] The [sp]situation they got in was honestly fantastically done too, like, they realized they had to stop the Krill ship from destroying the colony, so they have to destroy the ship before it completes it's mission, then it throws you a curve ball with the Krill children on board, man, and the ending was honestly the best part too, those last words from the Krill female were legitimately chilling and heartbreaking, because Mercer was trying to do the best he could in that situation but it was a situation where he could only really do what he could, there wasn't an entirely "good guy" option here, that entire situation was damned if you do and damned if you don't and it was fantastic to see the morale quandaries play out.[/sp] Like seriously man, the writing in this episode get's top marks from me. Also, new union ship! [t]https://i.imgur.com/t8AG99T.png[/t] It's called a Leviathan class Heavy Cruiser apparently.
DAMNIT THAT'S A NEW LEG!
It's interesting how some of the plots are, "Let's see just how fucked up a no-win situation we can get everyone into," and then they kind of fiddle around until they come to a conclusion, though they're not sure if it was the best one. Y'know, thinking about it, that may be the Star Trek-style in a nutshell.
Decided to start watching this. So far, pleasantly surprised.
Ah. I get more of a good DS9 feel than anything. Funny how discovery is kinda....meh.
I liked the last episode for the most part, except for [sp] Ed and Malloy's banter during the infiltration. I know the two aren't supposed to be good at that, but it's like they weren't even trying to fit in. They just keep beating you over the head with constant bad jokes and out of place pop culture references, it was actually kinda hard to watch. But of course the Krill accept them into their midst without even paying any attention to all the suspicious behavior. [/sp]
Orville is like having sex with your husband, you might like things he does to you but he can't climax and finish without a donkey punch. You really do love your husband in other sack qualities, but when he punches you in the back of the head to cum in your ass it's a mixed experience in bed.
Yeah that about sums it up, they do everything so right, but there's always the inevitable donkey punch coming up that kinda ruins the mood.
The latest episode was great. Sans some of the dialogue, but [sp]that ending makes up for it.[/sp]
The latest episode was great. Sans some of the dialogue, but [sp]that ending makes up for it.[/sp]
All hail the mighty Hertz, bringer of the [sp] Day[/sp]!
I think the comedy finally managed to work [sp]EAT THIS GUN[/sp]
eh Ed could have been a little less obvious but thats part of the episode's charm. the one thing i did think was weird was how malloy was suddenly a super soldier bashing krill out of the way and dodging blaster fire. the action sequences just don't quite mesh with the guy we have seen, I guess chalk it up to plot element since you can't murder kids on broadcast TV [editline]17th October 2017[/editline] the krill are supposed to be stronger than people right?
the one thing i did think was weird was how malloy was suddenly a super soldier bashing krill out of the way and dodging blaster fire
I mean to be fair he was doing basic combat stuff at most, probably something the Union trains for.
the krill are supposed to be stronger than people right?
Not that we know of no, you sure you aren't mixing that up with Klingons?
So apparently the IMDB page for The Orville has stated that Patrick Stewart and Scott Bakula are both going to be on The Orville at some point.
I hope Patrick Stewart says "we're not here to have fun!" as a reference to him saying that on the set of TNG.
Not that we know of no, you sure you aren't mixing that up with Klingons?
well let me put it this way, when it comes to malloy vs a krill, only the muscles on one of them are real.
well let me put it this way, when it comes to malloy vs a krill, only the muscles on one of them are real.
I mean, that's just a star trekky thing, people who are very clearly out of shape or clearly don't have the body weight to take on an opponent can kick just as much ass as a Klingon. [editline]edit[/editline] Though, that's not to say Seth is out of shape, he's in ok shape.
I guess I've come to associate the Krill with the Cardassians. The Moclins immediately struck me as the Klingon-like race in the universe. How is any of what I typed even remotely funny wtf
I enjoying this so far, happily surprised it isn't 100% usual Seth MacF comedy, parts are still there, and they are the jokes that fall the flattest, hoping it does get a second season, I just finished episode 5.
Completely guessing here, but Seth could be replacing all the really bad jokes with drama.
just speculation here but seth has been practically begging for family guy to end probably because it eats up so much of his time and energy, look he went and killed brian just to free up time for his movie, and just guessing here but he might actually be a great writer and have great writing staff and not push things out like he does on family guy because the show is something he is extremely passionate about and the production deadlines might not be as tight as animation where he has to have the scripts and VA done before animation which takes six to eight months and fox wants a family guy season every year
Just watched the first six episodes. Better than I expected. [editline]19th October 2017[/editline] Admittedly, there were some jokes that did fall flat, but overall an enjoyable experience.
The jokes are getting better as the show goes on too. The [sp]"Eat my gun" bit in 6 was great.[/sp] The [sp]practical joke[/sp] in 5 was pretty good too. I've got hope for the show, it's already miles ahead of TNG season 1.
can we all agree the domestic life of the moclins is halarious? the underacting, the tenderness, and the testosterone is just perfect mcfarlane writing for once clyden and bortus are the best married couple on TV. whats more the scene a couple episodes back (4 maybe) where they are getting up is like the perfect example of all this smart house stuff in the future "I want comfort food" "Ok heres rocky road" "yes i want rocky road." *zap* bowl of icecream "I want to be happy!" *tv turns on the sound of music* and bortus just stares and gives him the perfect look of disappointment
Yeah the Moclins are awesome, I prefer them over Klingons any day. Gotta love their goofy-ass looking jacked up bodies. It's great that they took an extra step and changed their physiology up a bit further than just going "we need another humanoid alien race, let's design a new face mask and call it a day". The combination of actual emotion hidden behind the deadpan delivery and ultra-masculine outward appearance also makes for some great situations. Every single moment they're on screen they're just a joy to watch. I have to say that alien design in general is top notch in this show. If only the human characters were were on the same level, they're by far the weakest link.
well... spoilers, it did.
Noice
Completely guessing here, but Seth could be replacing all the really bad jokes with drama.
That's entirely possible. Haven't been looking for a pattern.
Noice That's entirely possible. Haven't been looking for a pattern.
Ok i misread the news on this though, seth mcfarlane says its probably getting a second season and every indicator says so as well given his very long history with fox and how good the ratings have been in the last few weeks. its not a sure thing yet but it'd be a head scratching decision if they canceled a genuine hit which fox has been desperate for to fill the scifi niche
Wow... tonight's episode was pretty much A star trek episode. I mean, the premise is basically the same as the nazi planet episode of star trek, the crew travel to a weird parallel world to find a missing anthropologist, but the way that they carried things out was a weird blend of TOS and TNG and it worked fantastic. I don't know where the space comedy went but god would someone at paramount let mcfarlane make a star trek already.
